I don't mind the price paid for him, unless he ends up as a backup which is what he would be right now for Los Angeles if they don't trade someone.

I'm guessing he is moving him to RG. That will make a very lethal offensive line. Looking at his runningbacks, he plans to throw the ball alot this year and wants the protection. Good pickup. Expensive, but good.Originally posted by Cringer View PostI don't mind the price paid for him, unless he ends up as a backup which is what he would be right now for Los Angeles if they don't trade someone.

The thing with FA this season is lack of talent + Lots of cap space = huge contracts for good but not great players.IFL Champions-- 2016

I have two choices, sign nobody and waste free cap room for no reason, or use it in a short term deal that I can tweak next year. Hell, he can ride the bench all year and sign a cheap 4 year deal next season and people will call him a bargain. Now, I'm planning on doing the RG scenario Jave outlined above, but to me wasted cap availability means I'm not trying to improve my team. (Assuming I'm not digging myself into some crazy hole of course)

What game is it that as part of the negotiation stage, you have to declare what role the player will have on your team, and then if you don't use that player in the agreed way they cause conflict.
While there is no "sour grapes" here, I find it in some way disappointing that one of the lead free agents of this year would sign "to ride the pine." : (
I really hope that in moving him to guard his ratings don't take a hit. That would be a shame...and against the IFL Constitution. : )
I agree about the cap space, I'm about to have a "TON" of wasted cap space this year, but will try a few negotiations to pay more money up front for some of my players. I had thought about signing a whole bunch of FA's in their 10-13 year range...like Graybill and Chaplin, but not sure what that would do to my cohesion.
Interesting how everyone seems to have cap space this year as opposed to other years.MIAMI VICE - 2074

I have to agree with ya. I have decent, not great, but decent cap room, and have lost out on the 2 real free agents I was after so far. I am going to start resigning my current crap players just to fill out the roster and start looking at the draft because, like I said a while ago, this is the worst free agency period I have seen in awhile and I see a ton of money being left on the table this year.Originally posted by tarcone View PostThe thing with FA this season is lack of talent + Lots of cap space = huge contracts for good but not great players.
Edit: WTF when you offer an average player at best a 28 million dollar contract and get turned down!! Thats super frustrating.....Last edited by Jave; 11-26-2007, 05:06 PM.

I understand what you saying Jave but Los Angeles gave him 9.2 million guaranteed for only two years. After two years he can possibly become a F/A again and get another signing bonus. If your Herndon you take the deal that Los Angeles offered. Then hit free agency after two years and cash in again. Ohh don't get me wrong. I understand the concept, but I am not sold on how the game considers money over everything. It seems like despite markets or winning % or the chance to start, it just makes every single free agent sign with the team who offers the most money and the least amount of years.Originally posted by BOSS View PostI understand what you saying Jave but Los Angeles gave him 9.2 million guaranteed for only two years. Remember a couple years back...I can't remember the player but he was one of the best free agents we have seen in years and he got a dozen insane offers. Someone, don't remember who, offered him a 10 million dollar, one year contract and he signed.
I understand money talks, but not in all cases. Players consider a lot more then money when they switch teams. I am just not sold on the way that the game handles free agents. It creates a blueprint that encourages 1 or 2 years deals. Makes it a bit unrealistic.

Let me back up my theory. Randy Moss. It took a monster contract to get Moss to sign with Oakland. We suck right? But he didn't sign no 2 year 12 million dollar deal. Al Davis would tell him to go fuck himself. He signed a 5 year deal or something like that. I am not checking the exact numbers so bear with me.
Now this year, Moss told Kiffin that he would not, under any circumstances, play for Oakland again. He demanded a trade. But in order to trade him, we needed him to restructure his contract. There was only ONE team in the NFL he would restructure his contract for. There was only ONE team he wanted to play for, no exceptions. New England. So he actually took a pay cut to play for N.E.
Thats realistic!! Thats what a player in the NFL would do. If that same situation was played out in the FOF universe, He would have just signed with whoever, wherever, who paid him the most amount of money for the least amount of years. UNREALISTIC!!

I think it depends...young players like Herndon, do tend to go for shorter contracts. Its the 8 and 9 year old vets that are looking for that 4 year deal...just in case they're age starts to show. Of course if you don't give them bonus money...it doesn't really matter.MIAMI VICE - 2074

Hello, Roderick Peabody! I can't really explain it, but I take my backup QB's serious. Even if Caro never gets hurt (which seems likely) I still like having competence on the sidelines.
Him being from Moorhead only helped my desire for his services:
