  • 2014 Contract Violations

SS Stephen Edelstein was signed to a 1 year deal by Oakland where the Bonus was higher than the base salary. This contract will be voided in tommorow nights sim and he will return to free agency.

LT Jason Dube signed by Wichita also violates the rule. This contract will be voided in tommorow nights sim and he will return to free agency.

RB Allan Crespo also has a violated contract. Contract will be Voided tonight with the other guys.
    I luv British womenz.

Sorry Sui, my fault. I still believe the contract is not going against the spirit of the rule. The reason we made the rule was to avoid contracts with excessive bonus's vs base pay, ie: $4,000,000 bonus, $900,000 a year base salary. My bonus was what.....$1,100,000 with a base salary of $1,000,000 a year? I don't believe there was any intention on my part to abuse the salary/bonus.

Not arguing here, I will just resign him, just defending myself!!

Ok, just downloaded the files so I could remember what I did. The difference between the bonus and salary was $100,000. Ok. I also didn't offer him a longer contract because next year would be his 14th year. He's been on my team for 10 seasons so it's not like he's some stud free agent I had to break the rules to get him to sign. I understand why the rule is in place, and according to the rules I am ok with you voiding the contract, however I do believe in the future we should revisit this rule for situations like this. There was no malious intend on my part to break the rules to sign a 13 year vet with a 44 rating. haha

        Just saying.....

I am working so I have not had a chance to read everything. Does the rule apply to resignings?

            Only UFA's.

Jave, I pretty much agree with you, but i can't pick and choose when I enforce the rule. If i see it, I gotta void it.

Oh naa Sui, I totally agree. The rules are the rules, I have no issues at all, not even upset. I am just saying, maybe we should revisit this rule sometime during the season, maybe take it on a case by case basis? Or something. I have 46 million in cap space(hahahah sorry DakotaGeorge I know ya hate it) I will just offer some stupid amount when he is a free agent again. I lost Myer trying to save money, not doing that again.

I'm not gonna get the "past injustices" am I? Is there a tool for the commish now to void it or are you just cutting him?

right thing too do. Jave I doubt you will be in a bidding war for his services.

                  GL on the resigning

FWIW I read the rule as ANY 1 or 2 year contract. Do I have that wrong???

nah, theres a "void contract" button, pretty sure past injustices dont occur out of it.

wait, i must be wrong. i thought the following trade was fine:

                      Bonus $2million
                      Year 1 salary: $1.5 million
                      Year 2 salary: $1.8 million

i thought since the bonus split into two (2million divided by 2 years = $1million bonus per year) the above contract was fine. so now it's the bonus can't be more than the first year salary whatsoever? i don't have a prob with this, a rule is a rule, but i just wanna make sure i understand it.

lol, in 1 and 2 year deals, the bonus applied in any given year cannot exceed the base salary for said year. It's not that hard.

It was just my stupidity. The purpose of the one year contract was his age. I am pretty sure he will retire next season and I didn't want to be stuck with one cent of dead cap space. I will just pay better attention next time.
