  • That's not like Kobeck to miss a pick. Hope everything is alright.

I am picking for the Mules now.

    • I'm looking to move down from 1.21 as per my thread in the trade block section so I'm going to wait for a while, especially since stillseekhim isn't on the forums anyway so the draft wouldn't be moving anywhere after me. If he comes on then I'll make a decision on someone.

I might be taking the QB so anyone that's expecting him to slide might want to consider trading up.

      • First of all I appologize to everyone for not having my list set up. Standard excuses apply - didn't think it would move so fast, ect ect. Making a list for 2.4 right now

Second thanks Cringer for making the pick, I know it is not something you perfer to do and it puts you in a potential bad spot. I appreciate it.

Third, I took my son to a cub scout meeting and when we got home we all watched RV, not that anyone cares, but I really thought I would be making a list that was 6 or so players long when I logged in at 10:30ish. Draft is really moving along this year

First round seemed like it was at a snail pace last year, so I guess I understand your thinking there.

No problem on making your pick, hope you like the guy. And yeah, no one llikes picking for someone else without instructions or a list. Atleast there was a good guy at a need spot for you.

                  • We didn't go into the draft looking for an OT, but the coaching staff had the opportunity to watch Denny over the past couple years, and he is 6'7", 310 lbs of run blocking mass. When he fell to us, with nobody on the board matching our neeeds, we had to take him.

I like it. Hard to turn down that kind of talent. I too love offensive lineman of all shapes and sizes

Do me a favor once he is on your team officially, check to see what it says his ratings would do if switched over to C. I considered taking him for that reason, but at 6'7" I figured he would be a freak of a C and maybe the coversion wouldn't go well. Usually tackles convert to anything well, but I just didn't want to risk it when more sure players where there.

Sure, I was thinking of trying him out there anyway. I was going to check him out at every position, actually, because I have contracts expiring all over the place.

                              • My thoughts on the first round:

                                1) WVA - LT Raymond Rodriguez - As much as I hate to say it, this was a great pick up for the Beasts. They still have an aging team, and getting an OL like Rodriguez is going to be a valuable asset in the long term. In the short term, he is a good blocker for Kersey.

                                2) MUR - CB - Jose Mangum - A great pick up for the Mules. It appears that the AC is going to be pass heavy for the next few years, and picking up the best DB in the draft is a great move. Mangum could have gone #2, and it still would have been a great pick up.

                                3) TUL - DE - Marshall Brummitt - The best DE in the draft goes at #6. I was surprise to see Brummitt fall to this spot, and he is an excellent fit for TUL. The "steal" of the draft, if you can consider a #6 pick a steal.

                                4) LRK - WLB Kim Cortez - This is a classic Kevin Greene type of backer, without the size. He is a beast coming off the edge, but doesn't hold up as well against the run. He is still solid against the run, just not at the same level as he is going after the passer. A good pickup at the 14 slot.

                                5) VAN and ORL - WLB Mike Barkley and Kendall Clark - These guys are virtual carbon copies of each other. All-around great LBs, but they lack size at the position. It is unclear whether either backer can make the switch to the SLB position. Even though they are good against the pass, will it matter if they are not on the field in passing situations?

                                6) BOS - DT Earl Hood - A great pick at #7. Someone was going to get the best value by picking the second DT off the board. With Hood next to Webb on that DL and Ames patrolling the secondary, Boston's defense is getting very scary, very fast.

                                7) CBA - FS Peter Boyer - This could easily wind up being the steal of the draft. I nearly took Boyer at 17, and opted for the position that was an immediate upgrade, rather than one a year or two down the road. Boyer can do it all, or could also be moved to CB.

                                8) HAR and VER - DE Mike McKenzie and Louie Doyle - Both of these pickups were quality moves in the later teens. Their skill sets are similar, but I opted to go with McKenzie due to his lower volatility. Doyle should be an excellent player, and could have a higher upside than McKenzie, but I think he will take a slight ratings hit. Still, getting the #2 and 3 DEs on the board in the late teens is a great move for both teams who needed help on the line.
