  • Roderick "Bake" Amos: Best draft pick ever???

I've often pointed out that he was a great pick at 3.32 but his recent boom to 80 OVR at the games most important position has me wondering if he's the best pick in IFL history.

Some more that come to mind are:
Pittsburgh's DE in the 5th (?) that boomed to 70ish. Drafted somewhere in the early years.
SLCs Edwards, QB in the mid-70's and drafted in the 4th or 5th if I'm correct.
Many IFL 7th rounders who had excellent careers and whose contributions/round should be taken into perspective.

Post your opinion or deserving player!!

    *******

I often feel the need to point out that Suicane was also targeting Amos and lost him by a mere 2 slot luck of the draw. "Bazooka" is an OK consolation prize... if you're into quarterbacks and all that Rah-Rah.

Just a quick glance...and I'm not even finished, but J.B. "The Magician" Fogarty is 64/64, in his 13th year he has over 30,000 yards passing, a 4 time winner of the 2 mile club, and an 88 Career QB rating. Is currently listed with a franchise tag and was drafted by Newark in the 7th round...24th pick... wow....

stole the words from my mouth!!

wasn't sure what I had in him. I ended up trading him for more of the sure thing in Ruben Sante. I wish I'd had been more patient. I'll take credit for drafting him though

I was wondering what you traded him away for....as I was looking through draft positions it was interesting to see the nice picks gotten late in the draft. Though on average, most teams have more 1st rounders than any other round on their roster, after the first round, their is a pretty even number of players on the rosters selected from each round. And...of those 1st rounders, some of them are veterans who are mentors only and not what they once was.

Are you saying NON first rounders? Calling Amos THE best pick in IFL history....I would say Hamilton is a slam dunk for that. But since he was picked 1st overall I'm guessing your not referring to 1st rounders?

That Fogarty was like a 72/72 last year i believe. He took a little hit this year.

Fogarty was a great young guy who was only like a 9/59 or something when I had him. I had a man crush on Burger and I knew that only one of them was going to be the guy. I made a rash decision and traded Scott Nelson thinking that I would be ok. Burger played and was really really bad. I freaked out and thought I needed a starting QB ASAP. Sante was underwhelming in Boston, so it was a quick deal.

                  the rest is history.

Fogarty was able to develop in Boston. Burger was able to develop in Newark.

                  the tale of 2 QB's

Yea I think his wording was off a bit. I think he was talking about best value for picks in later rounds. ie, the Tom Brady award.

Right now I think Fogarty is leading the pack for that award. That's quite a career for a 7th round pick

Edward Jacobs QB (4-8 ) is rated 74/74 and hit 30k yards passing with a career 92.8 rating

(going through the list, I just noticed Virgil isn't retired yet, holy shit Favre. I wonder if he sends his dick pics to sideline reporters too)

Rueben Caffrey WR (5-17), not sure his ratings, but he had a great career at WR. 10k yards, 63 TDs (also drafted by NWK)

Gino Markel WR (7-8 ), rated 52/52 at 13 years, but had a pretty good career for himself at 9k yards, 60 TDs (also drafted by NWK.. jk)

Sedrick Vance MLB (6-23), rated 40/40, I don't know if his ratings have been that poor but 1,200 tackles, 12 sacks, and 25 picks is a solid career for a 6th rounder

KC Cajigal DE (4-18 ) 78.5 career sacks, one of the all-time leaders

Jeremy Ellison DE (6-14) horrible ratings now in 13th year, but 67.5 career sacks

Neal Ferguson CB (5-9) another with horrible ratings now, but had 46 career picks putting him 4th all time.

                    ---

Amos is certainly up there, his ratings are extremely good, and should be one of the best picks for the "Tom Brady Award" if he has a lengthy career with Lawrence

J.B. hands down. I didn't draft him, but he was rated in the 70's for much of his career in Boston. Not bad for a guy who almost was Mr. Irrelevant.

That's right for a while Newark seemed to get a serious boom in the late round like every other year.

I think I traded a first rounder for Caffery. I never could get solid numbers from him. I can only imagine what he would have done if he had not been stuck in Orlando for 4 years.

I guess if late round draft picks is the standard I will toss out my FS Conrad de Marco. Chosen in the 7th round of the 2013 draft, he has started 73 out of 80 games, with 18 interceptions, with a career 80.6 Pass defense %. Doubt he will ever garner any awards or pro bowls, but not bad for a 7th round pick.
