I'll accept that we play on infant mode so long as when you don't succeed and leave the IFL you let everyone know that you couldn't compete at infant level.Originally posted by DakotaGeorge View PostIn short this is basically like Pre FA NFL. Everyone will keep all their players. The game's downfalls make this like infant mode. I believe some GMs would be in awe if they actually had to manage their cap here or make real decisions besides the game plan. Again I will vote for any rule that brings change and offers a solution to any of the forementioned problems in other threads.

I am all for:
1) Simple rules
2) Easy to enforce.
The problem with this rule is it fails #2. It would be a pain in the ass to make sure that each year of a contract is a min sal for those that enforce them. I think that the easiest rule to enforce is no renegs until the final year of their current deal. Sure you can make that huge offer, but you have to pay 90% of it.

First of all, I want to say that you did a good job finding a new way to handle this problem. I don't know if it could actually work. There's only one way to tell and it's by trying it.Originally posted by r00k View PostI have been thinking about the discussion in the other thread and have tried to come up with something new ... so I'll run this up the flagpole and see what reaction & critique you guys have. I think it is a pretty novel idea as I haven't seen this approach or discussion in any other leagues. And there might be good reason why it isn't, but in any case here goes.
1. During the off-season only, bids for free agents must reflect salaries that are not more than what is minimally required in the game and for each year of the term offered.
2. The signing bonus can be of any amount desired.
3. There is no limit as to the contract term of the offer.
This year, the minimum salaries (as established in the game) are:
2 year vet = $400k
3 year vet = $480k
4 year vet = $560k
5-7 year vet = $660k
8-10 year vet = $790
10+ year vet = $900k
Example: WR Joe Runningshoes 7 year vet. I want to offer this vet a two year contract.
Year 1: Salary = $660; Year 2 =$790; I then add a $2,000 bonus to complete my offer.
Discussion:
1. This system eliminates salary as decision maker for the game or at least puts all managers in the same place in regard to salary.
2. Hopefully, the game accurately differentiates the offers based on term, the amount of guaranteed bonus offered, and whatever intangible code might be hidden under the covers, i.e loyalty.
3. All contracts can be renegotiated the following year in the same manner as other owned players under contract. This will not reduce salary because it is already at minimum but may be desired in order to increase length of contract.
Tear it apart gentlemen ( and I use that word loosely!)
I agree that it wouldn't be easy to enforce, but at least it's only during free agency. It's not like an external cap that has to be enforce all year long.
The only thing we need is one or two guys looking at every contracts.
Some guys here don't like the fact that they can't renegociate players contract until the last year of their deal because it takes away some fun but with this kind of rule, it would limit the renegociation only for people you got from free agency during their initial contract. Other than that, players you resign and draft picks would be handled as usual.
- It limit teams from bidding crazy money on a player but a team with a lot of cap could do it anyway.
- Teams would've a lot of trouble renegociating a player one year after they signed him to save money
- It would create more dead cap space on the long run, so it would eat an part of the crazy amount of cap we have.
This rule is not too restrictive and could work. I like this idea
Sorry for the delay in my answer, my girlfriend just gave birth to our first child so I'm just back from the hospitalsigpic

I have been thinking about the no reneg until the last year of the contract. I am in 2 leagues that do that and like others have mentioned it has not really brought any change to the cap. We still have a ton of money. But, I am thinking what can happen for those GM's that love to accumulate tons of draft picks and rebuild it could bite you if you have mulitiple first rounders. Not being able to renegotiate until the end really takes out some of the management aspect. I think the real problem is not that we can renegotiate but that there is too much money available and there always will be because the financial system seems to broken.
Just a thought that came to me and I was curious what others thought. I could be wrong.
Another idea could be you cannot reneg until year 3 of a contract. That seems to be a good timeline that is similar to the NFL. Then you have a body of work for a player whether it is good or bad and can reneg accordingly.
