  • 2007 Pre-Season Discussion

Looking around the division there were some brutal games. I know people were playing their 4th string guys, but there were still some stunning things.

Sante was 5 of 14! I really hope this guy pans out, just not while he is in the division!

Outside of our long run, we only rushed for 3.9 YPC. Not a Hartford like performance if you ask me.

We had 3 drops in the game, hopefully this is a one game fluke.

Our OL performed well. Everyone that played on the OL that had at least 2 KROsgot at least 1 KRB. The worst KRB% was 33%. I'll take that any day.

Lawrence's offense looked damn impressive. They averaged 6.0 YPC rushing and 10.4 YPA passing!

It looks like the Pirates and Indians played in Cleveland...

We played really well, 338-203 in yardage, just couldn't punch it in, and gave up a TD after a fumble gave them a short field.

Ambrose Jones turned in a good game, 6 targets, 4 catches, 75 yards. He might have some magic left in him, we'll see.

Fortune had 2 rushes for 20 yards, then sprained his ankle.

Webb had 3 hurries, but no tackles.

My defense looked good. Of course we were playing backups and so was Texas. But anytime you get 10 hurries, 5 sacks, 3 INT's and 10 pass defensed you must be doing something right.

D'Arcy played almost the whole game, missed all of his KRBO's but didn't allow a sack. But he's a center. So what?

The real test is for right guard. I have a couple of young guys that are neck and neck for the starting job.

1(11) pick WR Sherman Jarvis had 8 catches for 131 yards and a TD. Had 2 scrubs throwing to him the whole time too.

I thought Jarvis was the best WR in the draft...I wish he would have fell.

My top two were Jarvis and Weaver I think. I figured that Jarvis wouldn't get to me at 1.12, and Weaver would be a reach there. Jarvis is a good fit in that Ogre offense. Thankfully, I don't have to play them for another 3 years.

MLB Chris Sanborn was on fire this game tackling everything that moved.

QB Dwight Burger wasn't very impressive. To add fuel to the fire, QB JB Fogerty played a terrific game.

My undrafted rookie RB Frank Bazzanka had a good game.

Can't wait for the real thing though

Well, my kicker had a good game, 4-4 and 1-1 XP.

Markel looked ok so far, 12-22, 157 yards, 7.1 avg.

Beckner had 5 catches for 67 yards, not too bad by my passing game considering the offensive line I put out there.

Regarding the 3 WR's, I thought Beckner was the best all around receiver, but I was leaning towards Field because of his volatility (I would have hated a bust, glad Beckner didn't). From what I remember, Beckner was fastest, or 2nd fastest, and the tallest.

Beckner sacrifices getting downfield and route running for his ability to avoid drops, which seems to be a weakness for Jarvis. That fits in with my system better, as i'm looking for more sure handed receivers. I don't like the lack of courage, but that wasn't a strong point for any of the three.

I'm not sure who the better overall receiver is, but I know Beckner is already at a disadvantage this season with Markel throwing to him opposed to Stclair. The other two should put up better numbers with Terrell and Caro.
