There is quite a few variables as is. Linemen intelligence, coach discipline, how much time spent at team functions at TC, line cohesion, etc.
How many more layers do you want?

sorry im not a code geek or i would...

and tell me how the situation and the penalty tie together and that the penalties are done like this...

if dice roll exceeds X then team is penalized....go to penalty chart...if 1-15 false start/offsides if 16-30 illegal shift if 31-40 offensive holding etc...sure the percentages probably equate to the percentage of penalties in the league but there is no correlation to game situation or conditions...just randomness...

and yep i do want more...i want penalties that make sense...more false starts for road teams in places where more fans in seats...more holding calls when teams have better pass rushing players...more defensive holding/interference when lesser CBs cover superior WRs...situational stuff...not random and random again...i want to know who commits the penalty so you can start working on playing time and even whether you sign a guy...its just one more stat that could have some real meaning but Jim has decided to make it a random irritant non-controlled factor...

Then I want my QB to have the ability to audible. I hate it when my team lines up and the defense is a Goal Line formation at mid field and I have a run called and I still run. A real QB would audible out of the run to a pass.

isn't there a "read defense" rating? if so, being able to "audible" should be tied to this rating, that'd be great. the higher the rating, the more likely your QB will audible out of a bad play destined to fail, otherwise known as a Heroes play.

of course, there's the whole "this defense was exported with the assumption that the offense - like all the previous gamelogs suggested - would be running a lot, but now the offense has changed things up and are passing on every down" drawback to the defensive AI. that will be really hard to overcome. i can set up a defense designed to stop you based off of what you've done in the past, but it'll mean nothing if you completely deviate from it. that's why i use 2 different gameplans, sometimes 3, for the Heroes on a week to week basis so that you can't gameplan around past tendencies. i think the only way around this would be to include a button on the defense gameplan that says "allow AI to reset gameplan at the half and make in-game changes based on the opposing offense's current tendencies?", which means i'd allow the AI to take over the gameplan and abandon what i've set up. that's probably be the only way to do it. but at least my defense would be reacting to what's currently going on the field and not lining up in a goal line defense even though the offense keeps coming out in Singelback-4 WR formation and throwing it long.

Read defense is more related towards being able to see double teams quicker...nothing more.

If there were audibles we wouldn't see the crap we see at the end of games. Though I have to admit our 2 min comeback looked nice this weekend...
