TRIVIA BYTES - Week 17 - POSITION WEEK PREVIEW

This is an exclusive Trivia Bytes evaluation of the IFL as it enters its last week of the regular season. Please, if there are other thoughts as to tie breakers etc., please chime in!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    AC - PREVIEW

 AC NORTH ... Two teams, only one will make the playoffs.
Iowa City (8-7) at Clevland (8-7) ... for all the marbles in the Northern playground. Who would have thought, three weeks ago?

 AC SOUTH ... Two teams, both will make the playoffs but with what seed?
Murfreesboro (8-7) at St. Louis (11-4). St. Louis is playing for a possible division championship, if Houston loses. The Cardinals are already assured a playoff berth.
Houston (11-4) at Louisiana (5-10). Houston can lock up the AC South with a win. Renegades can also get a first round bye if Norfolk beats Hartford.

 AC EAST ... Two teams, both will make the playoffs, but with what seed?
Hartford (12-3) at Norfolk (11-4) ... Hartford takes the division with a win; if Norfolk prevails, the Grizzlies lose the division because of a common opponent tie breaker. A win also guarantees Hartford of a first round bye. A win and a Portland loss gives the Grizzlies home field advantage throughout the playoffs. A win for Norfolk positions the Vipers for a potential first round bye, but only if St. Louis beats Houston.

 AC WEST... One team by itself and with a 'bye' in the hand.
Portland (13-2) at Anchorage (8-7) ... A win guarantees the Seals with homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. A loss will not jeopardize a first round bye.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    NC - PREVIEW

 NC NORTH .. A division with three teams alive, or is there only two?
    Pittsburgh (12-3) at Lansing (9-6).
Pittsburgh has locked up the division title and a first round bye. A win and a Lawrence loss will give the Power home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Lansing is in the playoffs with a win. If a loss, there is a chance that the Ogres will be home watching on TV.
Madison ( 7-8 ) at Dakota (8-7). The game suggests that Dakota is alive. We, at TB cannot figure it out. We thought we had it but in the end, declare a playoff berth for Lansing mainly based on a better division record. Since the game thinks that there is a way, we lean to the game being right since it is the ultimate umpire is such situations. All beware, Dakota may have some mystery way of getting in, albeit that might be a "bug" in the game.

 NC SOUTH. A division champ resting for a week.
Tulsa ( 7-8 ) at Little Rock (10-5). The Toads cannot get a bye and clearly have won the division. Look for some starters getting a holiday.

 NC EAST . The king for the day still needs another week.
Lawrence (13-2) at Orlando (4-11). Lawrence can lock up home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win. A loss and a win by Pittsburgh allow the Power to claim home field advantage because of Pittsburgh's head-to-head win earlier in the season.

 NC WEST -- Two teams, both will make the playoffs, but with what seed?
Oakland (9-6) at Salt Lake City (10-5). Salt Lake City is in the driver's seat and can steer themselves to a division championship with a win. Oakland can upset the apple cart and win the division by outplaying the Stallions on Sunday.

EDIT: The situation in Dakota bugs the shit out of me. Please, somebody find the logic that has the game giving Dakota a shot.

Noticed one mistake. SLC can't get a bye as PIT and LAW have both the top spots locked up.

Edit: Hmm.. same goes for Little Rock. Pitt actually has 12 wins, maybe that's what caused the confusion.

Salt Lake and Little Rock are locked into first round games already, with no chance of stealing a bye from Pittsburgh and Lawrence.

          Other then that, good stuff.

This weeks game was circled at the start of the season as one of the biggest games of the year, and if you ask me, it is the biggest game of the year.

Also, Courtney Cleeland has made a good case for comeback player of the year. Granted, his stats don't jump out at you, but he leads the defense that gets to the QB as well as any in the IFL with 6.5 sacks, he has another 15 hurries, and 4 passes defensed.

Jim Hickman might not have the flashiest stats, but he can make a good case for MVP.

                  2004 IFL AC East Runner-UP - Wildcard - AC Runner-up 10-5-1
                  2005 3rd Place AC East 6-10 2007 2nd Place AC East 8-8
                  2006 3rd Place AC East 7-9 2008 2nd Place AC East 9-7

I don't think the game takes tiebreakers into account when eliminating teams before the final week of the season. It just knows that Dakota is a game out with a game to play, and will figure out the tiebreaker only if they end the season tied. Dakota can't make the playoffs.

I have some time to think about it, but right now I am leaning towards playing a lot of my backups, especially since players like Mann and Anderson are probable and could use the rest. I don't think I'll take everyone out though, I'm still going to try and win in case Lawrence loses.

Yeah, homerism aside, the MVP race shouldn't be very tight.

Helping matters for you guys with MVP candidates is that there isn't a real one from Lawrence despite the record. Hunter Crawford should be coach of the year though!

Been circled on my calendar from the start too.

... lovin' it when things look well in hand for the Griz, but the other team finds a way to say: you can run but you can't hide, even with Finger being down for the last six weeks.

... lovin' the chance to win it on the field, as circled on the calendar.

                              ... lovin' these big games.

The Vipers will come loaded for Grizzly this Sunday at the snake pit. Bring it or lose it.
