Matadors Future in Los Angeles in Doubt

Mired in mediocrity and the smog of Los Angeles, the Matadors Front Office is reevaluating the move to California.

"We've lowered prices, signed solid veteran free agents, developed stars of our own, and we can't get people in the stands. Winning helps, but a solid fan base helps foster a winning environment. And we don't have that." G.M. Hoosier Owens

Rumors within the organization have indicated that the Matadors are looking to return to Albequerque.

    2024 Attendance: 29,600. That's down 8% from 2023.

Team Financials: We lost 68.9M last season, and 82M the season before. OUCH!!!

And we can't afford to compete in free agency when the team roster is always up against the salary cap wall.

Franchise Value: Second Worst in the league. Stadium is a 6; Roster 0; Support 0, Economy 70; and we're only worth 646M.

Roster: 26 on the roster with free agency and the draft looming. Except for Barlow and Mallard, we're blowing the team up.

    Albequerque Matadors vs LA Matadors

In 14 seasons in LA, Matadors have won 78 games. That's a 5.5 wins per season average. And that includes ZERO playoff appearances. The best season in LA was in 2013 when the team went 9-7. Last season we missed the playoffs by one game, losing to eventual conference champion and division rival Fresno.

In the first 8 seasons in Albequerque, the Matadors won 66 games for an 8.25 per season win average. The best season was 2006 when Matadors went 12-4 and reached the Division Final.

"It's time to shake the Matadors free of a city that won't suport them, and return to our roots."

    Owens.

for giggles and grins I looked at the cities wanting a team and I would rank them like this

    Arizona
    Seattle
    San Antonio
    Honolulu
    Sarasota
    Miami

with Arizona and Seattle way ahead of the pack, and Arizona way ahead of Seattle

Yep Kobeck, there are better cities, but I've been thinking about returning the team to the root city. The team was very successful there, and call me an old romantic fart, it just feels like the right thing to do.

Think Oakland-Los Angeles-and back to Oakland again.

The only thing left for me to do would be to draft a kicker in the first round of the rookie draft, and I'll be the Al Davis of the Imperial League!

        No comb over though.

              Albuquerque.

That would be good if the Matadors moved back. However, isn't 70 for Economy one of the highest in the league? Or is it Stadiums that are mostly low?

I already claimed that role in last year's draft.

if i'd a had it to do over again I would have moved to Arizona instead of Carolina so that geographicall we'd make a little sense...but then again with a team in London it's bound to go awry eventually.

                  Matadors 2025 Rookie Draft

2.6. (via trade) LT B.J. Colon, Alabama
                  6-5, 316 lbs.
                  Average Volatility
                  Interveiwed: Hard 2 Read
                  Wants Winner: Strong

Right height and weight, and he's strong with 36 Bench Reps. We'll use him. Solid combine numbers. Forget the Sole, it doesn't count on linemen.

                    2.14. OG Darryl Weaver, Wisconsin
                    6-2, 297 lbs

                    Interviewed: Very Underrated
                    Wants Winner: Average
                    Affinity Team Leader

Small for a guard, but the guy's strong as heck, another o line rookie with 37 Bench Reps in the Combine. He'll get a look at center.

2.28. S Rickey Forbes, the Illini of Illinois
                      6-0, 206 lbs.
                      Very Low Volatility
                      Interviewed: V.O.

We need help at all defensive back slots, and he has an opportunity. A combine stud, his bars should be better than advertised.

3.7. OL Glen Nutile, Iowa State Cyclones

                        6-4, 314 lbs.
                        Low Volatility
                        Didn't Interview

One of the two rookie guards will be converted to center, and I think Nutile is the guy that'll transition well. His Combine numbers are above average for a center, and he's got some good height and weight. In game identifies center as a potential lateral move for him. We'll see.

3.17. TE Jay Bouse, Miami Ohio Redhawks

                          6-3, 244 lbs.
                          Interviewed: Nope
                          Low Volatility

Great Position Drill (40), great Speed (4.69 40), good Broadjump (40), and good Solevision (27) are the highlights. The other two TC scores are average, which is a good thing. They could''ve been below average. Static Bars in Strength... average, and BPA are average, and he looks like an average tight end.

                          Just average.

3.30. RB Bobby Conley, Kansas Jayhawks
                            5-9, 199 lbs.
                            Did Not Interview

Average combines with a great combine in Agility, and a slightly below average score in Position Drill. I drafted him for a wideout convert. If not, I need a backup running back that's not suffering from an anxiety attack like the last guy.
