1.4 Carolina Catfish: CB Robbie McGEE. Syracuse

Sorry JB, I disagree with your choice at 1.4, here's my take....

This is a milestone season for Argot's franchise.
The Reno Wolfpack are no more as Argot has shipped his team across the country to Charlotte.
New city, new name as we welcome the Carolina Catfish to their first IFL draft.
There is a hunger in Charlotte for their brand spanking new IFL franchise and the fan base is ravenous for all things Catfish. Whoever is selected as their no1 will see his jersey sales go through the roof.
With a high pick in the 2023 draft it's important Argot hits a home run and rides this wave of enthusiasm.

The team already has it's young franchise QB in Wesley May and recent seasons has seen the team quietly build up very impressive talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Argot would have wanted a top receiver or RB this high in the draft but as we've seen, there is a lack of offensive superstars in this class.
Could we see a jump up to grab Stavros?

In the end, I don't see argot drafting another monster for either line and with no offensive superman available, I see the Catfish grabbing a game changing corner to help ignite their fan base.
McGee may not be the pure cover throughbred that Larocque is but the Syracuse defender has an uncanny nack of finding the ball.
McGee is a pick machine and he will swing games.
The Catfish faithful are gonna love him.

1.5 Oakland Assassins: DE Matthew HARDY. Arizona State.

BFinno77's Oakland Assassins are at a crossroads.
With some aging stars, a crocked stud DT and a clutch of big names being allowed to hit free agency, it looks like the silver and black are taking stock and will be entering a period of rebuilding.
Likely to be picking high for the foreseeable future and with some large holes to fill in the roster, Oakland can afford to go BPA and a good place to start a rebuild is in the trenches.

LT Wally Guthrie will get his tires kicked but the run on defenders continues as Oakland go for an impact player.
Hardy would provide a seamless swap over as Ricky 'The Hitman' Doyle begins to plan his TV career post playing days.
With last years 1.11 pick DE Dean Walsh looking like a nice acquisition, Hardy would instantly bookend their D-line and possibly open up the possibility of Doyle hitting the trade block before he hits FA and whilst he still has high value.
This move makes sense and would further accelerate the Oakland rebuild.....food for thought?

1.6 Montreal Firebirds: DE J.C WAYNE. Ohio.

The Montreal Firebirds are somewhat in the doldrums as Chris Rex's team faces a puzzle with no obvious short term solution.
Bruce Cote is past the mid point of his career and is severly lacking in offensive weapons.
WR Deboer now in his 13th year as a pro, TE Archie Lake doesn't scare defenses anymore and that leaves RB Skip Banta.
Banta is a fine young runner but he can't carry the rock 30 times a game.
Where's the offensive production gonna come from?
If ever a team needed an offensive draft class, this was it!

As if that wasn't enough of a headache for Chris, he happens to be in an AC North division which is getting tougher by the day.
Wichita, Iowa and Cleveland are all winning teams with playoff caliber rosters.
Defensively the Firebirds have gotta try to work out how to stop these three offensive powerhouses.
Do they pack talent in the secondary to counter Perkins/Vaughn and Ouellette/Robinson/Diedrich or do they try and stuff Iowas run demon Junior Fulcher?
        Decisions Decisions.

With two 1st rd picks (1.6 and 1.23) Montreal might just have the required ammo to make a serious play at moving for RB Stavros.
The stud rusher would really bring an explosiveness back to the Firebirds.

But if they shy away from trading up and without top end offensive playmakers at this point in the draft, maybe Montreal will try to shore up their run and pass D in one?
DE Wayne would fill a glaring gap in the roster, will go a long way to stiffening the D against the likes of Fulcher and Graham and would also help a decent Firebirds secondary with some much needed pass rush.

Wayne posted some excellent combine scores and is the second highest rated defender behind Milnes.
He merits a high pick and Montreal can't afford to swing and miss.

I have to wait until he gets to 3.23

Seriously, I think all the projections so far are highly plausible. I haven't spent much time looking at the draft since I'm way down the chart but I wonder when the top 3 or so QBs will go. No outstanding ones but a few that seem to have some promise. I also think there are at least 2 top ten WRs.

The biggest reason I am not making a run at Stavos is that an RB is supposed to be the last piece of my rebuilding plan. He's about 3 years too early for me to take. The shelf life of RB's is just way too short.

I refuse too pay them anymore.

RBs are draft, use em till the rookie contract is up - rinse and repeat

I let Chapman and Johnston go. IIRC Johnston was under contract 1 last year when I traded him.

Chapman was asking and got crazy $s and he was arguably worth it.

Johnston was almost as good as Chapman

Will be interesting if Warthogs will be able too keep Kubis. Im thinking probably not
