Down here in Orlando we keep to ourselves. We don't boast about being the first franchise to win the IFL. We don't want to rub that in your faces. We have also found that we are sucking hind tit most of the time to the rest of the league. So, I am sure you are wondering what the hell is Orlando doing to compete with the Phantom's and the Bulldogs? I thought I would give you a sneak peek into our latest draft.
Here are some numbers for you. 237 and 250. What do they mean? That is the amount of times Ed 'Crazy Legs' Wilkins has been sacked and knocked down in the last 7 seasons. I don't think we can be successful unless Wilkins can throw for over a 60% completion rate and get his ass off the ground. So, with that in mind here is your Orlando Pirate Class of 2024.
1.12 Myron Cleevely LT
This is not a sexy pick, nor is it a fun pick. It is the pick that slaps you in the face and tells you to fix your crap. Cleevely is the dumbest guy on the Air Force football team. That makes him the smartest kid at your local junior college. However, he was the strongest kid in the entire draft. Not a road grader at LT but a bit undersized at 6'2" 287 with feet like a welter weight boxer. The kid can pass block. Any DE's that try that swim move crap will get canon balled by the Cleevely shiver. Strong and quick with smarts just north of the back woods of Kentucky. Hickson can now play as a true RT and Cleevely starts at left. It basically can fix a problem from day one. This is no Michael Oher feel good love fest, but it is a premiere LT in the making.
2.12 Bernard Rivers CB
Corner has been a sore spot in Orlando since Ponce de Leon went through here looking for the fountain of youth. Sorrell is an average at best CB and last year's Sedrick Evans is a work in progress. Bernard has that 'potential' quality. He flew under a radar a bit until he put up a very solid to great combine performance. At 6'0" 204 he will be a big corner that will push Sorrell and has a chance to take a spot opposite Evans.
3.12 Leland Prall FB
Orlando would like to run and pass protect. Cleevely helps us do one and Prall can help us do the other. In an age of passing and the fleet footed TE we decided to go retro and get a run blocking FB. He is really good at basically three things. Run blocking, catching and staying on the field. Enough said. Prall will allow Nixon to take shots from DB's instead of D linemen. Instant upgrade for us.
4.12 Leon Hedrick CB
Hmm, short and light at 5'8" 184. But, he is from Rutgers. That counts for something. Small school kid with a chip on his shoulder. Perfect nickel corner with big play ability. Reminds of a poor man's Terrell Buckley. I love the underdog from a top academic school.
5.12 Claude Pedersen WR
Another small school kid from Temple. He is the right height and weight at 6'0" 198 but missed the combine due to a scheduling snafu. Something about him screamed possession receiver to me. Stephenson is our big play outside threat and Hoffman at TE splits the seam. We don't need a star here just a guy that can catch and move the chains.
6.12 Scott Terramagra SS
We need a FS. Ok, maybe we need a SS too. Terramagra is another guy that we saw some value at in the 6th round. We will switch him to FS and see if that is the boost he needs. He is not exceptionally fast but he played in the Pac-12 and has the right physical qualities. More than likely he will start at FS barring some other windfall. Not bad being an afterthought in the 6th round and getting a shot to start in the IFL. He does have a knack for the INT which will hopefully translate to big boy ball.
7.12 Tito Woodson RB
Ray Nixon takes a pounding and has some injury issues. The addition of Cleevely LT and Prall FB will only help him, but Tito has a chance to add some sizzle. Tito never saw a hole he didn't....
Ok, let's be honest. Tito has no clue what a hole is in relation to the IFL. However, here at Orlando we won't ask Tito to do something that is outside his skill set. We want him to spell Ray 'Tricky Dick' Nixon on the occasional third down and run to the outside. If he can do that 40+ times and average over 4 yards a carry it is a win for us and an opportunity for Tito.
