Recap of last nights first episode of HBO's Hard Knocks.
(This episode mainly dealt with the Veterans, and their hopes and fears... pre-camp.)
- Head coach Brent Bingham was incredulous that the team was looking to possibly replace him in the offseason. GM Chris Rex blew it off, saying it was a 'Misunderstand', and their relationship was '...fine'.
- Running Back Bobby 'Ozzy' Osbourne, a shy person by nature, seemed quieter and more intense than usual. He confessed that it's been hard living in the shadows of other Running Backs, simply because he doesn't self promote. His thick skin seems to be fading. "If I didn't miss the equivalent of a whole season, I might actual be the all time leader in total yards from scrimmage' he muses at one point in the episode. He also finds it harder and harder to keep up with his younger teamates every year. He wondered aloud how much longer he has in this league. "It's a young man's game, especially at running back..."
- QB Bruce Cote is still dealing with criticism that he choked in the big game. He seemed very bothered by people who insist that his relationship with Pam Anderson was the cause of his 'Bowl Game Distraction'. The Wiley Cote also side stepped questions about his 'supposed' relationship with Teen Actress Amanda Cosgrove.
- WR Allan Shahade corrected his coaches multiple times by pointing out his name was pronounced 'Shah-HAY-Dee'.
- Backup QB Wally Covinton is feeling the heat, as the F-Birds have invited an unprecedented 29 Quarterbacks to training camp.
- Last years 'First Round Pick', the traded-for WR Jermaine Deboer, gives himself sole credit for helping the F-Birds get to the World Bowl. His teamates laughed him off, but he seemed dead serious.
- Linebackers Claymore Bradbury and Roger Delcorio, longtime backbones of the F-Birds defense, talked about seeing the writing on the wall as their playing days wind down. The F-Birds have spent top picks the last 2 seasons on Linebackers, and it's not hard to figure out that they're starting to plan for life after these 2 stalwarts. These two have become best friends, and the camera followed them on a small fishing row-boat.
- Speaking of Linebackers, last years top draft pick Rico 'Blitz' Krieg was wondering out loud if the coaching staff would finally let him wreak havok as he once did in college. The coaches are asking him to Read more than React.... something the Speedy Krieg is having a hard time adjusting to.
- Cary Uno has officially secured an endorsement deal from Chicago based Pizzeria Uno.
- Tight End Archie Lake continues to worry about his role in the offense. After a promising start to his career after switching from FB to TE, he cooled off considerably last season. He seemed very introspective and.. even though the F-Birds did not bring in any top flight competition... seems worried about his job.
- Rookie Josh Tiller arrived early to camp. In one of the more intriguing stories, this College FS is attempting to make the team as a Cornerback... the opposite of the normal College CB to IFL Safety switch.
- Fellow rookie, Linebacker Ron Daileader, comes into this camp with a chip on his shoulder. "Man... You're looking at a top 10 talent right here. 29th? Are you kidding me? Look at this prime beef. There are gonna be 28 other teams that are gonna be REAL sorry about passing THIS up". He then proceeded to struggle in his weight room session...
- Quote of the day: Head coach Brent Bingham on Quarterback Gene Hamilton: "Fuck Him. Oh... is the camera on? It is? Good. Fuck Him."
