It's just 8 millions over 3 years. I can easily work around that if he lose a leg in training camp. Half my team is gonna retire in the next 3 years. I have to act now. I'm not spending a lot when I have a young team. I prefer to play the young guys. But you have to spend money some day. 30 millions in cap space will not win any game for me.

I agree that we can't overpay for everybody, but not spending is not a good idea either.

Thanks for the update on the IFL stat site Matt.

FWIW the 40m over 2 years was modeled on the Cavenos contract. It was about what 20% more than the previous high bid, but 20m is guranteed. I think DG had 3y 36m offer Maggard knocked back. Warthogs don't draft till arse end of round 3 no way I'm getting an above average LB there so I over paid to get a guy I don't expect to be on the team in 4 years. Heck I've done it before. Some DL named McCarthy was a 1 year rental for the Mules. Anyways my thoughts on the offer

Kobeck. I think it was a good move for you. You don't have a linebacking corps to speak of and Maggard fills a big need. Plus you have 20 million still under the cap with no big stars to resign next year. 2 years from now, you'll get to make another decision and by then he's hitting year 9.

I just don't have to like it : ) I hope he breaks his leg.

look at the QB Richard contract. Undrafted QB is 7-19 over 9 years with 3 different teams and lands 3 year 27m contract

I wonder if DG forgot about his offer to Richard after signing Stanfield yesterday. That's a lot of cash given out to QB's

Plus he has Picante. Poor Picante he is the Dave Kreig of the IFL.

Good riddance to Xavier Armstrong. He turned down a 6 yr, $35 mil offer from me at the end of last season to sign with IWC for 3 yr, $13 mil in FA.....what a jerk!

At least I got Hutton to hopefully keep me steady at QB for a few years. I thought for sure I would lose out to Lansing - but he didn't up his offer for some reason - he's certainly got the coin.

nah. I just wanted some insurance through TC. Want to make sure Stanfield is motivated in TC instead of worrying about his wrangler commercials.

Sorry. I was thinking last night I came off like a total dick here...that wasn't my intention at all. I just don't think the dude is worth it. Looking at his stats throughout his career he's nothing special. He's an average linebacker.
I can see the contract to Kelso....the guy delivers every single year...What has Maggard done to warrant 20 mil?

Perhaps in the right system Maggard will be able to flourish. Perhaps Maggard makes a switch to MLB?

I think Maggard has some good years left and will have a lot of opportunity to justify his contract

                      • If I had signed him he was going to play MLB for me. But I actually reduced my offer for the last stage. But it didnt matter I wasnt near what he got.

This is turning into a great offseason so far. No complaints about the quality of FA. Only the spending. But you chalk that up to philosophy. Some guys like to spend, others dont. And the ones that dont will always be concerned about the dollars tossed around during FA.

                        Good stuff.

                          LOL - no offense taken

from a big picture prespective I agree with you, but I am looking at this from a Warthog view. Maggard has done nothing too earn the contract except that is what it took to get him too Fresno

                          • Yeah move Maggard to MLB. Olson has been solid for us at mlb after moving from slb. I might move olson back over there some as we got torched pretty good by opposing tes last year if I recall.

As a non-spender it's interesting to me that other non-spenders would be concerned with high contracts being handed out.

I simply establish a player worth IMO and throw out a contract offer. If I think a player's worth $10M/year and someone gets him for $11M/year then I'm thinking "Good, my competitor just made a $1M/year mistake that's going to have to be paid somewhere along the lines".

So open up your checkbooks, my IFL comrades! Don't pay attention to the salary cap or the man behind the giant curtain! Just focus on the new patch... players want more money... give it to them... ignore the consequences...
