What is that team thinking? Jave, any input from a Raiders fan? From my perspective, that's a horrible move. Are Raider fans excited to trade away a 1st for a chance to hit .500 before Seymour leaves via free agency?

That's one of the worst moves I've seen a team make in a long time, tradewise. Oakland is going to be horrible this year. Patriots cashed in.

      Good:
Seymour is a stud who will fill a huge area of need. I'd guess that he isn't going to play much DT for the Raiders. Insteadt, I suspect he'll play a lot of 4-3 DE then move inside on obvious passing downs (with Trevor Scott coming in to pass rush from the outside). It's pretty apparent that the Raiders are exceptionally weak on the edge against the run, and this should bolster that significantly.

Bad: He'll soon be 30, has had some recent injury issues and his contract is up after 2010. Will the Raiders be able to keep him? Will he be playing at a level where they want to keep him?

Bottom line: This is a risky move for the Raiders. Defensive lineman typically fall off around 30 years of age and Seymour has had a lot of bumps and bruises the past couple seasons. But given that he fills a major need - and that the Raiders recent history with first-round picks doesn't necessarily make losing one a terrible loss - it's probably a gamble worth taking. So I'd say it's a good move, though not one without substantial risks.

In general, Raider fans are all over the place on this, however, we have had one of the worst run defenses in the league for 6 years and running, so I give a slight edge to a positive move by Al.

          lol

it's moves like this that keep the Pats above the standings every year. Why couldn't we trade Chris Kelsay for Oakland's 1st round pick?

As a Jets fan, I am just pissed that psycho Al has assured the Pats of yet ANOTHER high first round pick. The rich get richer.

Note it's a 2011 draft pick so the Raiders have 2 seasons to get out of the cellar before we know where in the 1st it will be. Jave can hopefully chime in again on whether there's really any hope for improvement in that time.

I don't follow the Raiders so all I know is that their coaches are punching each other.

Until Oakland proves otherwise, they are the worst-run franchise in all of sports right now. Maybe, just maybe, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat them out, but the Pirates as starting to look like a franchise that knows what it's doing. Oakland just covers up smelly crap with smellier crap. How much longer can the crypt keeper keep going. Oakland fans have to wish that he'd just stay out of the way and let someone who knows about modern football fix things. That's not coming any time soon, i don't think.

just want to add. I'm not knocking the addition of Seymour. I'm knocking that Davis used a first next year to get him. The rest of the team may be so bad that they may not win 5 games. Why not wait a year and get a younger version of Seymour in the draft?

The ironic thing is, there is a really good chance Seymour won't even be there to help prevent that pick from being a high one.

I read earlier from Adam Schefter...
"But the most ominous note came from one exec who wrote, "Pats see 2011 lockout.""

I still don't understand why. Can someone clear that up? Seymour was a FA next year, so the money had little to do with that statement. How else could this trade be a sign of a lockout?

From what i understand its not a pick next year but in 2011. Still, the Raiders are gonna stink and it will be at least a top 10 pick.

When i first saw the trade i thought how the Patriots just skull fucked Al Davis. I just do not get the trade. The team is rebuilding, they are not on the verge of contending. The old man has lost his mind.

Worst division in football right now and they still have no chance of winning. San Diego has already clinched the division this year.

The Patriots probably didn't want to get rid of him but when a retard like Al Davis comes along and offers what he did you have to accept.
