My point is....if you think in the back of your head you are not going to keep a player(see Wayne Rogers), then why would you resign said player to a huge contract? And if your releasing or trading him because you cannot afford him, then why trade him for draft picks which you really cannot afford to sign either? Same thing with Rogers. Rather then resign and attempt to trade him, I needed the cap space and I couldn't afford the draft picks anyway(not to mention this draft blows ass), so it actually benefited me to just release him outright.

/shrug.......just my opinion. Not baggin on Vancouver, just suprised.

Was Connell re-signed by P. Luxx before he left, or did the new owner sign him before trading him.

Could have been a knee jerk reaction too...I know I did the same thing when I took over Dakota at the beginning. I saw somebody I didn't want to lose, but didn't look close enough at the financial figures.

At a closer inspection, Connell has not put up the kind of numbers that you expect from a high rated guy. the 1500+ yards are nice but only 11 TD's.

        different owner.

P Diddy signed Connell last year. New owner this year.

Still, I just don't understand this deal for Vancouver. He's the highest rated RB in the league and there were plenty of more options to go with

wow, that was about 200 words too long. Look at the transaction history, hombre. He didn't re-sign him - why would you assume that? I'd be all over that angle if that was the case.

Anyone remember what Jave got when he traded Connell? Guard Chad Jerome (rated around 65 at the time - random boom later on) and an old DE/DT in Lance Delano, and what a bust he ended up being. Oh yeah, Jave threw in a 2nd round pick.

yeah, not like you couldn't have traded him for picks in *next* year's draft or even 2 year's from now. i agree.

That's interesting. What did he have to trade to get the draft pick that he used to select Connell?

Reminds me of when I nearly traded Timmerman because of cap reasons. Hopefully this works out for you Richard. Young talented backs like Wes are real hard to come by.

(I say this knowing there is a chance Timmerman finishes his career somewhere other than Houston.. so my opinion doesn't mean much I suppose)
