                    JULY 11TH: Marlins (42-45) Vs Cubs (42-45)
Oy vey what a really tough loss. Up 3-1 I left Tanana in the game too long, which led to them scoring twice in the eight to tie it. We went ahead in the bottom of the inning but Goose blew the save and then Heredia gave up 2 runs in the 10th and we fell. Guillen had 2 RBI's.
Final Score: Cubs 6 Marlins 4

                    JULY 12TH: Marlins (42-46) Vs Cubs (43-45)
The good news is that we won. The almost great news is that Bryn Smith had a no hitter going with 2 outs in the 8th before they got a hit off of him. Jay Bell hit a homer off of him to open the ninth so we went to the pen and Bedrosian, Cook and Gossage combined to close them out in the ninth. Nice win. Shumpert had a HR.
Final Score: Marlins 4 Cubs 1

                    JULY 13TH: Marlins (43-46) Vs Cubs (43-46)
It was a pitchers duel between Chuck Smith & Mike Morgan thru 5 until in the 6th Smith gave up a 2 run double to Candy Maldanado followed by a 2 run homer to Rick Wilkins. But we came roaring back in the 7th for 5 runs, capped by a bases loaded 3 run double from Eisenreich. Bedrosian went the last 1.1 innings to notch the save as we gave Goose a rest and we eeked out a good win.
Final Score: Marlins 6 Cubs 4

                    JULY 14TH: Marlins (44-46) Vs Cubs (43-47)
We scored 4 runs in the first thanks to a couple of Cubs errors and Saunders proceeded to throw 7 innings of 1 hit ball. Landrum & Heredia closed it out and we take 3 of 4 from the Cubs to open the 2nd half, nice. Lemke went 3-4 with 2 RBI.
Final Score: Marlins 5 Cubs 0

                      JULY 15TH: Marlins (45-46) Vs Mets (62-28)
A good start to the series as we blooped and bled Doc Gooden & then Bobby Jones and the rest of the Mets pen for 9 runs and
15 hits. Heaton went 8 innings giving up 4 runs. Goodwin went 3-5 and had 4 SB's and we rolled to an easy win and got back to .500.
Final Score: Marlins 9 Mets 5

                      JULY 15TH: INJURY NEWS
First "bad" news of the second half as we find out that Frank Tanana has a sprained finger that will sideline him about 2 weeks. We sign SP Armando Reynoso who had been in the Braves organization before being realeased a few weeks back. He'll get a couple of spot starts with us.

                      JULY 16TH: Marlins (46-46) Vs Mets (62-29)
Reynoso didn't pitch badly, giving up 3 runs over 7 innings but we couldn't muster much off of Sid Fernandez and Cook was shaky in the 9th as we fell.
Final Score: Mets 5 Marlins 2

                      JULY 17TH: Marlins (46-47) Vs Mets (63-29)
Huge win as we got to Saberhagen for 4 runs and Bryn Smith was going along effortlessly till he gave up 3 runs in the 7th but our bullpen was masterfull again and we hung on for the win and series victory.
Final Score: Marlins 4 Mets 3

                      JULY 18TH: OFF DAY

                      JULY 18TH: TRANSACTION NEWS

TRADE We work out a fairly big deal with Atlanta to send Jim Eisenreich along with minor leaguers Kevin Young, Pablo Ozuna and RP Marc Valdez to the Braves in exchange for 3B Vinny Castilla who's rated 77/79 and $800K in cash. I really hate sending away 3 prospects even if they are only low 80 rated prospects but Castilla, who is not a stud by any means but still gives us alot more flexability for next season. This move allows Gene Larkin to play everyday at first, moving Carreon back to the outfield and strenghtening our bench and LH lineup by adding Castilla to it. The added bonus is that Castilla is only making $50K this season although he will hit arbitration I think we can get a good deal out him. If anyone else is gonna be moved at the point it would be Carreon, Larkin or Heaton.

                        JULY 19TH: Marlins (47-47) At Cubs (45-49)
Chuck Smith got blasted for 8 runs over 5.1 IP and we were never in it as the Cubbies romped.
Final Score: Cubs 9 Marlins 3

                        JULY 20TH: Marlins (47-48) At Cubs (46-49)
Just an all around drubbing as Gaetti smacked 2 HR's and drove in 5 runs. Saunder threw 6 shutout innings and the pen combined for 3 shutout innings as we rolled to a win.
Final Score: Marlins 9 Cubs 0

                        JULY 21ST: Marlins (48-48) At Cubs (46-50)
Neal Heaton really scuffled, giving up 8 runs in 4 innings. We mustered a late comeback but fell just short as the Cubs take 2 of 3 from us.
Final Score: Cubs 8 Marlins 6

                          JULY 23RD: Marlins (48-49) Vs Mets (66-31)
Reynoso pitched well but the bullpen gave up a couple of runs and Saberhagen pretty much shut us down.
Final Score: Mets 4 Marlins 2

                          JULY 24TH: Marlins (48-50) Vs Mets (67-31)
Man oh man what a ballgame. They touched up Bryn Smith for 3 runs in the first inning but from then on he shut them down, we scraped back to tie it and it went into extra innings. They went ahead in the top of the 13th off of Goose in his 2nd inning of work but we came back scored twice in the bottom of the inning culminating in a bloop Goodwin single to score Santovania from second base for the game winner. Wooo hooo!
Final Score: Marlins 4 Mets 3 (13 Innings)

                          JULY 25TH: Marlins (49-50) Vs Mets (67-32)
Another nice win as we wait out Gooden and finaly break thru off of him and the Mets pen in the 7th and 8th innings and pile up some runs. Chuck Smiths only mistake was a 2 run shot to George Bell. Our tired bullpen did a solid job finishing up and this was a very nice series win for us.
Final Score: Marlins 7 Mets 4

                            JULY 26TH: Marlins (50-50) At Cardinals (48-53)
One more time we sneak by. Saunders throws 6 shutout innings, our bullpen scuffles a bit but Goose closes out a one run affair and we eek out a win to move over .500.
Final Score: Marlins 3 Cardinals 2

                            JULY 27TH: Marlins (51-50) At Cardinals (48-54)
Tough loss as despite a great effort from Heaton our bullpen couldn't hold them in a tie game in the bottom of the ninth and they got the win.
Final Score: Cardinals 3 Marlins 2

                            JULY 28TH: Marlins (51-51) At Cardinals (49-54)
Very tough loss as we acutally led 5-2 at one point before Reynoso started getting shelled. He allowed 4 HR's in all. We did manage to make it close but came up just short as we dip back below .500. Still, we're on our way out West for the first time this season and i'm a little excited.
Final Score: Cardinals 7 Marlins 6

                            JULY 29TH: OFF DAY

JULY 29TH: INJURY & ROSTER NEWS
Frank Tanana is ready to come off the DL. He'll start tommorow and everyone else in our rotation will get an extra day of rest, 2 actualy counting the off day.

                              JULY 30TH: Marlins (51-52) At Giants (53-50)
Tanana is awesome going 7 and only giving up a run, Goose got into a 9th inning jam but worked out of it for a save and we pick up a win to start our west coast swing.
Final Score: Marlins 4 Giants 2

                              JULY 31ST: Marlins (52-52) At Giants (53-51)
No luck today as Dave Burba shut us the eff down. A solo HR by Carreon is all we managed in the loss.
Final Score: Giants 4 Marlins 1

                              AUGUST 1ST: Marlins (52-53) At Giants (54-51)
A momentus 13 inning for us as Bill Swift held us in check thru 7 innings but we got to their bullpen and sent into extra innings were we scraped across a run in the 13th and Goose made it stand up. Nice. We are .500 and headed back east for a 9 game home stand where it would be nice to pile on some wins.
Final Score: Marlins 3 Giants 2 (13 Innings)
