My person opinion that franchising a player and then trading him sounds dubious...again just my opinion. The purpose of franchising is to get a lower contract from a player to help keep that particular franchise from having to be split up over one great player. To trade him makes the contract really unfair to the player. Otherwise he could have applied for free agency and got a better contract from another team. Perhaps the Player's Association should look into this.

Again...just my opinion. I would like to see the rules state that if you franchise a player he must remain on your roster for the entire year.

I would have no problem with this. Forces yet another decision and ain't that the fun part.

On the other hand if you franchise a guy with the intention of trading or cutting but not playing that could be a big chunk of change you have to keep on your CAP till you dump him. So there is some plusses and minuses involved with keeping it the way it is.

this is ludacris. If it can happen in the NFL, it should be allowed in the Imperial League.
If someone wants to trade their franchise guy, then so be it. He's essentially under contract to your team like every other player

I have to agree with Matt... If it is the NFL it should be (in some form) in the game.. That is what this game is suppose to simulate right

But I mean think about it. Your offering a guy top money. When I look at someone like Rich. He wanted 4.5 Mil this year. Why pay 4.5 when I can get him for 2Mil by tagging him. Some technically it can be considered good cap management ...

And if you want to trade him, you are securing the player for future considerations...

If a player tags him, there's a sense of...ok...I'll take one for the team because I'm important to them (as much as I hate it). Now that team turns around and trades them (basically saying...um...you're not THAT important to us.) Instead of being able to test the market the player is effectively shafted. Some other team may have been willing to pay market price, as many times market price is above franchise salary. Otherwise we wouldn't tag anyone. We let them go to free agency and take our chances on re-signing him.

Am I making sense here?

The Bills franchised Peerless Price and then traded him to Atlanta for a 1st rnd pick. The Bills had no intention of keeping Price after they franchised him.
The Raiders franchised Woodson last year, with the intent to trade him.

I think this happens a lot more than you realize.

well its not like franxhised players are getting minimum or anything. They make the average of the top 5 in the league at their position. I think the Colts James made $6m last season as a franchise RB.

just talking math here - the only people who could complain $$$ wise about being franchised would be the top or second highest paid player in the league everyone else should get a raise by being franchised. Of course there could be cases where the top 4 all make close to the same so that the all 4 of the top players would see a $ decline of some sort but even then that would leave everyone else in the league at that position getting a $ increase.
