  • TOP 5 Plus

I have decided to start a new segment. I am stealing this from another league. I will post who I feel are the top 5 teams and the one team I think is the worst.
So, lets start it off in week 9.

    #1 7-1

Madison can run and they can pass. They are the #1 scoring team in the league. The team is led by QB will Irby, who is having a career year, and RB Charles Bell, who is averaging over 5 yards a carry. Madison looks like the team to beat. Next week they are on the road to play 7-1 Pittsburgh.

    #2 7-1

Texas can pass the ball. And they do so at will. WR Grady Gomez was franchised this season and we see why. "Money" has 52 catches for 991 yards and 8 TDs at the halfway point. QB Clayton Chung is having another outstanding season throwing the ball. The defending champs are having another great season. Next week they travel to play arch rival Little Rock.

    #3 7-1

Pennsylvania got a new name, logo and colors. This seems to have inspired the Lions. Led by QB Alvin Mann, this squad is keeping pace with the Demons in an outstanding NC North battle. They are tied with Madison for the top of the division and best record in the IFL (along with Texas). Next week is a battle with #1 Madison at home. The Lions only loss came on the road at Madison the 1st game of the season.

    #4 7-2

Tulsas youth movement is starting to pay dividends. The team has an above average core of skill players and an improving defense. They are battling Texas in the NC South. One of their 2 losses came on a controversial offsides call at Texas. Next week is their bye week.

    #5 6-2

Newark slides in just ahead of California. "King" Burger has led this team to the top of the NC East. Newark has played one of the tougher schedules in the league. That has resulted in a win over Texas, but they have lost to Madison and Pennsylvania. Next week they go on the road to play a struggling Dakota team.

    Worst of the League

Reno gets this honor. They have one win over a down Little Rock team. Otherwise, it hasn't been a pretty season for the Wolfpack. Next week they travel to division rival Vancouver. I don't think win #2 is in the forecast.

NC is rockin' this year no doubt.

Newark should be proud. That schedule is brutal so far. Opponents record is 44-20. Good job so far Matt.

      Good write up Tarcone!

        Great work Tarcone.

This is a great idea. It's been a while since we had a power ranking system of sorts. Last one was when TB did his with the other IB winners. They are hard to do and keep up.

Newark should be proud. That schedule is brutal so far. Opponents record is 44-20. Good job so far Matt
you pasted me in our game. We are just lucky and somehow find a way to win. I think the teams above me are much more deserving than I. As I said before, it's better to be lucky than good.....and we've been lucky

What an exciting week in the IFL. It produces a little change in the ratings. So without further ado, week 10 rankings.

          #1 8-1

The Lions hosted the previous #1 Madison Demons. The Lions jumped out 21-0 and went on to win 35-28, is easily the most anticipated game this season. Penn had a very balanced attack and managed to not let 4 interceptions by Alvin Mann disrupt what they came to do. Welcome to the top, as the Lions jump up to #1. Next week Pennsylvania travels to Lansing. Not an easy task. But the Lions prevail, 21-17.

          #2 7-2

The Demons would not quit against the Lions. But they came up a TD short. OLB Brian Fulcher tried to derail the Lion offense by himself. Fulcher had 8 tackles and 3 interceptions. It wasnt enough as the offense was average. Still this is one of the best in the league. The Demons host Dakota next week. Madison has its way, 35-10.

          #3 8-1

Texas continues with their winning ways. Texas went into the "Wart" and hung on to a 34-26 victory. Chung threw for 395 yards and 3 TDs. Money Gomez had 9 catches for 156 yards. Not to be out done by another great game for Gomez, Andre Watt had 7 receptions for 173 and 2 TDs. Texas' defense set up shop in LRs back field. They had 15 hurries, 2 sacks and 1 block. The pass defense had 8 defensed passes and 2 interceptions. Texas travels to Georgia. Never an easy task, but Georgia is under new management. Texas wins, 38-14.

          #4 7-2

Newark is too much for Dakota and the Bulldogs win 33-20. Dwight "King" Burger was too much for the Spirit, 23-30 for 321 yards and 4 TDs, for a lofty 150.1 rating. The Bulldogs lead the division by 2 games now. Next week, Vermont pays a visit. Bulldogs have no problems and win 36-7.

          #5 7-2

Tulsa has a bye week. The team looks rested and pretty healthy for the stretch run. Next week, the T-Hawks visit the Wart and arch rival Little Rock. Tulsa wins 42-37.

          Worst of the League

Reno continues to lose. Bad teams find silly ways to lose. Reno comes back from 14 down in the 4th quarter and tie the game with 1:10 left. It goes to overtime. They get a 3 and out and promptly fumble on the 2nd play. The Killer Whales take advantage and score the winning TD, 4 plays later. Reno has their bye week, finally.

great work again Tarcone. I still think that Tulsa should be ranked ahead of us. They are a better team than us.
NC East is too tight of a division for us to win by that count. The game will be within 10pts.

No offense to the AC South but so far your division has played itself and the AC South - and no team in the AC West has gone worse than 3-1 against them.

Let's see how this whole win/loss thing looks as the season goes on.

Looks like we have a TOP 5 curse. The #1 team loses for the 2nd week in a row. But it was a crazy week for the top 5. The Lions lose, Newark is blown out at home, Texas and Tulsa struggle with division rivals. Only Madison has an easy time. So on to this weeks TOP 5 Plus.

                      #1 8-2

Madison beats up on Dakota as expected. QB Will Irby leads Madison to victory with an outstanding performance. Irby completed 22 of 33 passes for 325 yards and 4 TDs for a lofty 138.2 QB ranking. RB Charles Bell pitched in a workman like 98 yards on 25 carries. WR Rufus Emerson was Irby's favorite target, catching 7 balls for 135 yards and 1 TD. The defense shut down Dakota, who tried a smash mouth approach with 45 rushes and only 3 passes. Madison faces Iowa City in Iowa City. The Temperature is forecasted to be 37 degrees with lots of wet weather. Madison struggles but wins 17-10.

                      #2 9-1

Texas always struggles with Georgia and the trend continued last week. Texas did prevail 24-17. Chung was the star. But thats not saying much as Georgia slowed down the Trojan express, limiting them to 327 yards. Texas faces a a solid West Virginia side. At home, Texas dominates 37-14.

                      #3 8-2

Tulsa has a 5-16 record against Little Rock. The 5th win came last week, 29-28. A late drive engineered by Matt Sanford, capped off ny a 17 yard scamper by DH Singleton won the game for Tulsa. Next week Tulsa travels to Hartford. Tulsa should win, 35-21.

                      #4 8-2

The Lions were dominated by Lansing 23-10. The Ogres dominated Pennsylvania on the ground gaining 167 yards on 32 carries. The Lions travel to Cleveland and suffer their 2nd defeat in a row, 28-27.

                      #5 7-3

A trio of AC teams joins the the TOP 5. Cleveland, Norfolk and Portland take care of Division foes and jump into the 5th spot. Each team face tough tests against good NC competition. This is a short stay in the TOP 5 Plus for 2 of the 3 teams. Cleveland is the only winner as the other 2 AC representatives drop out by losing in terrible fashion.

                      Worst of the League

Reno continues its stay at the bottom. But Hartford and Houston are banging on the door to overake them for this title. Reno travels to Louisiana and takes on the Voodoo is horrible weather. Renos performance matches the weather as the lose their 10th game in their drive for the #1 pick.

Good to be back on top but i don't think were the best team personally. Our defense is shit but i guess just about every other team in the league is too with this game.

If we can win against Iowa City this week we will have run the gauntlet and beat every team in the IFL.

I really hope my trade with Reno works out. It was one of the toughest I've ever had to make. I was really eying Tulsa's Chris Andrews in the draft to pair with Arnold Greene and we all see what Mr. Andrews is doing. Even if I get the #1 pick I might end up with a lesser player in the end.
