INJURY UPDATE

The big injury news this week is a strained patellar tendon to starting LDT Wes Goad. Goad is slated to be out for 3-4 weeks until he is completely healed. This is just another injury to an already depleted Seals' defense.

LT Joseph Reynolds out 61 weeks with repetitive concussion syndrome.

SS William Dietrich out 37 weeks with MCL knee surgery.

LDT Wes Goad out 4 weeks with a strained patellar tendon.

LB Andre Munoz out 3 weeks with a broken tibia.

WR Dexter McKeown is questionable for 2 weeks with a broken ankle.

WEEK 12 AFC WEST DIVISION OVERVIEW

Anchorage (9-2)

With an impressive 38-10 win over Madison and an Albuquerque loss, the Lynx find themselves atop the AFC West division. And the credit goes to QB Leslie Steiner who seems to have regained his TD tossing ways as his five touchdowns were too much for the Demons of Madison. That's eight touchdown tosses for Steiner in two weeks. Next week the Lynx take a trip to Montreal to visit the 5-6 Firebirds. This could be a great opportunity for the Lynx to stretch their lead in the division with the Matadors in a tough battle in week thirteen.

Albuquerque (8-3)

With a tough 24-15 loss to Pittsburgh, the Matadors find themselves a game behind division rival Anchorage for the AFC West crown. There's plenty of football still left to play, but QB David Humphrey is going to have to do better than his two touchdowns and four interceptions in the last three games. Albuquerque has the AFC leading 10-1 Norfolk Vipers in town for week thirteen in what should be a huge game for both squads. The Matadors need a win in week thirteen or else it truly will be an uphill battle for the AFC West crown.

Portland Seals (5-6)

The Seals received a much needed road win as they held onto a 35-27 win over the Lansing Ogres. WR Dominic Field was gold in the red zone as he snagged three touchdowns from Jay Caro. The Seals visit Wichita in week thirteen to take on the 4-7 Outlaws in what should be another tough road test for this franchise.

Fresno Chaos (4-7)

The Chaos ended a four game losing streak as they beat the visiting Dakota Spirit 26-7. RB Bucky Beaver's 163 yards was almost as impressive as QB Patrick Williams' 16 completions on 20 attempts for 212 passing yards. It was just an onslaught of offense for Fresno in week twelve. Week thirteen has the 6-5 Hartford Grizzlies visiting Fresno for a potential two game winning streak.

Thanks Suicane. I can't take all the credit (or any of it really) since I've been borrowing ideas from the various dynasties that I have been reading for the last year or two. It's been a huge help in giving me ideas to write about. But thank you just the same.

PS: I forgot to add that I love your Cardinals blog. It reminds me of what I might see if the Raiders' owner Al Davis had a website.

I had a similar project in another league where my GM character would do web chats, etc. With your OK, I may have to "borrow" your blog idea for some of my future Seals Source write ups.

SEALS ROOKIE RECEIVER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Rookie WR Dominic Field found himself getting some love from the national media this week after his 196 yards receiving against Wichita. The rookie receiver has 935 receiving yards and has been an integral part of one the more productive passing offenses in the IFL this season. Of course it doesn't hurt having QB Jay Caro throwing the ball and TE Allen Bryant lining up nearby.

In college, Field put up big numbers in his senior year as displayed by his1258 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. These numbers earned Fields 1st Team All-American and 1st Team All-ACC honors. They would also earn him the #7 overall pick in the draft as well as a starting job with the Seals. Not bad for a receiver who didn't break out until his senior season.

INJURY UPDATE

Another week in the IFL means another winner (or in this case winners) in the injury lottery. This week starting guard LG Jack Wallace, backup RB Brady Parrish, and starting defensive end RDE Andy Maas are the new names added to the list. More bad news for LDT Wes Goad as he was re-evaluated and downgraded to questionable for three weeks.

RB Brady Parrish is questionable for 5 weeks with elbow bursitis.

LDT Wes Goad is doubtful for 3 weeks with a strained patellar tendon.

WR Dexter McKeown is probable for 1 week with a broken ankle.

WEEK 13 AFC WEST DIVISION OVERVIEW

Anchorage (10-2)

QB Leslie Steiner didn't have his best game (22 of 38 with 2 TD's and an interception), but it was good enough to give the Lynx a 21-13 win over Montreal as well as a share of the lead in the AFC. Next week the Lansing Ogres come to town with their 5-6-1 record. It could be another step closer to the AFC West crown since the Ogres are 0-2 this season against AFC West opponents (losses to Albuquerque and Portland).

Albuquerque (9-3)

After getting called out last week for his play against Pittsburgh, QB David Humphrey responded with an impresive 23-14 win over the 10-2 Norfolk Vipers. The game was a must win situation for the Matadors as they continue to trail the Lynx by one game for the division lead. Albuquerque travels to Dakota to take on the 5-7 Spirit in another must win game. Can David Humphrey get his team focused on the Spirit after this week's big win against Norfolk?

Portland Seals (6-6)

After a 31-28 shootout win against the Wichita Outlaws, the Portland Seals are back to .500 football for the first time since the fourth week of the 2006 season. Coincidentally that was a win over the Wichita Outlaws as well. Scary coincidences are not my specialty. QB Jay Caro had an outstanding outing against Wichita as he threw for 340 yards and more importantly four touchdowns. The Seals are now 2-0 on their four game road trip with the next trip to Madison to take on the Demons. The Demons have been struggling as of late with three losses in four games. The Seals will need another big game from Caro if they hope to stay .500 or better when they leave Madison.

Fresno Chaos (4-8)

The Chaos were roughed up 20-3 against the Grizzlies this week, but that was a side note to the big news in Fresno which had a new GM being announced. This will be the third GM in less then a year for the unstable franchise appropriately named Chaos. Week fourteen has the 7-5 Pittsburgh Power in Fresno. A big Chaos win over the Power could be nice house warming present for the new Fresno GM.

INJURY UPDATE

And the hits just keep on coming as another injured Seals player is out for an extended period of time. Starting center Archie Hooten is gone for the season. Starting linebacker, Cletus Bodnar, was also hit with the injury bug, but it shouldn't keep him out of the starting lineup. There was some good news on Brady Parrish's follow-up as he was upgraded from questionable to probable and his recovery time was shortened from five to three weeks.

WEEK 14 AFC WEST DIVISION OVERVIEW

Anchorage (11-2)

The Lynx get a tough 20-14 win over the Lansing Ogres with some surprise help coming from Anchorage's rarely used backup tightend, Jamison Falls (131 receiving yards). The Portland Seals come to town in week fifteen in what should be a battle between quarterbacks, Leslie Steiner and Jay Caro.

Albuquerque (10-3)

The Dakota Spirit nearly managed a big upset, but instead some clutch last minute kicking from the Matadors' Haywood Tate allowed Albuquerque to leave town with a 17-16 come from behind victory. In week fifteen it will be another must win game as the Matadors go on the road to face the Fresno Chaos. The Matadors need another win to keep pace with the division leading Lynx.

Portland Seals (6-7)

The Seals were just what the struggling Demons needed as Portland fell to Madison, 35-21. Madison QB Will Irby just absolutely drilled the helpless Portland Seals' defense as he threw for 430 yards and 3 touchdowns. Up next for the Seals is their biggest challenge of the season when they travel to Anchorage to take on the Lynx.

Fresno Chaos (4-9)

Fresno's gritty defense gave it their all against Pittsburgh in week fourteen, but it wasn't enough as the Power notched two field goals for a 6-0 win. Week fifteen doesn't get any easier as Fresno plays host to the AFC West crown chasing Albuquerque Matadors.

INJURY UPDATE

The injury list just keeps on getting bigger with two more starters added to the list this week. Thankfully we're near the end of the season or else this would be truly pathetic. Starting tackle Don Webb is now the third starter from the Seals' offensive line who is out for double digit weeks. Starting rookie receiver Blake Ameche joins the injury unit for his second stint of the season. Thankfully there isn't enough season left for a third trip. Defensive tackle Wes Goad's return was delayed another week after further prognosis from the Seals' medical team.

WEEK 15 AFC WEST DIVISION OVERVIEW

Anchorage (12-2)

With a 31-21 win over the Seals, Anchorage is just one win or a Matadors loss from clinching the AFC West crown. QB Leslie Steiner and his receiving corps were able to create big play after big play as they kept the Seals' defense on their heels for the entire game. Week sixteen has the Lynx visiting the 5-8-1 Dakota Spirit in what could be a division championship celebration if Steiner and company can take care of business.

Albuquerque (10-4)

After a near upset last week against the Spirit, the Matadors fell victim to an upset this week when the Chaos from Fresno topped them by a score of 17-15. K Haywood Tate left the field with his head hanging as his two missed field goals may have cost the Matadors a division crown. The Matadors' AFC West championship hopes are on life support with the 8-5-1 Demons of Madison coming to town in week sixteen. Ouch.

Portland Seals (6-8)

Another week and another 30+ points scored on the ailing Seals' defense as Portland leaves Anchorage with a 31-21 loss. Up next for the Seals is a visit from the NFC North division leading 9-5 Pittsburgh Power.

Fresno Chaos (5-9)

Fresno's gritty defense came through again, but this time the Fresno offense chipped in as the Chaos upset the Matadors. Fresno visits the 5-8-1 Lansing Ogres in week sixteen in what should be another tight defensive game.

Yeah, I kind of skimped on the previews and focused a little more on the AFC West title this week after the big upset in Fresno. And sad to say, but the next two weeks probably won't be much better. I'm hoping to do an AFC West dream team at particular positions.

Rest assured that I am not looking forward to the matchup this weekend.

The Seals' list of walking wounded again gets a few more additions as two more starters go down (CB Gary Montiel and LT Levon Abrams) and won't be playing in week seventeen. Franchise quarterback, QB Jay Caro, is having some issues with tendinitis in his knee, but that shouldn't keep him from the field this Sunday. LB Andre Munoz and RDE Andy Maas get a break from the injury list as they were claimed to be 100% by the medical staff.

WEEK 16 AFC WEST DIVISION OVERVIEW

Anchorage (13-2)

A hearty congratulations to Anchorage this week for capturing their second AFC West title since the league's inception. The Lynx disposed of the Dakota Spirit with a 17-0 shutout after a strong effort from their defense. The Lynx defense took charge early and destroyed any semblance of a passing attack by Spirit quarterback, Rocco Hooten. Week seventeen has division rival, Albuquerque, in town. The Anchorage coaching staff have some important decisions on who to play and who to rest before the playoffs.

Albuquerque (10-5)

A 102 yard Rusty Ramos kickoff return in OT spelled doom for the Matadors and their minimal AFC West title hopes as they fell to the Madison Demons by a score of 40-34. It's been a rough few weeks for Albuquerque as they've now dropped two games in a row and are headed to Anchorage to take on the newly crowned AFC West champs.

Portland Seals (7-8)

The Seals played like playoff spoilers in week sixteen as they up ended the Pittsburgh Power 29-24 in front of their fans in Portland. It was an emotional game as the Pittsburgh press created a full blown media assault on our hometown Seals, but Caro and company took care of the ball and made just enough plays to leave the stadium victorious. The Seals face the Fresno Chaos in week seventeen in a climactic “Battle for Third Place” as termed by Fresno management. Trophies and medals will be handed out to both teams following the game. Third place t-shirts are in the works as well.

Fresno Chaos (6-9)

A motivated Fresno offense took Lansing by surprise as the Chaos topped the Ogres 38-23. Fresno's QB Rob Richardson found his game and picked apart the Ogres' secondary. Fresno goes on the road again in week seventeen when they face the Portland Seals in an awe inspiring battle for yes, third place. Can you feel the energy?!
