"marginally in the race"??? You do know how this race works, right? I've got a two game lead on the bye week.

Not entirely sure that I agree but even so I've stated many times that I've stopped playing "football" and started playing "FOF".

This is not dependent on my depth chart. It can happen either way.

    fair enough opinion

I'm 10-2, which I think is a big difference in my conference this specific season, and the reason I didn't even think of sitting anyone against Oakland.

again not dependent on my depth chart. I play these teams (and can win or lose) either way.

"balls to the wall" might be a catchy phrase but since I'm not sure exactly how to interpret your meaning here so I'll just say again that I'm doing everything in my control to (legally) increase my chances (in my belief) of winning a championship. I believe that's always been the ultimate goal.

If this discussed move poses any advantage then I gladly recommend other playoff participants use it.

i guess this discussion is moot if no other owners have concerns about the strategy of sitting stars for the purpose of lowering next years contract demands...i dont like it...i call it cheating..to me its no different than losing games on purpose to impact a draft pick...

I find it wrong to do this.
regardless if you are 4-8 or 8-4.
I knopw some are not playing Football but are playing the "game". But in the interest of fairness and good sportsmanship, I think you should try and win every game. Otherwise, we will have a bunch of guys tanking trying to get that 1st pick.
Trying to get lower contract demands is tanking and should not be allowed.

I went out before this season and said that I knew I didn't have a playoff-team but I'd go out there and try to do my best each week; and that's the kind of football I've been playing.

I've played my stars even when they're "probable" and I've played Virgil every game.

But I still have a losing record.

Three years ago I had the division win locked with one game left of the season and so I rested Virgil to avoid injury.. that one came back to bite me in the ass.. Gladden lost his only career start, I won the division, but Little Rock won the conference.. I lost in the first round of the playoffs and have regretted it since then..

I've kept looking back at the forum to find where Lawrence said that he was resting someone to make his contract less next year, but I can't find it--only that he was accused of it. If that was the case, and it may be, I agree that such a philosophy is unethical to the integrity of the league.

There are situations however that warrant having someone else in the position, such as the development of another player, or in a meaningless game such as exhibition, or the last game of the season in which the playoff picture is unaffected.

What is awkward, is the opinion of the owner that intentionally losing games, or putting games in jeopardy by "gambling with breathing room" and shifting into neutral with 3-4 weeks left, is no big deal because he can live with it.

I'm 5 and 7. Two weeks ago I was 3-7. I don't think Dakota is very good, and yet I try to make adjustments to my team even when things seem pointless, that seem to make me mediocre every year. Maybe it would be better if I just let the team tank for a couple of seasons, because then the "game" would reward me (with healthy stars for next year and good draft picks to boot) without the "real life football" pressure of the media and fans, breathing down my neck, on why my team isn't putting its best foot forward.

            just a thought.

BTW 2007 fixes this, because a player will develop "rust" when they sit out. Really forces you to play everyone during even exhibition season, and really hurts when you have to bring in someone off the bench or the Free Agent market. I like this fix.

I stated something to the effect of a better negotiation on next year's contract demands would be a nice possible side bonus to the main plan of winning a Championship. Since people often read/hear what they want that possible side bonus became my motivation in the minds of some.

What's awkward to me is where you got "intentionally losing games", "putting games in jeopardy" or "shifting into neutral"...

I'd restate my stance but I haven't seen too much evidence of people's ability to read what I actually type so I might as well say I'm hoping to lose the rest of my games in some complex scheme to win in 2027... and by win I mean get the 1st draft pick of course.

This me reminds me of when I said "avoiding interceptions" was a stupid rating to have and that got twisted into "Jester thinks there should be QB's who don't throw INTs!"

Notice now in FOF 2007 there is no such rating.

I said then that it was a rediculous rating to have and it has now been removed. "If", like "not" and other words might be short but have a dramatic effect on grammar.

                        To fully illustrate:

Apparently there was confusion when I followed along the flawed direction of the designer, which my whole point against was that is was in fact flawed.

                            • I am against resting guys to get cheaper contracts for them if that is the only motivation, but there are so many in my mind legitimate reasons to rest someone (so they don't get hurt, to develop younger guys, to see if younger guys can play, etc) that it's tough to prove that that is why you are resting someone.
