    • There are times that overpaying is justified. Like in Fresno's case. It's only 2 years, he has virtually no one to resign this next year and still has $20 million in the bank. Bringing him in doesn't hurt unless we want to bring up that "cohesion" word again.

      • I've got $96 Million under the cap and 20 players signed. I could have given Maggerd $50 Million a year for the next 2 years and it wouldn't have hurt me one iota. Doomsdayers look at the Price tag and none of the variables.

I was going to make a comment like that but you put it eloquently. So I will just second your motion. It is all relative. Maggard is like the 7th best OLB in the whole league according to ratings. Value is subjective.

I think my concern will be if we seen 14 win teams with the cap space to throw $20m a year at him, the league would be in bigger trouble.

In Fresno's situation, all their big money guys are signed up to 2+ year deals, so like you said, he could throw away $40m. It's not like it goes in his personal bank account if he doesn't spend it. However he would have been dumb to go 3+ years on him because if 6.3 fixed cap issues, he would have been in a world of hurt when Schwartz, Winslett, Beauchamp, Shapiro, and Cooney are due to re-sign.

In 2 years, I highly doubt we'll see Fresno or many other teams with the cap space to throw around $20m a year at a guy.. well, maybe StL

Agreed I made the decision last offseason that I would get "my guys" installed and sacrafice cohesion. FWIW its not like Maggard will hurt Fresno front 7 cohesion

              • Why didn't I offer him $50M? I mean, realistically I think the idea of doing that held me back, just the cosmetics of it. When in truth there is no reason I shouldn't of.

                  • I've already seen what the future may hold in this patch. What Castillo wants to renegotiate is more in line with our free agent offers. I may have to trade him next year.
