  • MAY 17TH: Marlins (13-28) At Cardinals (16-26)
Chuck Smith went 8.2 innings but Bedrosian couldn't close the door on the Cardinals as they squeaked by.
Final Score: Cardinals 2 Marlins 1

    MAY 18TH: Marlins (13-29) At Cardinals (17-26)
Nice win as Bryn Smith went 6 innings giving up just 2 runs and Karros and Castilla homered in victory.
Final Score: Marlins 6 Cardinals 2

    MAY 19TH: Marlins (14-29) At Cardinals (17-27)
Tanana labored but it was tied in the 7th before Sager had a melt down and the Cards scored 4 times to open it up.
Final Score: Cardinals 9 Marlins 5

    MAY 20TH: Marlins (14-30) At Cardinals (18-27)
Saunders struggled, Canadleria didn't help. Goodwin had 3 hits but they just had too much offense.
Final Score: Cardinals 8 Marlins 5

MAY 20TH: ROSTER & TRANSACTION NEWS
Terry Shunpert is ready to come off of the DL but I wanna make a bigger splash.

    Trade:

    RP Wilson Heredia	22	61/76	$5K/ARB97

To The California Angels in exchange for
    -----------------
    C Ron Tingley 34	71/71	$140K/1YRS
    RF Chad Curtis 25	76/77	$113K/ARB95
Curtis has been in AAA the past 2 seasons having no room on the major league Angels roster for him. He's a slap hitter with not alot of pop but he does have speed and excells at 3 outfield positions. Tingley is just along for the ride and will likely go down to AAA.

On the Angels part they get a decent relief prospect and a solid vet in Gaetti. Of course we also dump some more salary. All in all I think it's a pretty good trade all around.

With this move we once again adjust our lineups. I swear i'm gonna try and stick to these.

    • MAY 21ST: Marlins (14-31) Vs Braves (30-15)
Seminara gave up 4 first inning runs and barely made it thru 5 innings, giving up 5 runs. Down 5-2 we rallied to take the lead in the 6th thanks in part to a 2 run double from Vanderwall. Heredia, Hillman and Bedrosian closed it out for a nice 1 run win. Vanderwall had a homer and 4 RBI and Goodwin had 3 hits.
Final Score: Marlins 6 Braves 5

      MAY 22ND: Marlins (15-31) Vs Braves (30-16)
Chuck Smith went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs and we got to Maddux some, but not enough. Karros went 4-4 with a HR and 3 RBI in the loss.
Final Score: Braves 5 Marlins 3

      MAY 23RD: Marlins (15-32) Vs Braves (31-16)
Bryn Smith threw a complete game, 3 hit shutout. Karros and Nilsson each homered and Guillen added 2 RBI as we cruised to a win and a series victory.
Final Score: Marlins 6 Braves 0

      • MAY 25th: Marlins (16-32) Vs Expos (25-22)
Tanana gave up 4 2nd inning runs but settled down after that, we slowly came back to grab the lead but Bedrosian allowed them to tie it in the ninth. Kurt Stilwell won it for us with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. Woo hoo!
Larkin had 4 hits. Karros & Curtis had 2 RBI each.
Final Score: Marlins 6 Expos 5 (11 Innings)

        MAY 26th: Marlins (17-32) Vs Expos (25-23)
A six run 4th highlited by a Castilla 3 run homer and a 2 run Curtis single put us up 7-2. Saunders however would go 6 and give up 6. Our bullpen would battle and barely hold on as we added a couple of runs, one of which came off a Curtis homer.
Final Score: Marlins 9 Expos 8

        MAY 27th: Marlins (18-32) Vs Expos (25-24)
Seminara went 6+ and did a fine job, the bullpen did decent enough and we got 3 RBI from Vanderwall, including a homer, and 2 RBI each from Karros and Castilla as we pull out the sweep.
Final Score: Marlins 8 Expos 5

        MAY 27th: INURY NEWS
Chuck Smith has a blister and will have to be pushed back a couple of days. Bryn Smith and Tanana will each move up a day.

        • MAY 28th: Marlins (19-32) At Padres (27-26)
Bryn Smith went 6 innings, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs. And outside of a Vanderwall homer, Kevin Tapani pretty much silenced us as they take the first game of the series.
Final Score: Padres 5 Marlins 2

          MAY 29th: Marlins (19-33) At Padres (28-26)
Tanana went 7 innings allowing 3 runs. The game went to the 15th inning as both our bullpens were just tremendous. A Shumpert RBI single in the top of the 15th gave us the lead and Manzanillo closed it out. What an exilerating win.
Final Score: Marlins 4 Padres 3 (15 Innings)

          MAY 30th: Marlins (20-33) At Padres (28-27)
Chuck Smith dueled Bruce Hurst in a scoreless battle until the 6th when he gave up 2 runs. We would tie it but our pen gave up 3 runs in the 8th, they were clearly just exhausted. Karros hit a homer. Tough loss.
Final Score: Padres 5 Marlins 3

          MAY 30th: INURY NEWS
AJ Sager broke his ankle, he's headed to the DL for awhile. We bring up Armando Reynoso to go into the pen until Seanez is ready to be activated in a couple of days.

          MAY 31ST: Marlins (20-34) At Padres (29-27)
Saunders threw 6 shutout innings. Castilla had a 3 run homer, Vanderwall had 3 hits including a homer and Cora had 3 hits. Reynoso pitched the final 3 innings of a blowout to rest our pen. I'm good with this series split.

Goodwin continues to be effective and while i'd like to see a better average from Nilsson and Castilla I believe they'll both raise their averages, i'm contently pleased with the power they've shown, same goes for Vanderwall.
I really for the first time like our lineup top to bottom. The additions of Karros and Curtis really give us solid young players that help stretch both the order and our bench. The only drawback is what they'll ask when it comes time to pay.

Seminara allowed 3 runs in 6 innings but our offense struggled against lefty Steve Cooke and the Pirates prevailed in a tight series opener.

              JUNE 2ND: Marlins (21-35) At Pirates (25-33)
Bryn Smith pitched strong into the 8th inning but he left a baserunner and our pen couldn't keep them at bay. Our offense was pretty silent as they escaped with another close win. Dissapointing.
Final Score: Pirates 4 Marlins 2

              JUNE 3RD: Marlins (21-36) At Pirates (26-33)
We scored 3 early runs off of Kris Benson and Tanana pitched shutout ball into the 8th when the Pirates finaly struck. Down 3-2 with 1st and 3rd and 1 out Hillman got Andy Van Slyke to fly out to Center and then nailed Colburn trying to tag up from 3rd to preserve the lead. Eric Hillman would then proceed to blow it in the ninth, allowing 2 runs and another wasted brilliant start from one of our starters. FUCK NUTS!!

              JUNE 4TH: ROSTER NEWS
We thought Hillman could be the lefty out of the pen to replace Cook. His 6.12 ERA says otherwise and he's headed to AAA.
Lefty reliever Jeff Ballard gets the callup to take his place.
We are also promoting SP prospect Cory Lidle to AA.

We pushed a run across in the first on a double play against Dwight Gooden and Chuck Smith made it stand up. Smith went 8.1 IP and Bedrosian closed it out as despite only getting 4 hits we finaly made a brilliant start stand up. Bravo.

Good news brings bad news as Bryn Smith has elbow tendinitis and needs to be shut down for a few weeks. He's off to the DL.
Armando Reynoso takes his rotation spot and Eric Hillman, having no other viable options, gets recalled.

                JUNE 6TH: Marlins (22-37) Vs Mets (42-16)
Welp, we led 3-0 going to the 9th when Bedrosian and Hillman had another epic collapse. The Mets scored 6 times wasting 7 shutout innings from Saunders. Castilla had a 2 run homer.

                JUNE 7TH: Marlins (22-38) Vs Mets (43-16)
Seminara went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs but Hillman shone today, pitching 4 innings of scoreless relief and a 2 run Vanderwall double in the 8th put us ahead for good as we came back to take 2 of 3 from the Mets. Nice.
Final Score: Marlins 3 Mets 2

Fairly slim pickings from areas of need, even with the 5th overall pick. Glaus gives us a solid 3B prospect which we don't have, and Davis was too good to pass up in the 2nd round. Gagne feels like he'll be ready in a few seasons time, as does Hairston. Cogan was sort of a best of whats left pick.

Tanana gave up 5 runs in 5 innings but our bullpen was awesome in shutting them down after that. Shumpert & Vanderwall each had 2 RBI and Nilson homered as we won a close slugfest.

Rudy Seanez has a rotator cuff issue and will miss at least a month as he needs to shut down completely.
LH reliever Dale Polley has been called up. Man we need some of our pitchers back, and pronto.

                        JUNE 16TH: Marlins (26-42) At Giants (38-29)
Chuck Smith gave up 3 runs over 6 innings and left tied but Alberos & Polley, two guys who shouldn't be in the majors, got lit up in the 7th and the Giants rolled to victory. Goodwin and Karros each had 2 hits.

                        JUNE 16TH: INJURY NEWS
More great news. Eric Hillman has a strained forearm and will miss a week. Ballard will get his start and we arn't gonna make any roster moves because we're out of arms except for prospects whom I aint using.

                        JUNE 17TH: Marlins (26-43) At Giants (39-29)
The good news is that Tony Saunders went all the way, giving up just 2 runs on 3 hits. The bad news is that we made Trevor Wilson look like Cy Young as we only got 3 hits and wasted a brilliant start from Saunders.

Ballard gave up 3 runs in the first inning but settled down after that to go a decent 5+ innings. We came from 3 down to go ahead in the middle innings thanks in part to a Vanderwall home run as we finaly got to Bob Tewksbury. God bless our pen though they just couldn't hold it, allowing 2 late Cardinal runs and that's that.

Welp, Reynoso did go 8 innings in giving up 5 runs. Unfortunately for us we were no hit by Donovan Osborne thru 6 innings and only mustered 3 hits in being shutout. Our fans must love us.

Tanana went just 5 innings, giving up 2 runs. We trailed 3-1 in the 7th when Eric Karros hit a pinch hit 3 run double and we scored 4 in total off of Rheal Cormea to go ahead. Our pen scuffled but Bedrosian worked the ninth perfectly and we hold on for a win heading into an off day.

We were able to get to Pete Harnisch early to build a lead but Chuck Smith threw a ton of pitches and in the 6th needed to be relieve, at which point Polley gave up, with the help of a Cora error, 3 runs, 2 charged to Smith and it was tied 4-4. A Vanderwall single in the bottom of the 6th gave us the lead which we held until the 9th when Bedrosian gave up a 3 run homer to Caminiti and that was all she wrote. A fuggin gut wrenching loss. Vanderwall went 3-3 with a homer and 2 RBI.

Reynoso & Ballard will move back into the bullpen from the rotation. Hopefully we can put a run together with our original 5 starters all healthy now and our bullpen a little more talented.

Saunders only went 4 innings, giving up 4 runs. Reynoso was solid out of the pen, Ballard was not. Curtis had 3 hits including a homer but they drubbed us behind Shane Reynolds and a couple of relievers.

Bryn Smith returned and threw 8 great innings. Our offense finaly sorta woke up and we salvaged the final game of the series. Castilla had a homer and Curtis and Karros each added an RBI.

Well then. Saunders threw 7 innings of 3 run ball and Manzanillo and Sager each threw scoreless innings but we still trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. We got a couple of timely hits and then Larry Anderson walked in the tying run with the bases loaded and followed that up with a wild pitch allowing Castilla to score the winning run as karma comes out on our side for once. Phew.

Bryn Smith went 6+ but I left him in too long with the score tied, and then I let Ballard face Wes Chamberlain and he allowed a 2 run homer. In short I made poor decisions with my pen and they took advantage of it and won the game. Stillwell hit his first homer of the year.
