It was very clear what the Wolfpack needed going into the draft. They needed a pass rushing Outside Linebacker, a cover Corner, and a speedy Wide Receiver. As they watched each of these come off the board they finally chose an Offensive Guard with pick 1.16. Recent banter on the teams website is heated:
Wolfboy613: What the *%%#? I'm tired of watching this mediocre team. They should have traded up to get Swift. I don't care if they would have given up 6 draft picks to do it...Argot can't pick his own %$%^^!
RFootballer: Move to Carolina already! I'm done buying season tickets. Look Argot! Just bought me a new SLC jersey!!!
PackRG8: Dudes! Get somebody for McNeil to throw to already! Geez!!!
RenoPackWife: Thank you Argot! I get my husband back again. Don't let the door hit your #$%& on the way out to Carolina!
Despite the criticsm, GM Argot stated, "We have holes everywhere. It's been my experience that when rebuilding, the offensive line is the best place to start. Clark was the best player on our board. We thought about trading down and picking up Kemp, or Flannery. But it looks like they would have been gone as well if we would have moved down to where we thought we could get a deal done. Believe me, this wasn't the plan I had going in, just happened that there was a run on all of our position needs and didn't feel comfortable that we would get Clark's value by trading down. Fletcher will be a great mentor to Clark, and Umenyiora could use a blow here and there. I feel very comfortable with our pick.
Doug Clark is 6'3, 331 lbs. and had a terrific combine. He played 4 years as a Rainbow Warrior in Hawaii and the only concern is that he has difficulty picking up complex blocking schemes and can be fooled easily. He relies alot on his pure athleticism.
