I don't really agree that HA shouldn't have a chance to sign Colella. I really just wanted to fix the contract and give HA a warning. I don't think HA had terrible intentions much like I don't think Kobeck had bad intentions way back when. Making Colella a free agent is not going to be beneficial to HA - trust me. He can spin it that way if he wants to, but it will take a lofty contract to get the guy in the end. And he will have some competition.

Exactly. If you are unsure about something, definitely give me a shout. I will give you as concrete of an answer as I can.

That's sort of true. His contract wasn't voided, but I made sure you released him (or I made an export for you and released). I did that so he wouldn't be able to sign with you. I don't really want to boil up something from the past, but I had a bigger problem with what you did compared to what HA did.

There was no solution that even came close to fair in that instance. The only thing that could've been done was to re-do a staff hiring stage and that definitely would not have been fair to the guys that wrapped up their staff.

            sidebar:

BTW if you have any trade purposals in the future why don't you make them actual trade purposals instead blanket availability questions. You will know when the Mules are trying to trade a player by reading about it in the Trade forum. Now if you actually made an unsolicited trade purposal then that is different and welcomed, but you never do you just ask if "insert VG-Excellent player name here" is available.
asking if Player X is available is just that - an inquiry. if the person is not available or if you woudln't under any circumstances consider moving the player then it really doesn't make a difference if an offer is made, now is it? most other GMs will say "he could be, but it'd take a monster offer to get him". that's a response i'm looking for. then it's up to me to decide if i want to put the time in to see if a deal can be made. you're grasping at straws here.

and since when is doubling the asking bonus "breaking the rules"? yeah, i backloaded the contract, but up until last nite it didn't appear those were the kinds of deals that were accepted so i thought it was moot. when was the last time you offered a player over $30million in guaranteed money? put your balls on the table and let's see if you could ever pony up that kind of guaranteed money to someone. yeah, it was backloaded, but Collela wouldn't ever have seen that kind of bonus in any other circumstance.

trust me, i had no problems trading Collela if he didn't agree to something relatively favorable to the Heroes. that is, i was/am prepared for a scenario that doesn't have Collela on the Heroes, since as I explained before I won't sign the kind of deals that Jave loves to throw around. maybe for Caro, but not someone who hasn't complete 65 percent of his passes in any season. i lose out only in the sense that i don't get anything back for him if he signs with another team. and he just may well sign with someone else, because as a free agent i'm not going to all of a sudden give him the contract he was asking for originally. at the end of the day he likely will want a 5 year deal and ask for about $15-18million per year towards the end of the deal. that's not going to happen for us. so it's a win-lose situation, we win in the sense that we're released from that financial burden, we lose in the sense that we may wind up with nothing. considering the Heroes were picked to be playoff contenders, that's huge losing Collela.

also, as i said before, worst case scenario was we were not allowed to void the deal, we had to keep Collela and then resign him to a different deal, giving him an additional $17million in bonus to do so. so it's probably more of a win for us than a loss. aside from losing out the throwing the long ball, i really don't think Ike Jordan will do significantly worse. sometimes accuracy trumps arm strength.

                  sometimes.

You're a hoot. You could manage to tip the scales to your side even if a Dodge Truck was on the other.

So let me understand this. You won't pay the top level players top level money unless you find some way to manipulate the salary cap so they are forced into signing contracts that allow you to sign then cheaply, thus freeing up cap space to allow you to sign more top level players.
If you find out how to do that they are 31 NFL GM's that would love to talk to ya. Good luck with that!!

if Gilpin didn't magically retire this offseason i would've thought a 10 yr vet was a lock to remain in the league. now? not so much. Gilpin was a top 3 DE, if not the best DE, and retired out of the blue. sorry, not gonna pay Collela what he was asking for so he can pull a Ricky Williams on us.

The game gives back a significant amount of the signing bonus if a player retires early. How many years left on the contract determines the exact amount returned to the team. So, if he would retire, you wouldnt get a 30 million cap hit. It could, possibly, be a fraction of the 30 million.

You offered like $14 Million in the final season. You knew that was a fucked up contract to offer and you did it anyway. Don't blame the game, blame the playa, playa.

                              The game is gay though.

silly me, i didn't know the game accepted fucked up contacts. with all the nerds at FOFC who point out every small bug i would've thought this would be addressed if it was a prob. at what point do we know when the game is flawed and when the game is making a "thought out" decision?
