A breakout player is a player that hadnt done anything in the IFL, then finally has a great season. This is usually a younger player that finally hit his potential or a midlevel guy who just exploded all of a sudden.

A comeback player is a player that had played well, then didnt for a season or two, then came back with a good season. Maybe he got injured, or was considered too old, lost his starting job, whatever.

A comeback player award wasn't really feasible until this season, since there weren't prior seasons to 'comeback' to. But I'm not married to the idea, just a suggestion that I thought would be cool.

Humphrey should defintely get the breakout award. The numbers aren't spectacular, but he took an average offense and finally made it work. The reason we were tops in rushing all season was in part because Humphrey rushed for nearly 400 himself including 5 TDs on the ground you won't see in his passing stats. His completion percentage was an impressive 62.1, 2.5 better than last year. The big stat that stands out though is his increase in yardage. His rookie year he threw for 497 attempts and 2547 yards, both previous career highs. This year he threw only 452 attempts and shattered his yardage record with 3339 yards. His yards per attempt were over 2 yards larger in this year compared to his rookie year. Again, nothing spectacular, but definitely unexpected.

His real value shined on the field though in tight stretches. I was 2nd in the league in converting 3rd downs because of Humphrey's ability to scramble. While he's no Vick, his runs have made a difference in every game thanks to a nearly 5 yards per carry average.

There may be someone out there I'm overlooking, but without Humphrey playing like a true starting QB (finally), my team turned a 3-13 record into a 12-4 record with 21 of 22 starters returning.

Okay. I'd maybe pull for that award next year since the voting has already begun.

I think Wilford Timmerman is a bad example of a Comeback Player though.

Edit: I don't think he's that great of a candidate for breakout player either.

ST PoY Marquis Wolters only missed 1 kick all year

ORoY Otis Peterson led all rookie QB's with 16 TD's in 15 starts. Too bad for My Man Otis that the Mules FO had a messed up game plan installed for a fourth of the season (when OP threw 2Td's vs 11 INT's) Not expecting any Peterson votes but I gotta point out he had a decent rookie season.

DPoY Do I go with Gallup who had over 108 tackles at MLB taking advantage of Ash and Monroe. Or do I go with Ash and his 88t 35a 4.5Sacks and 16 hurries. NO I go with Zoomie Monroe who had 90t 40a 6.5Sacks and 15 hurries along with 8 blocked passes. Whatever success the Mules had on D is a tribute to Zoomie Monroe.

I think he would be a better candidate for breakout player if he picked up like 1,500+ rushing yards or something, but then again he did have 1,663 rushing+receiving yards which is a huge difference than his career so far..

            2003 - 911 yards
            2004 - 1,015 yards
            2005 - 777 yards
            2006 -1,663 yards

I think he's just more noticable because of his huge ratings but disappointing numbers until this season.

I'm not sure he's the best candidate though, haven't had a look at the other guys, but he definitely had a pretty big year finally.

One player ill mention for defensive player of the year is Stewart Lundquist good numbers for a DT at least. Though the way we've been playing on defense lately I wouldn't recommend anyone...

When you talk about the best players at their position, regardless of stats, they will be on teams who are still playing. Now, there is of coarse exceptations to this rule. If a guy busts his ass all year long on a team that blows ass, I am NOT discounting his stats. That shows me effort and desire, which is the prime thing I look for when making these votes.

For instance; you have 2 of the best QB's in the league, Hamilton and Booker. Anyone who makes their vote before the this game is played is simply discounting one of the most important factors regarding awards. You can throw for 6000 yards and 70 touchdowns, but if you cannot at least win a wildcard game, then your not as good as advertised. Bottom line.
I will go a step further. If you are talking about Player Of The Year............If you are not in the IFL bowl, then you shouldn't even be considered for POTY. To me, thats an easy decision. A TRUE POTY will lead his team, regardless of position, to the IFL bowl.

I didn't catch the due date for these awards, but I sure hope it's the week before the IFL bowl, because I cannot, in good faith, cast my votes untill I see the players who can truly play at their best, when it matters most.
Bullspit, you can't make your arguement purely on winning games in the playoffs---you've never been to the playoffs before this year and previously tried to pimp your players for this award.

I'm not saying Booker is MVP material as he's managed to take a step back this year with my run first approach BUT but still posted back-to-back record setting seasons and guided those Stallions to the playoffs a lot.

My defense collapsed after people saw that my front seven could be run on easily and my 7-2 start faded to a 9-7 finish. Even still, Booker did a helluva job to keep us in the hunt and I'm betting he'll post 300 yard 4TD game to remind you that he is still an elite passer.

Can we make it so that you need 4 years of experience to be a breakout player? And can we pimp our own players?
