Does this week provide us with a preview of the conference championship games?
Well the season still has 5 more weeks and the conference championship games are a long way off. Still the Montreal at Norfolk game and Pennsylvania at Newark game has four pedigree candidates that could easily meet again in those championship games.
Montreal (8-3) at Norfolk (10-1)
 Montreal’s primary strength lies in its defense which is tied for first in points allowed. This is no accident; the Firebirds are #1 in rushing yards allowed, #3 in passing yards allowed and again #1 in total yards allowed.
 Norfolk, on the other hand, will be bringing an offense that is scoring the 2nd highest points per game with a devastating running and passing attack. This could be the Battle of the Buldge when the Norfolk offense is on the field with the Montreal defense.
 Looking on the other side of the ball when Montreal’s offense faces Norfolk’s defense, it seems (at least on paper) that Montreal’s offense is not a prolific as the Vipers and the Firebirds will have to up its game against a Norfolk defense that is rated 6th for total yards against and 4th for total points against. Turnover margin also favors the Vipers as they are tied for 2nd in the league. Since the Vipers will be playing at home, it looks to be a tall order for the Firebirds to pull off the upset.
Pennsylvania (9-2) at Newark (7-4)
 Everyone thinks that Lions strength is Mr. Hamilton at quarterback. Well, he is one of the reasons for the Lions success, but it our opinion that the defense is what makes this team hum. It is the the Lions who share the lead with Montreal for first in points allowed. Pennsylvania is #1 in total yards allowed, and boasts to limit opponent QB to the lowest rating in the league (thys 1st in lowest passing yards allowed).
 Newark, on the other hand, has the #1 rated QB in Dwight Burger complemented by the # 1 rushing attack per game. This combination of talent produces the third highest scoring offense. Like the previous game, this looks to be another Battle of the Bulge when the Newark offense faces the Pennsylvania defense.
 Looking on the other side of the ball, Newark has given up some points this year but has been pretty stingy on giving up yardage. Pennsylvania's Hamilton slings the #1 passing attack in the league … so can the Newark defense nut up and help their teammates on offense control the clock. If they don’t, the day will belong to the Lions despite it being played in Newark.
OTHER GREAT GAMES ….
Oakland at Tulsa … a must game for Oakland to stay with Vancouver, a must game for Tulsa for a potential bye
Portland at Murfreesboro … a must game for Portland
Reno at Georgia … both teams still in the hunt
Vermont at Vancouver … Vancouver, now on top, will nees to win to stay
West Virginia at Anchorage … WV looking for Norfolk to falter; a loss shatters Anchorage’s post season hopes
