Sweet... I always thought it was an afterthought in 2K4. It was my favorite part of the game when I was playing WAY back when...

Well, I guess you might be disappointed because you can't control where every player plays. It's still just the gunners, snapper, and returners. BUT you can basically decide which guys will actually play on special teams duty from their player cards. The other addition, and a very necessary one, is two max FG distance settings.

Help file:

Use the No Special Teams button to designate that a player should not be used to fill out special teams - punt returns and punt coverage, kick returns and kick coverage. This is not a guarantee that the player won't be used. For instance, if you have only four linebackers on your active roster, it will be very difficult to keep a linebacker off of special teams. But it will help a lot.

I love the ability to ask guys to gain weight or slim down. That'll help with position switches. I guess that could be considered a roleplay element.

Helps clear up the 'Go for it' vagarity a little, I'd imagine.
