  • Mock Drafting from the Roach Motel

So I was sitting in this dump of a motel that only cost me $10 to spend a night with a couple dozen roaches and various furry critters in the rodent family. I didn't want to sleep, so I called up some fans I have met around the country, got their input, and came up with a mock draft. I did not predict any trades, simply because that is impossible to me.

    Gracias and adios,

    Pinky Del Nacho

    1. Cleveland - QB, Corey Perkins, Rhode Island This pick is pretty well known with contract negotiations already going on between the team and player. Cleveland has been very vocal that this is the guy they wanted and that is why they moved up to the #1 spot. I think after one pick Ithis mock draft is a lock to be 100% correct.

    2. Oakland - CB, Nicky Doyle, TCU With two picks in the top four, Oakland has to be going after whom many consider the top play in the draft. Oakland only has four cornerbacks on their roster right now, and no star at the position. An athletic, playmaking pass defender is a perfect fit for this team.

    3. Los Angeles - CB, Wade Boyd, Virginia Tech Boyd jumps into the top five because I think L.A. really wanted Doyle who is now off the board. The Liberty really want to go defense I think and cornerback is a huge need. They look almost like Oakland at the position. I wouldn't be surprised to see an offensive tackle go here though.

    4. Oakland - DE, Barry Mendenhall, Vanderbilt With several holes still to fill, Oakland loves their second top five pick. They have a choice of DE, T, or OLB and can't really go wrong. I think the DE is their choice since a talent like Mendenhall may not come their way again for years.

    5. Vancouver - DT, Shane Donaldson, Tulsa It is probably tackle on one side of the ball or the other for the Killer Whales. With a couple young guys at right offensive tackle and a veteran at left, the bigger hole seems to be at defensive tackle. Donaldson would fit that team nicely from day one.

    6. Orlando - OT, Kyle Ellis, Virginia The Pirates need an offensive tackle and couldn't be happier that they all fell to them. They get their pick of the top guys and will have to debate internally who they think fits their team the best. Ellis seems the most ready to go at the pro level and I say they take him.

    7. Hartford - FS, Everett Rose, Auburn For the Grizzlies safety is a good way to go. Rose is a hell of a talent and with only two safeties on the roster they could probably use a couple more sometime before the season starts.

    8. Boston - G, Kim Purkayastha, Washington I know it is not a sexy pick like I would be Dragon fans, but you are solid enough on defense that with the top guys gone the team really needs to address their offensive line problems. We will call this guy Purky, and we will call him just what you need in Boston.

    9. Houston - LB, Michael Cibella, Grambling From my rumor mill I heard Houston was really hoping CB Boyd would fall to them here, but fat chance. Lucky for them the top LB is still on the board for them and he just happens to be someone with enough experience and size to move to WILB. Just what they could use.

    10. Pittsburgh - OLB Ike Cook, UCLA I look at Pittsburgh's linebacker group and think old and average. Pretty solid everywhere else, so LB seems like the way to go for me. So did trying to bring pot across the border though, but Cook should be a better choice then that.

    11. Georgia - OT, Jay Alcott, Clemson The General's, uh, field General Deron Markel could use some help. Any kind of help. At first I thought RB, but a running game is nothing without an offensive line. Alcott still being on the board means the Generals improve both the running and passing down the line.

    12. California - OT, Bart Nicol, Oregon After the Heroes finishing punching through a wall of steel because they almost had Alcott, they notice Nicol wouldn't be too bad at all considering they have one offensive tackle. Nicol will help them.

    13. Montreal - WR, Otis Daniels, Mississippi For a team that has an offensive line built for pass protection, and two QBs capable with a supporting cast, WR is a spot where they need a playmaker. Otis is a great talent, and his route running skills won't hold him back at all.

    14. Vermont - DT, Julio Durham, Mississippi State For the Mountaineers I think this pick is more about the future then the present. If they had not selected DE Reeg in the first round last year I think they would have gone that way. That leaves them trageting WR or DT in my opinion, with several players grading out the same. Julio's run stopping gets him the nod.

    15. Madison - ILB, Vernon Galloway, Boise State Madison needs an all-around solid MLB and Galloway fits that mold well with no major weakness and a top notch athlete.

    16. Tulsa - FS, Earnest Porter, Florida State I may be going out on a limb here, since Tulsa has the great Lenny Kenny and his below average skills franchise tagged, but I think Porter could be the way they go here as a standout playmaker from one of the safety spots for years.

    17. Texas - DE, Roman Troutman, Michigan To get another end to play opposite Earl Randle would be a huge positive for this team trying to repeat it's trip to the playoffs last year. Troutman would be a dream come true at this spot.

    18. West Virginia - LB, Fred Owens, South Carolina This team is ready to make a move into playoff contention, and depth is their biggest need from my point of view standing on the side of the road outside the stadium. They have few LBs, and Owens is a solid player who could be moved to any position they want.

    19. Iowa City - DE, Junior Bundren, Southern Mississippi I almost made all Snipe Hunter fans choke on their lunch by saying they try another high pick on a WR, but a top level DE at this spot is too much to pass up when you could use one.

    20. Louisiana - WR, Tim Rhinehart, Buffalo A tall WR with some speed and technical skills would really help out the offense of the VooDoo. With Buckner in a RB the offense could use some help in the passing game.

    21. Murfreesboro - OT, Damon Anderson, Ball State A team full of talent makes it hard to know which way they go. They don't have a rock solid LT though and maybe a raw, talented player like Anderson is the way to go for future success of the offense.

    22. Dakota - TE Graham Willard, Wake Forest Dakota has some other needs but a chance to grab the top TE in the draft shouldn't be overlooked. He can help in the passing an running game being an all-around TE that Dakota wants and needs.

    23. Madison - CB, Donald Newhart, Kansas Only three CBs on the roster tell me some young guys to sit and learn is something the Demons would like to walk out of this draft with. Newhart would be just that, and also contend for the nickel and dime spots.

    24. Salt Lake City - RB, Bryant Turner, Brigham Young With my dream boat James Tart gone, the Stallions need to go running back and I see that according to my list the top RB in the draft has fallen to them. He probably won't be Tart, but he is a lot better then what they have even at his below average size.

    25. Little Rock - G, Darryl McKenzie, Purdue With Dixon old and leathery looking the Toads just cried when Turner went to SLC, a future G though makes them happier as Sheffield is an old hombre as well.

    26. Newark - FB, Tyrell Smith, Valdosta State Newark really sent me for a loop, but since I now know they don't need a punter I figured taking one of the best FB prospects in the last 10 years could be nothing but a positive, and fills a small need.

    27. Reno - G, Omar Roden, Missouri The Wolfpack need both a guard and tackle and Roden seems to be the best of the remianing players by the time Reno is picking. They should end up pretty happy with him.

    28. Wichita - WR, Louie Reynolds, LSU Wichita wants a young WR to upgrade the position. When it comes down to Reynolds and Earnest Goldberg, the taller Goldberg loses out because Reynolds is more ready to contribute.

    29. Montreal - S, Ricardo Fredrickson, Georgia With six safeties on the roster all in one year contracts, a young solid guy for now and the future would do a lot for this team's defense.

    30. Lawrence - LB, Chuck Spencer, Washington Needing to add some depth on defense, the Phantoms may not be confident in finding a first year starter but down the road the champs will have a guy who can step when needed.

    31. Norfolk - RB, Tracy Norris, Syracuse Lozier is still around and from my sources is asking for a RB to help take the pressure off of him like Brown used to do back in the day.

    32. Lawrence - S, Joel Quinteros, Oregon The Phantoms continue adding quality depth and possible down the road starters with a safety that could be a steal when he gets his feet wet in the IFL.

Its amazing how much the league has changed in one year. It would not be out of the realm of possibility for the top RB to not be taken until the bottom 3rd... strange world.

I don't think that RB is first worthy of a first 15 pick, so it wouldn't surprise me if he falls that fall. If Osborne was in this draft someone would jump on him earlier for sure I think.

Interesting thing to watch for though, to see where the RBs go.

Lots of offensive tackles in this draft for the first round too.
My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I choose not to show it so your feelings do not get hurt.

Who else sees Kyle Ellis' stock falling?

And...Dakota will not take a TE in the first round.

But overall, nice work. These things always take a bit of work...kudos!

And I see a couple of teams have traded first round picks just to mess up my Mock Draft. I take full credit for that trade, as Montreal saw they would have to move up to get their guy.
