  • 2019 Not-my-team, I'm lookin' at YOU!

The off-season is a time for hope for all. Every team in the league thinks the moves they make will put their team over a certain hump and into the next tier of IFL power rankings.

As GMs... and simply human... it feels good to be noticed in a positive direction. So I propose this thread to post your public appreciation for a 2018 non-playoff team that catches your attention. I've chosen one from each Conference.

Wichita Outlaws: The Brit's mark will be felt in 2019! Wichita has a bona-fide IFL talent leading both sides of the ball and the freedom to use the power value of 1.1 to shore up multiple areas. Multiple press releases make this an easy team to follow so they shouldn't sneak up on anyone. It might take until 2020 for this off-season's moves to do the trick but this is the final foundation to their post-season future.

    Wichita 2019 prediction: +5 to 7-9

Orlando Pirates: I can say from 2 games/year that Wilkins is a crafty-ass IFL quarterback! Though it's taken many seasons this league better get used to Orlando in the post-season yearly again. The one thing going against them right now is that their few holes are at prime positions so nabbing them later in drafts is almost impossible. Nonetheless they have enough talent on their roster right now that player progression/cohesion alone will make them a worthy 2019 adversary. Put another great draft behind them and the foundation is set for decade-long success!

Orlando 2019 prediction: 10-6, NC Wild Card

What do these teams have in common? The 1.1 QB selection screams out. Fellow GMs without a QB take notice and do what it takes to get your man. IFL QBs are retiring faster than they're coming into the league and the power of the position is only going to grow in coming seasons.

    So whom do you like?

        St.Louis Cardinals

You can’t be bad for this long and have nothing positive to show for it. Tim Austin is gone, but his curse remains. Norman Barlow is doing everything he can do dispel the damn thing. After trading away some picks to acquire Barlow, the Cards actually had a full arsenal of their own picks to use last year. They used them wisely. The Cards have what appears to be a team changing draft. They got a number of solid players who are “starter” material. Add that to the drafts from previous years where it looks like they were able to get some mid-level starter/backup type players. The foundation is building in St.Louis. Add the 2nd overall pick in this years draft to the mix and we expect to see an impact player added to the offense. If the right guy isn’t there, don’t be surprised to see the cards trade down a little to nab extra picks and some defensive studs. The cards won’t be necessarily ready this year, but they are continuing to do the right things to be successful. 3 wins in 2018 should be doubled in 2019. 6-10 record for the Cards

        Norfolk Vipers
Norfolk was simply the best team in the IFL’s regular season. They have everything set up for another run in 2019. The issue for the Vipers is how they will put the tragedy of 2018 behind them. Losing Cavazos in the playoff game against the Beasts was a huge blow against the vipers morale. It was also a huge boost for West Virginia. With these 2 teams set to duke it out again for AC East supremacy, the Vipers must put the past in its place and place for today. They have draft picks and cap flexibility to make a move if they so choose to. Let’s wait and see what these Vipers do in the offseason and see how that carries out to the regular season. My prediction is 12-4 and a division title

        Fresno Warthogs
Name the 1 team that has yet to make the playoffs. You’re right!!!! Name the best QB in terms of talent? You’re right!!! Fresno has been through a lot in its tenure in the IFL. Fortunes were thought to be turning when the Warthogs(Heroes) selected Schwartz 1st overall back in 2014. Yes folks, it’s been that long. For 5 years Schwartz has been in the league and has yet to register 1 4000yd season, over 25 TD’s, and has only 8 300yd passing games. Schwartz needs help. That’s it. His new RB was drafted last year. His security blanket was also drafted last year. His offensive line is one of the bests in the league. What else does the man need? He needs some WR’s to throw the ball to. The Warthogs may want to trade some of their picks to try to acquire an existing threat at WR rather than settling for someone who might fall to them in the draft. I’m watching what they do today that will help them tomorrow. It’s time for the Warthogs to get going. Last year’s record 10-6. This year’s record..........10-6 BUT I think they will get a wildcard birth.

The Tim Austin trade is an amazing thing. You can look at 2 teams and see their futures in one trade. Vaulted Tulsa and sunk St louis.

            Iowa City Snipe Hunters

This team is in a tough division. They are a couple players away from capturing their division. If they draft well and make a couple good signings, I think they will make strides towards winning the division. They have wild card ability now.

            Reno Wolfpack

This team is on the verge of taking over the NC West. A few positions need to be addressed. A good offseason will go a long way to taking care of those needs. The NC West is a winnable division. A very solid division, but no true dynamite teams. Reno could become that.

To be fair, bad drafts have sunk me more than that trade. Don't confuse my offseason enthusiasm with competence.

We must've been drinking the same Kardinal Kool-Aid regarding your draftees cause there were plenty of times I thought you had a solid draft of late rounders and then a couple seasons later your roster was empty again.

As for the Warthogs situation. Fresno was in way worse shape than the hole I made running the Mules into the ground the first few years in the IFL. The Fresno D was a total mess, not sure if anyone is left, well I think that FS remains, but the D was basically of zero value and HA did not value the draft so there was hardly anything there either. It has taken a while just too get the sandbox back full so too speak. Toss in that the AFCW is a better division, top too bottom, than the AFCS (currently anyways back in the day ST.L and Lou/Hou were as good as the Lynx and Seals, but now the AFCS is the Mules too loose every year)

That is the long version of it has taken me longer to restock in Fresno than in Murfreesboro because the situation was way uglier in Fresno.

AFWIW Schwartz is all that and a bag of chips - lol
