I don't like it. Don't care how much extra bonus was thrown in. It's a bad-looking contract that will be reviewed.

Jesus, honestly HA. What were ya thinking? I mean, you are big on the FOF boards so ya see all these discussions that happen on this stuff. What were ya thinking? While I really don't give a crap what contract the guy has ya can't just backload a contract that obvious and think Jeff won't see it. That fucker doesn't miss a thing. Man, I am really dumbfounded.Originally posted by jeff View PostI don't like it. Don't care how much extra bonus was thrown in. It's a bad-looking contract that will be reviewed.

Bah I wanted him bad too but not that bad. 12 mil was the limit for me...Originally posted by Argot View PostYeah...probably overpaid, but I had money to spend and I had a huge need for a pass rushing DE, especially with a shoddy secondary. But then again...who isn't overpaying in this market. If I had to do it over again...I would have probably put a better offer in for Herndon.
Is it just me, or did the Voodoo re-sign anyone. Alot of good free agents went to market now that I'm looking at it.

wow, i didn't think he'd take the offer. i nearly doubled his asking price for signing bonus, thus i didn't think the backloading was bad. also, i leave it to the player to tell me if he considers the contract to be backloaded. obviously it's not that backloaded or else i would've got the prompt. i made a $30+million guaranteed investment in a 9yr vet who will be a 14 yr vet if i'm lucky enough to keep him for the whole deal, considering Gilpin who retired as a 10 yr vet. no matter what happens Collela is getting $30million, which is more than what Caro or the other top QBs are getting. perhaps that's why he accepted.
i wasn't trying to cheat anything. i basically was taking the high yearly salary (which means nothing in football) and adding to his guaranteed bonus. i don't think there's any player who would rather have $12million per year (salary/bonus combined) with only a $18million bonus (which was what Collela was asking for) instead of geting $32million bonus and being paid $6million-8million per year. Rich Gannon signed a ridiculous backloaded deal with the Raiders, and no one for a second thought he was actually gonna be paid that kind of money.

It prompts you when you try to backload a contract?? I didn't know that.Originally posted by Hell Atlantic View Postwow, i didn't think he'd take the offer. i nearly doubled his asking price for signing bonus, thus i didn't think the backloading was bad. also, i leave it to the player to tell me if he considers the contract to be backloaded. obviously it's not that backloaded or else i would've got the prompt. i made a $30+million guaranteed investment in a 9yr vet who will be a 14 yr vet if i'm lucky enough to keep him for the whole deal, considering Gilpin who retired as a 10 yr vet. no matter what happens Collela is getting $30million, which is more than what Caro or the other top QBs are getting. perhaps that's why he accepted.

No offense man, but you put the 14mil at the end of the contract as a salary because you knew you would never have to pay it. He will either retire or if he is stubborn and hangs around, you will just renegociate the contract the year before to next to nothing because of his age.
BTW, Hamilton is making 16 mil this year and Colella is just as good or better then Hamilton so signing him to a 30 million dollar contract with 14 of it guaranteed you will never have to pay is a good deal for you. It's a brilliant move if Jeff lets ya get away with it.

The contract will need to be reworked in a more reasonable manner next season before FA Stage 4. If not, he'll be given the extension he's asking for at that time. Backloading of that nature (quadrupling, 5x, 6x, 7x one season to another - not counting from year 1 to year 2) is not acceptable. Future extensions like that will result in loss of draft picks or other more serious penalties. I'll look to add further language in regards to this to the constitution. I hate to do that, but common sense has obviously failed."Larry Deasoooooooooooooooooon" -- Phil Jenkins

SHIT!!! I was gonna try that. Hamilton will need a new contract next year and I was looking for some cap relief. i thought we worked on a rule taht you couldnt go more than 2x the preceding year unless talking y1 to y2. so
Y1 - 1Mil
Y2 - 4 Mil
Y3 - 8 Mil
Y4 -16 MIl
was okay but
y1 1 Mil
y2 4 mil
y3 5 mil
y4 19 mil
was not. Same total dollars but version 2 was the cheat. If we arent using the 2x preceding year there is some league that is doing so and its a decent rule approachGM Wichita Outlaws

It might have been discussed briefly here, but a rule was never added. It's a situation where I've tried to get by with the least amount of "hard" contract rules. I don't think anyone really wants to have to have them and check every contract they make, but there probably needs to be some I guess."Larry Deasoooooooooooooooooon" -- Phil Jenkins

i think the rule we have is suffice. obviously, any contract deemed "odd" has the opportunity to be reviewed.

whether hard rule or not i think the doubler rule helps you avoid complicated rules to look at...its also easy as a GM when making the offer...you might try this as a safe harbor...if you follow the double rule you wont ever be in trouble...if you push the envelope then you are subject to my every whim as supreme ruler and will get screwed in the end...this is easy enough to follow and easier to police for you...Originally posted by jeff View PostIt might have been discussed briefly here, but a rule was never added. $32 million of it was guaranteed. i would've offered more but it was either the game or my owner that said $34million was the most i could give as a bonus. i offered $32million bonus so i had a little wiggle room for renogotiating.Originally posted by Jave View PostIt prompts you when you try to backload a contract?? $32million is quite a lot in guaranteed money. but whatever, i'll go back to the drawing board.
