        Pre-Season Week 2

        Boston Dragons 13
        @Lansing Ogres 30

It is the preseason so I could care less about the score. We sat a bunch of our defensive starters in order for the younger players to get some action. The key guys we are watching are Neil Weems and Deron Tierney.

Tierney had a solid game managing to get 4 tackles and a sack in 33 plays.
Weems managed only an assist in 21 plays.

Raymond Webb returned to the field and had 2 tackles a 1 QB hurry. We need him to be more dominant once the whistle blows in the regular season.

On the offensive side of the ball, Fogarty looked decent going 5 for 9 for 49 yards. Dana Mason is slated to see a lot of action this preseason. He was 13/21 for 109 yards with 2 TD's and 1 INT.

The rushing attack was in full force as we averaged 4.7 YPC. Moriarty led the way with 11 carries for 64 yards.

Now a bit on the rookies:
        - Sanford strained his quad and is probably for the next few weeks. He was 0/3 on his blocking assignments.
        - J.T. Rydzak had 2 tackles and 4 assists in 38 plays. If he is going to be a MLB he will need to make more plays than that.
        - Whiting was targeted 3 times, but he dropped 1 and the other two were incomplete.
        - Summers was 1/5 on his blocking assignments.
        - McCormick had a good game at FS. He totaled 4 tackles on the afternoon as he tries to beat out Leslie Harris for the backup role behind Surdyk.
        - Casey Crawford probably had the best game out of any of the rookies with 2 receptions for 19 yards.

          Pre-Season Week 3

          Vancouver Killer Whales 20
          @Boston Dragons 13

Throw this game out of the books. At the last minute our coaching staff became very ill with the flu and somehow misread the depth chart. So a bunch of guys that we wanted to see off the field were on it and vice versa.

J.B. Fogarty was HORRENDOUS in his first appearance after signing a 3 year extension. He was 1/6 for 13 yards and 3 INT's. And no this was not Norfolk so I'm not sure what happened. Definitely no magic today.

Dana Mason on the other hand looked good again. He was 13/24 for 130 yards at a TD.

Tierney had 3 more tackles in only 20 plays while Weems was somehow left on the bench.

2nd year SS, Prexton Paxson, played very well. His 7 tackles led the Dragons on the afternoon.

Raymond Webb improved on his outing from last week against Lansing. He tallied one sack and added 3 tackles. The coaching staff is thrilled to see the effort Webb has been giving this offseason.

TE Casey Crawford was once again the best rookie on the field for us. He caught 3 balls for 27 yards including a TD. He is making a strong push to be the #2 guy behind Brownell.

            Pre-Season Week 4

            Madison Demon 28
            @Boston Dragons 10

Another poor performance today by Fogarty has the coaching staff a little worried heading into the regular season. Against Madison, he was 3/10 for 32 yards and an INT.

Dana Mason looked good again going 10/18 for 105 yards. On the ground, Moriarty gained 36 yds. on 10 carries.

Rookie Preston Whiting caught his first pass which was good for 8 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Preston Paxson played well totaling 7 tackles as he got majority of the snaps at SS.

ILB J.T. Rydzak got his nose near the ball a lot more this game. He had 4 tackles and also forced a fumble. Good news for the possible future starter in Boston.

And the WLB battle rages on. Tierney had 2 tackles and an assist during 33 plays. Weems had 2 tackles during 22 plays.

            Rookies:
            - Karl Sanford was limited due to his injury. He was on the field for 28 plays and went 1/1 on his blocking assignments.
            - Rick Summers was on the field for 25 plays and was 2/2 with his blocks.
            - Trevor McCormick had 2 tackles backing up Surdyk.
            - Bill Datillo averaged 38.6 yards on his punts and had 3 inside the 20.

              Pre-Season Week 5

              Boston Dragons 10
              @Salt Lake City Stallions 37

I'm not sure if Vito realized this was a preseason game. Salt Lake was throwing the ball deep against our backup secondary and they were blitzing our backup O-Line an awful lot.

Fogarty showed some signs of life. He was 6/9 for 67 yards which was a vast improvement over his past two outings.

Dana Mason added another 163 yards to his preseason total. Most of those passes went into the direction of Daryl Magallanes who had 7 receptions for 126 yards. Rookies Casey Crawford and Preston Whiting each had one reception.

Tony Moriarty gained 52 yards on 9 carries. Now he will go back to sharing time with Tory Wigfall.

J.T. Rydzak had his best game of the preseason with 7 tackles.

Tierney and Weems both got shut out, but it was probably due to the fact we had to play a lot of nickel with Salt Lake slinging the ball all over the place.

We did get some bad news coming out of this game. Starting RT Thanh Arrowood went down with an injury and will miss week 1 against Hartford. That means 1st Rd. pick Karl Sanford will likely get the start.

                Week 1 @Hartford (0-0)
                Record: 0-0, AC East

The 2009 season is underway and we get a chance to play rival Hartford. Well, there's really no rivalry yet since the Grizzlies seemingly own us except for when we knocked them out of playoff contention in week 15 last season.

Unfortunately our defensive line was DOMINATED!!! The gaps that their running backs were running through could be considered highways in some parts of the country. 203 yards later we looked up at the scoreboard and we were 0-1 on the season.

                FINAL SCORE
                Boston 10
                Hartford 23

                Key News From the Game:
We are now 3-9 against Hartford.
Rushing Defense: We allowed 5.2 YPC which is concerning since our front 7 on defense is a considerable strength for us.
Pass Protection: Fogarty was sacked and hurried 4 times.

                Big Performances:
                J.B. Fogarty: 16/30 for 202 yds, 1 TD
David Higdon: 4 KRB as he played well against his former team

                Injury Report:
                No serious injuries

                  Week 2 vs. Tulsa (1-0)
Record: 0-1, 3rd in AC East

Going into our home opener we were a little worried. We just got ran all over by Hartford and now we had to face Tim Austin. Would Tulsa try to run on us as well to see if we were really struggling or would they go in the air.

D-Coordinator Rich Ryan's guess was wrong. Devon Taylor and Bryce Groth torched us in the air while Tim Austin was held in check.. It was ugly quick as Groth had over 100 yds. by the end of the 1st quarter.

                  FINAL SCORE
                  Tulsa 41
                  Boston 10

                  Key News From the Game:
Passing Defense: We allowed Groth to compile 200 yds receivng on the day.
Rushing Offense: We only were able to muster a whopping 2.8 YPC.
Pass Protection: Fogarty was sacked 5 times and hurried 2 times. We need to get him more time to throw the ball.

                  Big Performances:
                  J.B. Fogarty: 19/32 for 241 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Matthew Stanley: 5 tackles and 2 sacks.

                  Injury Report:
                  Jonathan St. Louis (pulled groin)
                  Preston Whiting (deep thigh bruise)

                    Week 3 vs. Portland (2-0)
Record: 0-2, 3rd in AC East

In game one, we got killed by the run. In game two, we got killed in the air. Facing a Portland team with Jay Caro at QB it was pretty safe to assume we would have to stop the pass.

Through the first half we were able to do that. We held the Seals to a pair of FG's. However, we could not capitalize as we only managed to FGA's missing both. We also had to start 5 of our first half possessions at or inside our own 20.

In the second half, Caro to Ameche was the gameplan and it worked for the Seals. The back breaker was a 42 yd. score after we had cut their lead to 13-7.

So now we sit at 0-3 and have a big hill to climb especially since we are trying to make the playoffs in the AC.

                    FINAL SCORE
                    Portland 28
                    Boston 14

                    Key News From the Game:
Passing Defense: We allowed Ameche to compile 170 yds receivng on the day.
Rushing Offense: We only were able to muster a whopping 2.8 YPC.
Pass Protection: Fogarty was sacked 5 times and hurried 6 times. This is getting ridiculous especially after spending money this offseason to upgrade this part of the team.

                    Big Performances:
Josh Sullivan: 6 REC, 72 yds.
Brian Christie: 4 REC, 75 yds.
Fritz Gaddis: 4 TKL, 1.5 sacks

                    Injury Report:
                    Casey Boehm (torn knee cartilage)
