The Plan
New digs, new logo, new attitude in the mountains of Utah. I've got a nice amount of cap space and renewed vigor with the new game actually giving us defensively challenged GMs a chance!
I should have expected to see this team at about 8-wins coming off that 6-10 nose dive they took in 2025, but seeing my offense be so 'meh' when we needed it most was hard to watch.
8-8 could have easily been a 10 win season had my offense just been able to score points when we got to crunch time. So my primary objective this offseason is to add one or two talents to that side of the ball.
Additionally, I'd like to get to an elite level with this defense as that's always been my vision for SLC.--a dominating zone blitz scheme like the 70s-era Steelers that consistently makes opponents earn every yard against it. Real talk, my objective is to embarrass your passer--that's what I want to see in the box score; disruption/deviation from your game plan and a horrible stat line from your field general.
I figure if this group of no-names has been this effective running the system, adding some blue chip talent to the unit couldn't hurt.
Offseason Objectives:
1) Retain Staff
2) Resign key players
3) Acquire more talent
Needs:
Offense
RB1
TE1
WR2
FB
LG2
RG2
Defense
Witch (DE/WLB)
Bear(DE)
Linebacker
Bull (NT)
Nickel
2026 saw the Stallions return to being a little nasty on defense behind my new scheme. With rotational talent at the WLB/LE position, I squeezed 38 sacks + 71 hurries from some pretty average personnel and, despite my weekly bitching about the unit, it only allowed an average of 211 passing yards & 96 rushing yards per game.
While defense was not our problem, the system is being played without really good talents at both the the Bear and Witch positions. Additionally, I'd like another Linkletter at LB for the sake of flexibility in the Nickel and Dime packages or the occasional 4-3 look.
On offense, we were pretty one-dimensional and once teams took the pass away, our running game was being shouldered by a fumbling Catfish-castoff and a 7th round scat-back; it was quite frustrating to watch. "The Prophet" needs some help.

Coaching Staff Retained
I've often voiced my displeasure with coach Artie Lyle, so it might have surprised some to learn that I opted to retain him--well he's got awesome bars where they matter in this version!
DC Dusty Larouche looks to be exceptional at calling the defense so I'm very excited to see how the unit does this season.
New additions:
Asst. Coach:
Edward Cicci
Primary focus (Running Backs)
Great with young talent and scouting
Str. Coach
Willie Kemp
Strength Training beast
Early Free Agency
RB Daryl Wiggins acquired
I've got big plans for this offense. It will be a 3-4-5 WR "All-threat" attack grounded by a strong power running game (finesse running percentages on the form screens are reduced considerably).
Wiggins should be an excellent fit in this scheme as a runner however, I suspect his receiving skills are going to be what distinguishes him more here.
WR Clyde Abrams acquired
Brad Harris decided to hang up the cleats and this offense demands a capable Flanker -- drafting WRs gives me headaches so I went shopping for a scheme fit. Clyde Abrams is former first rounder that hasn't played up to his potential. He'll do as a flanker but I really think this could be our possession receiver. I've got four receivers that can win a 1-on-1 match up now.
FB Walter Oliver Signs
Oliver returns to block for a stud and for far less than he wanted when he was our starter -- humbled maybe?
DE Paul Lake Signs
Scheme fit aside, he's long in the tooth so I'm tempering my enthusiasm. He's the run stuffing Bear my scheme calls for -- the hope is that he gives us a bit more than that with his 87 hit rating and 95 play diagnosis.
LB Shaun Jefferson Signs
The aging vet hasn't much left in the tank but he won't be asked to play MLB here; his pass rushing skill gives us an upgrade over current Bandit Mickey Atkins who will not be retained.
LB Robert Schwab Signs
Schwab fits what we do and looks versatile enough to play all the LB positions. He's got great pedigree too having played in GEO, LRK and ORL. He'll replace Jamal Carr in the line-up.
LB Rickey Lowe Signs
With my acquisitions in the draft, I was going to pass on him but decided early morning to make one more offer for him and he signs! Veteran LB Jefferson took a hit on his conversion to WLB, Lowe didn't so we have our stop gap rusher on the roster now and he's a mentor which should bode well for OLB Richie Sangria.
CB Ray Olive Signs
We may still address the position in the draft but Olive gives me a press corner and secondary leader that can start while I groom a prospect.
WR Dana Capuco Signs
What was old is new again as Capuco returns to SLC to play SE2 for us. His role is purely depth but key due to concerns with Terrance Wiggins's annual knee tweaks.
FS Harry Roldan Signs
We cut him b/c we didn't think he was developing quickly enough, I'm correcting that mistake -- if he turns in a nice camp, he'll win the nickel position.
NT Vernon Pedersen Signs
He's old but I think I can squeeze more out of him than I could a rookie right now. He's not knocking Austin from the starting spot but he's a veteran presence I think we need.
Draft
1.16 - Thomas O'Bryan RDE
Size, strength, agility, and blazing speed off the edge; scouting staff says he's very underrated. I'm giddy that he looks to also be a big hitter with high play diag. He'll take snaps at DE / WLB for us.
2.15 - Rex Rodgers TE
Beer had me thinking Drake was still on the board when I took Rex (whew). He's likely not as good as his bars but he'll do nicely for us---this should complete the offensive retooling
3.23 - Richie Sangria OLB
You can never have enough pass rushers and this pick gives me the option of keeping top pick O'Bryan at his natural position while giving us a very gifted athlete at the Witch. My scouts say 'underrated', I say he's way better than advertised. Pulled the trigger earlier than I wanted to but I couldn't chance him not being there late in the 5th round and I didn't have a fourth round pick -- our new Antonio Tyler
5.16 - Herman Tosheff DB
Physical press corner with bars in the right places, nothing special here. System fit.
6.15 - Sean Wordehoff OG
I had to pass on 2 really good slot receivers in making this pick but I don't think I'd get a shot at a guard like this in late FA with all the spending I've done. Pick addresses a depth concern.
