  • Houston Renegades

Houston Renegades have gone throwback. The Renegades original team colors and logo have been dusted off and the Renegade Cowboy has been retired. "We needed to separate ourselves from the Texas Trojans. Their team colors were almost identical to the Renegades and we needed to embrace our own identity." G.M. Hoosier Owens. Turqouise, Texas Orange, and white have replaced the silver, maroon, and black.

    2031 Draft Review

    1.9. DE Casey Coles, USC
    6-5, 281 lbs, 24 yrs old
    Low Volatility
    Need Scorecard
    35/52

A Fort Worth, Texas, native, Coles looks like the only player in the Houston draft worth a damn. At first blush he's underwhelming, but with solid future bars in Run D, Play Diagnosis, and Endurance, he could be a mainstay. Low Volatility can mean a creeper. We'll see.

    Starts at Left Defensive End.

I like old school...but there's just too many red white and blue teams out there. Of course the same could have been said for red and black.

I toyed with the San Antonio Riders logo and color scheme from the WLAF. Brown and Mustard Gold. Toyed with it...for a little bit.

            Renegades Roster Moves:

Houston has sent a fourth round pick to Vermont for running back Horace Bergmann (42/42). The former Florida Gator was signed by New Orleans as an undrafted free agent in 2027, and ranks 4th all time NO 100 Yards Rushing. Renegades needed a serviceable back and the fifth year pro was an upgrade over the backs on roster. He has excellent Speed to Outside and Endurance Bars.

Cornerback Amari Avalos has been picked up by Houston for a second round pick. The former Columbia Fire corner was a late first round draft pick out of North Carolina in 2028. He will be moved to right corner.

Avalos was a move made to shore up the secondary. Even though he's at odds with Renegade left corner Howie Oxarat, he takes over the starting right spot from 11 year pro Troy Vest. Vest will be moved to nickle and dime packages. Avalos joins former Tarheel team mate Marshall Diaz, a second year safety picked in the first round of the 2030 rookie draft.

"We have the beginnings of a nice secondary. And in a pass happy league, that's important." Cohesion is still a problem with the unit.

              2031 Renegades

The last winning season for Houston came in 2027 when the Renegades went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. You have to go back two years earlier to find Houston winning the AC South in 2025 with an 11-5 record, only to get kicked out by the hated Mules. So, what do we expect for this season?

Houston is the fourth oldest team in the league after cut down day, and our Team Cohesion ratings show that their is work to be done. Team Passing is at 7th best in the Imperial at 88 but that's the only bright spot. The other Cohesion ratings are average to bad. Power Ratings numbers puts us at 61 and the lower half of the league. The only team in the AC South with a lower rating is Murfreesboro as the once proud franchise has taken a dip with Arty Intel running the team. But, Houston's last season's 6-10 record looks to be within reach, and an 8-8 finish could be something to build on.

Out for Houston: C Randy Thrash (71/71) Strained Patellar Tendon

                Game 1 Results

Game MVP: Renegade WR Diego Griffith: 11-15 for 226 yards, 1 touchdown.

Houston trailed after the first half 10-3, but a flurry in the fourth netted 17 points and the Renegades outlasted the a.i. Mules. "Offensively we did okay, but with Thrash out our running game and qb protection broke down. You're not going to win many games giving up five sacks." G.M. Hoosier Owens.

A last second field goal secures the Renegades second straight win of the early season. Defensively Renegades forced 4 fumbles and recovered all four. Registered two sacks with no interceptions.

"I liked what I saw out there. A road win in the Imperial is always a good thing." Owens.

                    Game 3: Houston @ Columbia

Alltime series: Columbia leads 6 Games to 5
                    7-5 after this game.

                    Last Meeting: Week 5 2030 Columbia 34 Houston 9

                    Out for Houston:

C Randy Thrash (71/71), DE Casey Coles (35/52), DE Quentin Serbin (34/34),

Houston led in the fourth quarter but surrendered 10 points to the Fire and lose by seven. Columbia's defense sacked Renegade quarterback Harris 4 times, knocked him down three times, hurried him twice, and blocked one pass. Fire's defensive secondary registered one interception.

"Protection was key. Harris played damn well and threw for over 300 yards passing with a qb rating of 93.6. Thrash has been out since preseason and we need him healthy and in the starting lineup." G.M. Owens.

Houston still stands atop the AC South at 2-1 with the New Orleans Demon Deacons breathing down our necks.

Next up for Houston: The Chaos in Fresno.

                    Fresno is favored by two.

                      Game 4: Houston @ Fresno

Alltime series: Fresno leads 9 Games to 8
                      10-8 after the game results

                      Last Meeting: Week 3 2030 Houston 24 Fresno 6

Out for Houston: C Randy Thrash (71/71), DE Casey Coles (35/52), DE Quentin Serbin (34/34),

Player of the Game: QB Armijo, Fresno.

Fresno opened up a 9 -7 lead at half, and held on to win 24-21. Renegades got the ball with 49 seconds left in game at the 30, but a sack, a pass completed for negative yards, and an incomplete pass surrendered the ball on downs.

"Eight sacks on quarterback is unacceptable. Thrash has to get past this irritating injury and we need to make some changes on the o line and gameplanning." G.M. Owens.

Houston is now trailing New Orleans in the AC South after a three game road trip where the Renegades went 1-2.

Next up for Houston: home against the Anchorage Lynx.

                      Houston is favored by three.

Houston Wins Matchup With Anchorage, Loses Harris for
                        Four Weeks

Backup Asher Guts Out the Win Despite Knee Injury.

Starting quarterback Damon Harris went down with an elbow injury in the first quarter and backup quarterback Davidson guts out the win despite spraining his knee.

Anchorage led 16 to 10 at the two minute warning, but Asher drove the ball 74 yards, hitting wideout Meier for a 12 yard touchdown go ahead score.

Cornerback Troy Vest intercepted Anchorage's desperation heave at the buzzer to seal the win.

Houston leads the alltime series with Anchorage 13-5.

Next up: Divisional matchup with St. Louis. But...who will quarterback for Houston?

Yeah...I made the buttons to memorialize the history of the Renegades. Same nickname throughout our tenure in the Imperial, but three different logos.
