  • In closing, you won't be able to "fix" FOF's financial flaws with a simple rule or two. Your best bet is waiting for the next version of the game.

            When will that be?

I agree this rule wont Fix the problem completely nor did I say the main reason for this rule was to fix the financial problem. I was more interested in fixing the contract issue. As in person A offers 65 mil for a player Person B offers 80 mil for the same player just to outbid him knowing he probably cant afford a big contract like that under the idea that he isn't going to have to honor the deal he will just reneg it down to 35-40 mil the next season. I think if you offer the huge contract to outbid someone else you should have to pay what you bid on him. I don't like the ability to weasel out of deals you made to outbid someone else. That is my main issue. The side effects other owners had pointed out would be a Minorly improved FA class. That isnt what I was actually after with this rule but it would be a nice side effect.

Wouldn't he be barking up my tree? Telling me I am someone im not and asking to have private conversations with me when I haven't even met him and don't even know who he is? I didn't know he was a founding member or the commish but now I do. I don't see how it has anything to do with anything since I haven't said anything bad about him nor to him.

You have my apologies if I offended you or him though iceman.

              • 1) I don't think it's actually been stated to DakotaGeorge so: Jeff is an ex-commissioner. Much like ex-Presidents, there's really not much of a loss of given respect once the "Ex" is added in.

                2) As I understand it this thread has no "weight" to it despite it's outcome.

                3) Nonetheless I have a serious doubt there's anything new to discuss... all over again. The voting system still works and all that choose to vote will... for nothing as I understand it until someone puts up an official league vote - and "official" isn't something you just type in the title. It means coming from the office of authority which at this point consists all of Matt & Sui.

                • David.. I liked my version of who Jeff was better than yours.. just so you know.. I also think Jeff appreciated more.. I'm now slinging mud on you for depreciating Jeff.

Is that a word? Depreciating? It sounds cool.

Well I wasn't going to make a thread myself that would be an offical vote i believe the vote was WOULD you vote for rule B if it was introduced as a rule to vote on.

                      • I think its a shame that some of you guys would not want to pass a rule that would actually make this game better. This league is set in its ways and doesn't like change. I can respect that but i still think the people who would not like this rule is not thinking clearly.

I enjoy my time here even though the game itself has serious problems. I probably would not have even suggested this rule until i saw the Torres situation. I know stuff like this goes on with everybody's team including mine but a player throwing away 40 million dollars in the 2nd year of his contract just threw up a red flag that something had to be done. Why can't you guys see that??

Free agent class is nothing but somebody elses garbage. Every team can keep whoever they want on their team regardless of the price. Is this how its supposed to work?? What is the challenge then of having a cap?? The cap is what intrigued me about this game and in this league its open checkbook policy then just reneg the contract down the next year and save a bundle.

I must say im kinda disappointed in you guys.

                        • BOSS, I agree with holding people to their contracts which is why I'm in favor of bonuses. And have brought to the league's attention my idea for a few rounds (maybe FA1-4) of "target player rounds" of FA where there's a minimum deal length (4 seasons?) on any players anyone deems a "league target for sign and re-sign". The bonus rule wouldn't apply for this small time frame and whoever wanted the player would get him -> long term.

I'm against the reneg in last year rule simply because it gives me nothing to do as a GM from after the trading deadline to the off-season. And it doesn't let me plan ahead with specifics. A guy might change his salary request entirely in the last season despite me making room for him. I do think the players should ask for more in renegotiations... but they don't.... I also believe that identifying the talent that you want to keep early and signing them long term is a big part of GMing. And the proposed rule directly conflicts with that frame of thought.

And by definition I think we'd all pass any rule that makes the league "better". Any time you don't see a 32-0 nothing vote then the proposition must change the league not merely make it "better". This doesn't make the league better to me. It just changes the direction to one that I don't like and one that's out there - all over the FOF place it seems to me from my recent other league perusal.
