  • Dakota makes Midnight Deal.

GM, Argot, took the podium late into the night to announce that recently aquired Devon Taylor will not take the field as a Spirit tomorrow.

"We aquired, Taylor, prior to the draft, unsure if we would be able to aquire a QB of the future in the first round of the draft. Since Barker is here now, we didn't see the need to hang onto Taylor and did not feel that his presence on the field in preseason made a huge impact. Furthermore, with California willing to give more than we paid to Tulsa, we felt that it was time to make a difficult decision while Taylor's value was still high.

I know the fans here in Fargo are disappointed. Some have even bought Taylor jerseys in expectation of a great season. We tend to still think the brightest days in Dakota are ahead of us, and still expect to battle for a post-season appearance. The team has a lot of confidence in Lara and Barker. Taylor never really gelled in in the locker room."

Spirit management stated that it will be a game time decision as to who will start at QB on Sunday against Madison. The Spirit received 3 draft picks in the following 3 seasons for Taylor.

Flashbulbs were everywhere as Argot took the podium this afternoon.

"As you can see, Devon Taylor, took the field as a member of the Spirit team. It appears that we made a mistake in the trade, and was considered void by the commissioner."

"Coach, Sammie Zellers, had distanced himself from this decision this past week, convinced that I was making a rash decision on Taylor. It appears now that he was correct. I apologize for any hardship our announcement last night caused Devon Taylor and his family and take full responsibility for this blunder. Taylor has convinced us today that he belongs in midnight blue and copper and will start next week against Portland."

Devon Taylor was 23 for 27 for 195 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. His rating is 93.7 and led the Spirit to their first opening day win since 2007. Incidently in 2007, the Spirit beat Portland to go 2-0.
