if it was something that was feasible and the league was in favor of, it would be somethign that would be implemented 2-3 seasons in the future to allow for people to prepare for.Originally posted by DakotaGeorge View PostHere is my take on things. Changing the cap now with the league this deep would be damaging to some teams. On the other hand I have always wanted to have more interesting free agent classes. A cap reduction wouldnt change my situation one bit I will be heavily under the cap either way. I think we should leave everything as its always been unless someone comes up with a really great plan which might include a GRADUAL reduction over YEARS and YEARS not an abrupt reduction.
Tarcone is also right. The teams with the money to over spend on these guys are teams that are usually bottom feeders and heck it does bring parity. Its like a waiver rule in a fantasy sports league. teams with the bad standings get first priority every week you know? Only problem with this I guess would be the lack of a market to begin with.NEWARK BULLDOGS WALL OF HONOR

Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money get back
I'm all right Jack
Keep your hands off my stack
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that
Do goody good bullshit
I'm in the hi-fidelity

I wouldn't mind if the cap was lowered a little, but I don't think it's that big of a deal right now.
I am wondering if we should take a look at the 2 year bonus rule though. Is it really helping to prevent people from offering a boatload of bonus money? If anything, I think it is hurting because the bonus money is the only guarantee, so why not allow teams to offer a $40/2 year deal but have $30+ as bonus?
With so much cap space by the bottom teams, they're going to offer insane contracts and get the guys they want anyway. At least this way they will be forced to pay for it in both seasons instead of just 1.Steve Beans - Houston Renegades

What you don't like is exactly how it's designed to be.Originally posted by Jave View PostThe thing about instituting a rule like this is, the people with the money in free agency will still be the big winners, and 90% of the time will still get the big name free agents. This rule won't change that, but it will equalize the playing field so to speak to give more people a reason to participate in free agency when they know they have a shot at every big name player.
Not everyone should have a shot at the big name players... not even close. The lesser rosters should naturally have more $$$ since they lack talent. They then trade that $$ for overpriced talent in FA if they choose.
The new financials will also catch up to teams soon.
FWIW - I don't think Lawrence has ever signed anyone during FA1, only roster fillers right before the 1st pre-season game.

I don't believe that for one second. That would be like Denver offering Manning a 2 year, 100 million dollar deal, then after the first year, resigning him to 17 million a year. That's just not plausible nor realistic.Originally posted by JesterBlaze View PostWhat you don't like is exactly how it's designed to be.

True, the new financials should kick in. But for how long? I thought the issue with having to deal with the cap would come sooner. 3-5 years it looks like now...(yoda voice)Originally posted by JesterBlaze View PostWhat you don't like is exactly how it's designed to be.

Owners like myself stopped participating in free agency just for this reason. If I had say, 20 million to spend in FA, I knew I had no shot at 80% of the players so I pretty much ignored the entire stage. I see no reason why this rule wouldn't improve the game and league.
I think the main problem isnt that Javes idea is bad but that it is just one more thing for the commissioners to monitor. I think the owners for the most part will look at the other contracts, if they lost out on a UFA they really wanted, and report the ones in violation of the 2 year contract rule. But expecting the commissioners to check every contract given league wide is asking a lot from a 'leisure' activity.sigpic

Because Denver would never have $100M to spare... That's just not plausible nor realistic... because the NFL replaces the bottom teams each year so they can't get into the long term trouble that some teams in the IFL are in... The NFL has much more parity because everyone from the top down needs to produce to keep their jobs. The IFL is for fun so I'm not suggesting we kick out the bottom 3 each season but there is a cumulative effect when less than 32 teams use ALL their available resources each season.Originally posted by Jave View PostI don't believe that for one second. I've been losing about 2 good players every 3 seasons to salary cap reasons for a little while now. And this is while trading back some high draft picks to avoid their price tag. My latest franchise tag, OLB Neal Kemp, has a $9M franchise tag and will only drop that to $7M as part of a huge long term contract. He might be the next Phantom to go.Originally posted by BuddaKINGII View PostTrue, the new financials should kick in. But for how long? I expect this season that other teams will start to feel the squeeze.
