I would be one to agree with that. What I'm wondering is if being able to guarantee that certain players will be healthy to start a 4 game post-season is a bigger advantage. I'd rather have Stanfield and some others on the road than homefield advantage and backups playing due to injuries.

For what it is worth, in 2007 Little Rock finished the regular season with 8 straight wins, bye in the first week of playoffs, and sailed to championship.
Last year, in 2008, Vipers finished the regular season with 9 straight wins, bye in the first week of playoffs, and then went on to win the championship.
I can't prove it but it seems that continuity could promote a momentum that swings a big stick too.
I for one avoid that first week of the playoffs like the plague, and if by chance, I can pull out a magic trick or two in the next few weeks, it looks like the plague will be a welcome site for the Vipes this year.

We weathered a 3-2 turnover disadvantage and a 14-3 penalty disadvantage to come out on top in a game we led by two scores most of the way. [ifl]Fred Rousseau[/ifl] had a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble and didn't even make the Defensive Players of the Week list. Travashamockery.
3 games up with 4 to go, we are pretty likely to make the playoffs. We hold the tiebreaker against Lawrence, but lose it against SLC and Lansing, so we could end up seeded anywhere.Los Angeles Matadors AC West Champs: 2037

Then it's him versus one of the top defenses in the league right now...I'm bringing the stampede to Houston next week. Booker still out?

isnt it problematic for us to have guys benched to lower the contract demands next season.
I understand injury.
I understand youth development when you are eliminated.
I dont understand the contract demand issue.
Is it okay for a 4-8 team to play the backups so i can renegotiate better deals with my starters next year. And at the same time get a higher draft pick. I dont think it matters whether your 4-8 or 8-4 if you make those decisions for the wrong reasons.GM Wichita Outlaws

I can definitely see this being a controversial argument. The one big difference I see between the 8-4 team sitting starters and the 4-8 team is that the 4-8 team "improves" by losing games (for next season's draft) whereas the 8-4 team improves by winning ballgames. A playoff-bound team sitting starters is simply gambling in a different direction (that they're victories without those starters will be enough) than the norm (that the players won't get injured in the last couple of games). I believe any side bonus you can get while honestly trying to win a championship is perfectly valid.Originally posted by dberner30isnt it problematic for us to have guys benched to lower the contract demands next season.

In my situation I'm VERY confident with Rockwell and I'd like to see some more evidence in real game situations. I think my record has earned me some "breathing room" to gamble with and in the end I want to make full use of each game of the season in the best way that I can in the interest of a championship.
I'm also hoping to get a much better deal on Harris Mahoney's contract next season due to Bucky starting all season. Mahoney's ratings are higher. Should I have been forced to start Mahoney over Bucky, who was leading the IFL before getting injured?

dont let me spoil the party...i see the 4-8 team being more willing to play the reserve types to get a look at the future because they have nothing to lose...i can see avoiding injuries to key starters once you lock homefield or the division and cant get homefield etc.
i cant see being marginally in the race and willing to go on the road in the playoffs and benching guys...that is a game move and not a football move...it also impacts other playoff races as you may drop games that impact other divisions/conferences...im just not cool with the contract argument here...so basically im saying i oppose the strategy of a contender coasting for the stated reasons...your 9-2 at this point...you play games against teams in wildcard races and you will change the playoff picture...you have not locked home field nor a 1st rd bye...sorry you should be playing balls to the wall...GM Wichita Outlaws
