Mired in mediocrity and the smog of Los Angeles, the Matadors Front Office is reevaluating the move to California.
"We've lowered prices, signed solid veteran free agents, developed stars of our own, and we can't get people in the stands. Winning helps, but a solid fan base helps foster a winning environment. And we don't have that." G.M. Hoosier Owens
Rumors within the organization have indicated that the Matadors are looking to return to Albequerque.
2024 Attendance: 29,600. That's down 8% from 2023.
Team Financials: We lost 68.9M last season, and 82M the season before. OUCH!!!
And we can't afford to compete in free agency when the team roster is always up against the salary cap wall.
Franchise Value: Second Worst in the league. Stadium is a 6; Roster 0; Support 0, Economy 70; and we're only worth 646M.
Roster: 26 on the roster with free agency and the draft looming. Except for Barlow and Mallard, we're blowing the team up.
Albequerque Matadors vs LA Matadors
In 14 seasons in LA, Matadors have won 78 games. That's a 5.5 wins per season average. And that includes ZERO playoff appearances. The best season in LA was in 2013 when the team went 9-7. Last season we missed the playoffs by one game, losing to eventual conference champion and division rival Fresno.
In the first 8 seasons in Albequerque, the Matadors won 66 games for an 8.25 per season win average. The best season was 2006 when Matadors went 12-4 and reached the Division Final.
"It's time to shake the Matadors free of a city that won't suport them, and return to our roots."
Owens.
