WINDY CITY PRESS - Chicago's Trading Breakdown
Now that the main rush of the 2021 draft is over, and it appears that the Chicago Front Office is done wheeling and dealing. We figured now would be as good of time as ever to break down the trades made by the Crusaders this off-season.
In all the Crusaders front office made a total of 4 trades thus far, and in those trades the team lost 3 key players, 3 role players, 4 Chicago draft picks, and 2 picks acquired in other trades. In return the team picked up 5 players, 9 draft picks (including 4 1st - with one traded). Now to take a look at each deal...
The first trade was with Iceman's former team Los Angeles in sending a 2022 fifth round selection for QB Mack Janis.
The second trade was with Houston which was considered by many as a major move on behalf of Chicago in showing that they were really looking to rebuild. Chicago sent former 1st round selection Karl Negrete, OLB Wade Robbins, ILB Wendall Porter, and S Adrian Janes to Houston for 2 1st rounders, 2nd rounder, future 4th rounder and OL Gino Newsome.
In trade three, announced almost immediately after the Houston Trade, Chicago sent WR Corwin Springs, T Charlie Rivera, Houston's 2022 first, 3.23 (acquired in a trade last season), 2023 2nd rounder, and 2022 4th rounder to Fresno for T Shaun Cunningham, RB Gerald Johnstone, CB Robert Moss, and a future 7th rounder.
And in their final trade, Chicago traded down with another former Iceman team and acquired 2 1st and 2 2nds from Georgia (aka Columbus Fire) for Chicago 4th overall selection in this years draft.
