  • I made this little chart up so i'd have an idea of where i'm going and what my future holds. Mogul doesn't do the greatest job of keeping you alert of exactly when a player becomes arbitration eligable so it's kind of hard to know exactly how long you have a guy locked in for but this a fairly close picture of who I'll have available and when.

    • Just wanted to make a post to point out some milestones that have occured in the past 2 seasons. I'll try to update them as they happen during the season this year and in the future.

      1993
Andre Dawson in Boston and Dale Murphy in Philly both hit their 400th home runs.
Roger Clemens of Boston and Curt Young of Oakland both threw no hitters.
Bob Tewksbury of St. Louis threw a perfect game.

      1994
John Smoltz of the Braves threw a no hitter.
Dave Winfield of the Rockies got his 3000th hit.

Going into 1995 here are the current active leaders in certain categories
      I luv British womenz.

      • APRIL 2ND: Marlins (0-0) At Braves (0-0)
Not a good start to the season as Tony Saunders doesn't make it thru the 4th inning, as he gave up 3 runs but threw almost 90 pitches. Ballard and Hillman weren't good out of the pen either and it didn't matter as Greg Maddux held us to 4 hits. Larkin and Justice each had 3 hits for the Braves.
Final Score: Braves 9 Marlins 0

        APRIL 3RD: Marlins (0-1) At Braves (1-0)
Now this is what i'm talkin about. We chased Glavine with 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Chuck Smith threw 7 innings of 2 run ball and Heredia and Assenmacher closed it out. Chad Curtis had 3 hits.
Final Score: Marlins 4 Braves 3

        APRIL 4TH: Marlins (1-1) At Braves (1-1)
Ryan Bowen struggles early, walking four and giving up 3 first inning runs. He gave up 5 thru 5 and our only production on the day came more from one wild Smoltz inning than anything we did as the Braves get a rather easy win. JT Snow had 2 of our 4 hits as we leave Atlanta with a series loss.
Final Score: Braves 6 Marlins 2

        • APRIL 5TH: Marlins (1-2) Vs Rockies (1-2)
Leftwich went 5 innings giving up 4 runs and an 18 year old Javier Vasquez made our offense look silly as we fell hard against a shitty team. Cordero had 2 hits.
Final Score: Rockies 7 Marlins 1

          APRIL 6TH: Marlins (1-3) Vs Rockies (2-2)
Van Egmond gives up 5 runs in 5 innings and knuckleballer Steve Sparks shuts us down. Bleh. Bad start man, bad start.
Goodwin, Cordero and Nilsson each had 2 hits.
Final Score: Rockies 5 Marlins 2

          APRIL 7TH: Marlins (1-4) Vs Rockies (3-2)
Man, what a game. Saunders went 7+ brilliant innings and left up 1-0. Assenmacher had his 2nd straight bad outing as he gave up an inherited runner to tie the game. Pete Walker working for the 3rd straight day allowed the go ahead run in the top of the ninth but Nilsson and Hulse both hit RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth off of Bill Wertz, the latter which scored the game winning run as we come from behind and maybe salvage our season. Goodwin had 2 hits. Saunders had 8k's and just 2 walks.
Final Score: Marlins 3 Rockies 2

          APRIL 8TH: Marlins (2-4) Vs Rockies (3-3)
Hells yeah! Chuck Smith throws 7 shutout innings, Ballard and Percival close it out with Troy earning his first save. Nilsson hits our first homer of the year and Rey Sanchez has 3 hits as we get a solid win.
Final Score: Marlins 3 Rockies 0

          • APRIL 9TH: Marlins (3-4) Vs Padres (3-3)
Ryan Bowen was dueling a 19 year old Tim Hudson, in fact Bowen had a no hitter into the 6th inning. He gave up a 2 run homer to Fred McGriff in the 7th and left down 2-1. Walker and Hillman would allow 5 ninth inning runs and it turned into a really dissapointing loss for us as I was hoping we could get to .500. Also wasted a really fine pitching effort.
Final Score: Padres 8 Marlins 3

            APRIL 10TH: Marlins (3-5) Vs Padres (4-3)
We jumped on Greg Harris for 4 early runs and Phil Leftwich left after 6+ with a 4-2 lead. Heredia gave up a 2 run homer in the top of the 8th and stayed tied 4-4 till Chad Curtis hit a pinch hit RBI single to win the game in the 11th. Percival threw 2 shutout innings. Cordero had 3 hits and 2 RBI as we won a game that would of killed us to lose. Nice.
Final Score: Marlins 5 Padres 4 (11 Innings)

            APRIL 11TH: Marlins (4-5) Vs Padres (4-4)
Van Egmond threw 7 innings and left with a 4-3 lead. It was 5-3 in the top of the 8th when Assenmacher and Heredia combined to blow the lead and we were tied at 5-5 but Nillson then blasted a homer to put us ahead and Heredia closed em out in the ninth. Phew, a couple of really exhillerating wins. Nilsson and Castilla homered, Cordero had 2 more hits and we're at .500.
Final Score: Marlins 6 Padres 5

            APRIL 11TH: INJURY NEWS
Chad Curtis bruised his spleen diving for a catch, he's gonna be out about a week. We're not gonna DL him though. Nunnally will likely get most of his at bats.

            APRIL 12TH: Marlins (5-5) Vs Padres (4-5)
Saunders would leave in the 6th with the bases loaded up 3-2. Pete Walker would allow all the runners to score and we could never mount a comeback as the Padres salvage a series tie. Damnit. Castilla had 3 hits and 2 RBI.
Final Score: Padres 6 Marlins 3
            I luv British womenz.

            • APRIL 13TH: Marlins (5-6) Vs Giants (4-5)
The old Chuck Smith returned as he didn't make it thru 4, giving up 8 runs. We just got shelacked and Russ Ortiz was brilliant against us.
Final Score: Giants 11 Marlins 0

              APRIL 14TH: Marlins (5-7) Vs Giants (5-5)
Total fuggin breakdown as Bowen was shitty, Assenmacher came in and was even more shitter yet. They scored 8 runs in the 5th inning and we just get stomped for the second straight day.
Final Score: Giants 12 Marlins 3

              APRIL 15TH: Marlins (5-8) Vs Giants (6-5)
We staked Leftwich to a 3-0 lead but he left after 6 down 4-3. A Dave Nilsson 2 run homer would give us the lead and Ballard and Percival would make it stand as we got a must win heading into our first off day of the season.
Final Score: Marlins 5 Giants 4

              APRIL 16TH: OFF DAY
Well, our team batting average is a league low .231 and our team ERA is a league high 5.57 so being only 2 games under .500 I guess isn't that bad. We need alot of our bats to wake up and wake up soon.
              I luv British womenz.

              • APRIL 17TH: Marlins (6-8) At Phillies (8-5)
Van Egmond was not good. He gave up 7 runs in 5 innings and left with us trailing 7-5 but we would rock the phillies pen for 7 runs in the late innings as our bats were alive all day en route to a nice win. Ballard and Hillman pitched great in relief against a predominatly lefty hitting Phillies lineup. Castilla had a homer and 3 RBI, Goodwin and Sanchez added 3 hits as we got our bats on.
Final Score: Marlins 12 Phillies 8

                APRIL 18TH: Marlins (7-8) At Phillies (8-6)
Saunders gave up 5 runs in 7 innings and left down 5-1 but we mounted a big comeback that included a 3 run homer from Castilla and it was tied at 5-5 going into the ninth but Walker let up a leadoff double and Percival allowed a single to score him as the Phillies grabbed a win. Grrr, .500 still eludes us!
Final Score: Phillies 6 Marlins 5

                APRIL 19TH: Marlins (7-9) At Phillies (9-6)
Chuck Smith left after 6 innings down 2-1 and we couldn't muster anything off of Tommy Green or the Phils bullpen. Tough end to a series that started on such a high note.
Final Score: Phillies 2 Marlins 1
                I luv British womenz.

                • APRIL 20TH: Marlins (7-10) At Dodgers (9-7)
Bowen gave up 5 runs over 6 innings and Pedro Astacio did a bit better as we drop the opener in LA. Castilla had a 2 run homer.
Final Score: Dodgers 7 Marlins 4

                  APRIL 21ST: Marlins (7-11) At Dodgers (10-7)
Welp, it's going in the crapper. Leftwich left after 5+ with a 3-2 lead but Heredia allowed a game tying homer to Jacob Brumfield in the 7th inning and it stayed that way till the 10th when Ballard, Walker and Percival allowed the game winning run to score. Goodwin, Snow and Curtis each had 2 hits.
Final Score: Dodgers 4 Marlins 3 (10 Innings)

                  APRIL 22ND: Marlins (7-12) At Dodgers (11-7)
Van Egmond gave up 6 runs in 6 plus innings and despite some late runs we just couldn't catch up. Curtis had 3 hits and Sanchez had 2 RBI.
Final Score: Dodgers 7 Marlins 5
                  I luv British womenz.

                  • APRIL 23RD: Marlins (7-13) Vs Mets (13-7)
Saunders went 6 innings giving up 3 runs and we trailed 3-2. We would score twice in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead but Assenmacher and Heredia allowed the tying run to score. We went to the 10th when Ballard gave up the go ahead run and we couldn't counter. Castilla and Cordero each had 3 hits.
Final Score: Mets 5 Marlins 4 (10 Innings)

                    APRIL 24TH: Marlins (7-14) Vs Mets (14-7)
Chuck Smith threw 7 innings of shutout ball as he outdueled Dwight Gooden and our pen held the lead. Curtis had a HR and 2 hits.
Final Score: Marlins 3 Mets 0

                    APRIL 24TH: INJURY NEWS
Terry Shumpert has a pulled hamstring and will miss about a week. We decide to DL him and call up SS Keith Kessinger.

                    APRIL 25TH: Marlins (8-14) Vs Mets (14-8)
Bowen gave up a run in 6 innings in a duel with Saberhagen that he left tied. Ballard gave up a run in the top of the 9th and that was that as they took 2 out of 3 from us in a series we needed to have.
Final Score: Mets 2 Marlins 1

                    APRIL 26TH: OFF DAY

Also, we moved to 12 pitchers and 13 regular players. We send C Nelson Santovenia to AAA and call up P Frank Seminara.

Percival gave up a pinch hit homer to Jeff Blauser in the bottom of the 9th to tie it but Kurt Stillwell came thru with a 2 out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to win it. Nilsson had a homer.

What can be said really. The $440,000 we made in April was mostly I believe due to the fact that played a ton of home games and attendance has yet to drop off so we kind of lucked out there.

Obviously not pleased with Goodwins struggles and Castilla and Nilsson continue to be .250 hitters with some power threat but not imposing much at all. Curtis, Sanchez and Cordero have all been pretty solid. Snow has been dissapointing big time.
