I was gonna say Mike Wallace. I wonder what his ratings would be or who a comparable IFL player is.

It's pretty rare Matt. If the cap is reduced quite a bit, I don't think it will be very realistic. Like others have said, I have players that I draft and have grown to really like, why should I be forced to release them by creating a new rule in the leagues 20th year?

It's realistic the way it is now?? Nobody worth a damn in F/A unless its a AWOL owner who just doesn't give a shit and lets guys hit F/A.

Free agency used to be loaded until Jim started toning down the amount of talent brought into the league via the draft. Since then FA has been a yawn fest.

I don't ever remember it being LOADED during my time here. Occasionally we had a pretty good player hit F/A due to owner error.

And I suppose you could add Revis to the list as well. And Jake Long, maybe Greg Jennings, maybe Wes Welker. FOF doesn't do a very good job at replicating NFL type free-agency. A lower salary cap would be one way to bring it into line with the NFL, but it wouldn't be perfect by any means.
Anyway, I completely understand that people don't want to let their star players that they've developed walk away in free agency. If if is more fun for most to keep it the way it is, that's cool.

I picked up Dean Trapp and Monty Wolmuth in FA this season. Who says we dont ever get quality FAs.

This isnt the NFL. It never will be. Despite anything anyone does.

I really enjoyed the last dozen years with greats like Sanford and Brick and Andrews and Singleton and Heath. I doubt I could have kept at least 3 of those with a reduced cap. I drafted all of them but Brick who I picked up in his 2nd year. Through a trade mind you.

This is why I like this game and this league. I picked them, I developed them, I reaped the benefits.

I will add one more thing.

The good players know how to manipulate the cap reduction. I mentioned earlier about keeping a QB-WR-WR-TE combo. And a bunch of minsal guys.
Well, Im not a financial guy (another reason Im against this), but there will be players that will figure a way around this. And they will dominate. And there will be different complaints about the crappy game that the guys who know how to play have an advantage.

And a question. When would this type of thing go into effect? Beez brought up the issue with his players. How many seasons would we have to get under a proposed reduction? Or would it start next season?

Considering at this point I'm "all-in" with a rebuild and coming expensive contracts to keep my young players, I am not for this, though I think I would have been before I decided to invest 100% in the draft. I hardly bid on FA's anymore as they have to contribute to my cohesion.

I like when I first joined this league I mentioned something about this and instantly got hated by the inner circle. But here we are years later talking about this very issue again. I guess it takes someone else bringing it up to get it some real attention.

They do sometimes. It's usually older guys, and when they do hit FA people get ridiculous with the offers they give. I think everyone here has seen it.

Again, there really aren't a plethora of good FAs available in the NFL either, and if you want to build your team via FA, you're doing it wrong.

                              any time man.

My honest opinion is I would like some kind of change. but not drastic. I want some better Free Agent pools. I dont want high turnover though. I want teams to be able to keep their stars together but have to make decisions on letting decent role players go. I want the cap to mean something strategy wise. I am also aware that some of the financials in game have been tweaked in the past to make big players want big contracts too.

If you want to talk realism... in real life players take salary cuts to stay together with their team to keep winning. Does this game take into account stuff like that? When I have a super star WR or QB and he is coming up for a later contract in his career you think he is gonna take a pay cut to keep my team together? Idk. I dont think we can have absolute realism.

I think the one thing that would really light a fire would be an upgrade to the game, reflecting the new rookie salary caps, a few engine tweaks, etc, but I doubt that's coming.

That being said, whatever side you're on, it's good to see everyone at least discussing things. Never hurts to have a dialog.
