That's a steal for the Heroes. Not only does Hell Atlantic get Gilpin, but he doesn't have to offer him an extension. Cydney wasted ~16 million dollars by extending him and trading him.
i woulda aquired Gilpin even if he was in the last year of his contract. upon seeing that he was resigned to quite a lengthy deal (with the base pay being undervalued per market standards) i pounced and didn't bat an eyelash when i was asked to throw in next season's 2nd and 3rd round picks. i wish Montreal the best of luck with the players they get from my picks, and hope they're as happy with those players as i am with Gilpin and Lor.
again, the Heroes will always go with the sure thing than go for the gamble. gambling is for nerdy internet poker players, a club that i am fortunately exlcuded from.
the only thing that sucks is that this woulda been a great chance to start drafting my own players and stocking the team with young guys i personally selected, but can't have it both ways.
so was i right, is this blockbuster deal not top 3 of all time here?

That's why I'm puzzled by the extension-n-trade. Just a horrible move. It's part of what got West Virginia in the mess that they are in now. It makes no sense. Guys have got to decide whether or not they're going to stick with a guy. You can't just throw away 16 million dollars like that. Just brutal.
I think the Heroes are a QB away from making any serious kind of splash.
I'm not sure how good Lor is, but I was considering Gilpin and just thought that two first round picks were not worth a guy that had a season ending injury last season and missed 10 games. If he plays a couple of full seasons, it's worth it, but he could also just as easily have a career ending injury.

He's a 78-rated left tackle in his 6th year. What would you give someone for 16 million dollars in cap money? I'd ask for a future first rounder (maybe more) or equivalent talent.
I don't like the sign and trade thing. I had a guy in another league dish out over $10m in bonus money and trade him in the same offseason. Poor cap management.

Knew I could count on you to like it!
That contract you had Gilpen signed to was phenomenol for his talent. You traded your best defensive weapon away and took a cap hit this year of over 5 million and next year for 12 million. You have to meet my O-line, which has been together for 5 years now with nothing to match up to them. This is a good thing.
And any running game you thought you had went out the door with Lor.
Wichita may be climbing out of the basement this year. . .

I should point out, for the record, and in a little bit of self defense, Gilpin was not resigned, he renegotiated. His contract length did not change, and under his previous contract I was still on the hook for 15 mil if traded. I took a chance on the negotiation, still didn't like my long term prospects (not enough haggling!), decided to bite the bullet. Make sense? Still does in my head.... ops:
