So watching baseball this week, I broke down and downloaded OOTP again and finally got it to work. I'm in my second year, just had the amateur draft, now there are 88 players on my rookie league team. Do I have to manually release every scrub? Throughout the year I have been gradually releasing players, but there are still way too many.Los Angeles Matadors AC West Champs: 2037

My interest weighs entirely on the "IFL bond" so I'd be interested depending on:
1) How many IFL GMs there are doing it
2) How much the game costs as I'd rarely, if ever, play solo.
3) The pace of the league.

It's getting close to gone.Originally posted by MrBigglesworthOr is everyone's enthusiasm for OOTP gone?
I'm afraid that we'd only end up with a handful of IFL guys. So we'd either have to have a really small league OR grab some outsiders."Larry Deasoooooooooooooooooon" -- Phil Jenkins

I've never done a baseball sim nor do I know how in-depth or "high maintenance" the game is so I'm hoping to hear some discussion really. With 162 games I'm not even sure how it works. I think I've heard of leagues doing upwards of 10 games per sim, which seems crazy to me but might not with a good argument behind it.
I think I'd probably like a similar time-frame as the IFL which seems to be about 2 seasons per year. But that also could change if I heard a good argument to the contrary.
What happens in a baseball off-season? A very low percentage of people end up in the majors, right? I would think that type of draft would go fast.

Not sure how important the OOTP offseason is, well compared to how critical it is in FOF anyways. In OOTP6.5 spring training consists of setting buttons and hitting a button. FOF equivelent of training camp. There is 6 weeks of the season right there cause after that button is hit it is time to play ball for real.
And yes a more deliberate pace would be good. Daily exports would be too much for me and I would not be able to participate. Twice weekly with maybe a weeks worth of games each, just typing off the top of my head, would get a season over in about 3 months.sigpic

Is there nothing to worry about equivalent to injuries in FOF? The same gameplan for games a week at a time isn't an issue?

OOTP, and baseball in general, isn't about gameplans. a 162 game season doesn't lend itself to a real slow, deliberate pace. 162 games is a looong time if you're out of the hunt by the All Star break.Originally posted by JesterBlazeIs there nothing to worry about equivalent to injuries in FOF? the way most every league is run is basically you set your lineups, sim the week(s), check the boxscores and adjust your lineup accordingly. you tweak your "gameplan" by adjusting the frequency of things like steals, intentional walks, throwing around stud hitters. that's more on a general level. what i would do "gameplan wise" would be if i knew i was gonna be facing a team with a Piazza-like catcher i would increase my steals attempts. vice versa if i was going up against a catcher with a great arm. general things like that. if FOF forces you to be more of a head coach than you prefer, OOTP is the opposite where you tend to fall on the GM side of the game more. you make your imprint by drafting, signing FAs and making key trades. your head coachness is really limited to setting the lineups and adjusting your team tendencies. there isn't any gameplanning like there is in FOF. thus, you're able to sim more games at a time.

I haven't played an online baseball league since Mogul 2000, when I led the Pasadena Yankees to the championship of the Mogul Master League! Back then we had to email in our lineups and the commish changed everything manually.
The offseason of baseball is just free agents and trades. The draft is traditionally held in June, but if we create our own league we could do anything. 100 game seasons, 8 team league, drafts in December, whatever. Full minor league systems, multiple foreign leagues, just majors, etc. I personally like as much depth as possible, but not sure how big those files would get in MP games.Los Angeles Matadors AC West Champs: 2037
