FWIW, Marijuana was legal until AFTER prohibition ended. US did not want to throw all those federal employees out on the street during the depression, but had nothing for them too do, so they demonizied weed and a host of other drugs. Kept the Federalies on the payroll.

Until that time there were opium dens in most major cities, chruches preached against it, but it was perfectly legal.
