No one has commented on my idea of allowing team's to keep first stage rights to only one staff member/scout.
once the offer is made the declining budget doesnt impact you. so if in stage 1 in can offer 6 million and do if my number declines to a cap of 5M in stage 2 my offer of 6 million is still valid and unchanged. so in effect it doesnt change things.

if you really want the rule i would go with one person only as restricted. in essence im in favor of no rule or limiting it as much as possible.

I think a team should be allowed to retain their head coach or at least through the first stage. I really hate the team with the best stadium situation and makes the most money wins the staff hiring. At the very least I think each team should have the option of retaining 1 staff member/scout. In the nfl you don't see a fa bidding war for coaches. I do like the idea of coordinators can be taken if they are elevated to head coaches of another team.

If I were to vote I like the CFL rules for staff hiring.

I'm in favor of a staff hiring rule. In my other 2 leagues I'm stuck with the same shizz every damn year. I lose out on top notch staff members year after year. Here, I'm on the flip side and have the pick of the litter.

We'd just have to make sure people wouldn't select a top notch coordinator as a HC then hire a HC and off a coordinator job in the same export the following year.......if that makes any sense.

or why don't we make it so that if you currently have a staff member under contract, you can't hire someone new? that is, the only time you can bid on a staff member is if you have an opening. wouldn't that be easier?

maybe in a few cases but if teams want their coaches they renew their contract before it's up in the nfl. There is no fa for coaches in the nfl like we have in fof. Not very realistic and only rewards teams that are lucky enough to have a good stadium.

or not. its the declining value issue that bothers me. if you are a poor team you are going to get screwed if you need to find a new coach/scout. what happens is you are already hamstrung in week 1 because you are poor. in week 2 the AI reduces your cap even more so the guy that didnt get signed in week 1 or who waited for a second offer to come in is offered money by teams with higher spending limits...their offer doesnt go down in week 2 its still valid and based on the higher spending limit for week 1 so its a double whammy for the poor teams...trust me on this one...i have been trying to upgrade my staff talent in the CFL and cannot because of this rule...my team is poor (supposedly the teams that benefit from the rule) and the rule screws me...my comments are from experience with this type of rule and are not made in the abstract...i have similarly poor teams in other leagues and can still get decent coaching...what really hurts is not being to afford a good scout.

Jeff, I appreciate that post at FOFC about staff hiring. I hope (but doubt) that you'll have better luck than Quik when he posted essentially the same thing. The result then was a bunch of nimrods posting all their neato ideas for how Jim could upgrade the process if there's ever an FOF7. That, uh, doesn't help us much right now. Freakin' idiots.

Here's a link to a discussion at WOOF about some ideas. Maybe the online community could pull together a small dedicated group to work out a viable solution for this. I don't see the FOFC community in general being much help here.

I kind of remember his post now that I think about it. Thanks for the link to the WOOF thread. I'll have to weed through that when I get home from work.

I honestly think that a group of commishes should sit down and hammer out some ideas as to how to handle the current issues with the game. A committee that consists of a group that is dedicated to ensuring fairness and equality in the MP community.

i didnt know that fairness and equality was important....

in all seriousness where we arent reinventing the wheel we should review other league experiences...where something new is going down we are slow enough that some of this reneg rule stuff will start showing its result by the time we face the music..

The more I think about the CFL rule the more I dislike it. I think it'd be a jump from one dumb system to another dumb system even though the intentions of the second system are good.
