I don't think there should be rules for FA contracts as it relates to length. One rule which i think we should have is bonus money cannot exceed the base salary on 1 yr deals

Why just one-year deals? Didn't you know that two-year deals are the hottest thing right now?

that works too. Though I could sign all the top FA's to massive 1 yr deals and see where that gets me.

I like limiting the amount of years that can be offered, because I think it's more realistic (yeah, that is a pretty dumb argument). Just like the renegotiation logic, the free agency logic is flawed as well. Generallly speaking, total bonus should be king, not just average bonus per year. There are times where players may look for a bigger payday in their next contract, but that's rare in a sport like football. Usually getting 15 million in bonus over 5 years is better than 8 million in bonus over 2 years. And I'm not confident that FOF can determine which is the better contract.

I agree with that, because it's guaranteed and in your pocket. However, you'll prollly have a few guys who think that avg bonus money should trumph.

Is there a thread somewhere at FOFC or something that talks about standardizing out of game rules?
Funny, I don't recall 2k4 having this many "problems"

I like the staff hiring rule. If you limited to no lateral movement. That pretty much covers your bases.

-Lastly, I wouldn't mind adding a rule that would disallow trading a newly-signed unrestricted free agent until after cut day.

Im not in favor if this rule. Just because I dont like to be told who I can and cannot trade. That said. This is the best rule ive seen dealing with this issue.

For coaches, what about a bid thread outside the game engine that would allow a rich team to offer a good coach a load of money, but the current team has an ability to match...this worked well in OOTP, but might be a little too cumbersome given time element. Personally, I would like a bid system on all of the Free Agents, because I don't like the way the game arbitrarily signs people...but it would probably need a third party to run?

If I understand the current proposal correct. Coach1 would be a No Poaching stage. Coach 2 and 3 would be standard.

Would Coordinator promotions to HC be allowed in Coach1 ??

My personal opinion is that waiting till Coach3 to promote a coordinator is a much better option, especially if you promote a coordinator from within your own division - lol not that there is anyting wrong with that.

i commented on the issues with free agent 1 yr etc in the other thread. If we close what we percieve to be reneg hole in the AI we need to close the other negs holes. (easy Sui not those kind of holes needing plugged).

the coach rule is a bad one...the declining value to your offer hurts teams needing to acquire better staff/coaching. The 1st period being exclusive has the opposite impact in my opinion. If you do it it should not include scouts at all and have a promotion option for other teams to steal coordinators.

I saw that you weren't a big fan of it. The declining budget affects everyone though, so I don't quite understand how that becomes a problem. If a guy who a team wants to retain goes unsigned in the first stage, then that team's budget is going to decrease as well, right?

No one has commented on my idea of allowing team's to keep first stage rights to only one staff member/scout.
