  • Matoadors Draft: Ole In Old LA!

1.14. SE Frankie Shields, Oregon State
    6-1, 200 lbs.
Did Not Interview (why, I'll never know)
    Projected: 15/69

We made a slight goof in the offseason by letting two of our best receivers go to free agency, and we lost both. Now, I don't think either one were worth the mega bucks I would have had to spend to keep them, and I don't think they're worth the money that was thrown at them, so it isn't a big deal. This pick starts to correct that slight ommission.
Shields is a nice sized split end with good speed and good hands. Throw in his Punt return ability and Special Teams bar, and he's a no brainer. At first the Stelmack identified a problem with a potential conflict, but after double checking the numbers, we were off on one team leader. Fixed that and the conflict disappeared.

2.13. CB Horace Wesley, Central Florida
    5'9" 185 lbs.
    Interviewed: Hard 2 Read
(conflicted with team leader...forgot to adjust the affinities in the DA). Doh...

A tad short, but the guy is an interception machine. He'll play right corner for us, and eventually may be relegated to nicklel and dime duties only.

            2.29. WR Rondell Lee, Iowa
            6-0, 199 lbs.
            Interviewed: very underrated

He's a little light, but I like the kids hands and his guts. I think he's the consumate possession receiver and I'm hoping he'll be a nice third option in the three, four, and five wideout sets.
Stelmack thinks his avoid drops ratings will take a hit, but I'm gambling that very underrated thing is legit and it doesn't take that big of a hit.

I think Lee's avoid drops rating will be in the 25-30 range, but maybe the VU will bump it up a little, hopefully it works that way. I must admit I never really understood the scout impressions

First of all, no way that WR in the picture is named "Rondell"...

Matter of fact, I think the WR pictures are reversed.

                  3.16. CB Larry Horn, Georgia
                  5-10, 187 lbs.
                  Did Not Interview

The guy looks like a solid corner for years to come and I think he'll be better than the other guy I drafted at the same position. It's all good, we need to get some young guys for the nickel and to add depth, so I'll take a good shot at him.
I like his run d, and his m2man looks solid, as is his bump n run. Zone, not so much, but then we try to stay out of the zone as much as possible.

Horn looks like a very solid player. I think he's a good pickup.

Great presentation of your picks, especially with the pictures ;-)
