    That's the spirit r00k....

It's funny, nobody calls it soccer over here. If a guy calls it soccer he'll get a suspicious look, almost like he's a cross dresser or something!

The whole country pretty much grinds to a halt when the lads are playing.
I'm watching tomorrow's game with some mates in the pub and catching a curry afterwards, hopefully a win will make it a perfect evening.

Cross dressers have the bigger following over here.

Being a 25 year "football" fan while also considering myself a logical person (almost making me anti-American in today's US) it seems pretty clear which one of the sports should be called "football" and it ain't the one where only 2 players on the roster (punter/kicker) actually touch the ball with their foot! Why can't we just call our game "tackle the juicer"... or "gate-ball" since we have a scandal suffixed with "gate" every couple seasons?

MLS is just horrid to watch. It's like watching the old World League. If you watch any of the premiere league it will just spoil the MLS. By the way...nice 1-1 draw, but the goal keepers were the real story. Should have been 3-0 England but I'll take it.

By World league I mean the American Football in Europe....e.g. Frankfurt Galaxy.

U-S-A! U-S-A! That tie was a victory for the good guys. England fans have to be running for cover. No way the USA should have been able to do that.

Im not real into soccer, either. I think there is an us against them mentality. You know, "I'll take OUR football over the worlds football."

I always like to imagine what-ifs. Like what if a bunch of really fast NFL WRs played soccer instead of football. And we had LeBron James in goal. Who beats us?

Tarc, that was a 'draw' not a 'tie'.

A typically nervy first world cup match by the English side.
An horrendous unforced error by our reserve goalie allowed the US to steal a point but overall the English team played poorly.
It can only get better...our team keeps shooting itself in the foot so to speak.

It's a point of interest that the game hasn't really taken hold in the States, but without trying to be rude in any way, the rest of the world loves footy and the World Cup is absolutely huge with or without you guys.
Perhaps only the Olympics is as big on the world stage.

Having said that, I'd be made over the moon if the NFL expanded internationally. I hope and pray for an NFL franchise over here.
I think it's gonna come one day.

I think one reason the USA doesn't like soccer is because soccer players are wussies. They get lightly touched and they are down crying. Give me a guy who plays thru pain everyday.

Tarc...you watch the NBA?....oooh...I broke my pinky...I'm sitting down for the next 3 weeks.

And don't confuse the English game with South American flops.

I'm trying my best not to defend soccer, as I have completely lost interest in the sport . However, while what you're saying is true for some "top" European leagues, primarily Italy and Spain, it is definately not the case in Germany or England.

England in particular is known for their pretty tough play, and players in that league don't just fall over.

Check this guy out for example, Terry Butcher:

What's a slight gash when you can bandage it . Guy got a cut in the head early in a game against Sweden, sowed it up, bandaged it, and kept playing.. mind you, this guy was a central defender who do a lot of heading the ball.. which he kept doing.. which in turn opened up the cut again..

I think it's okay for the rest of the world to be running amok over soccer, while the states aren't. Personally for me, it's a profoundly boring sport to watch, even worse than golf or professional bowling. I don't understand why there seems to be this huge push to bring the U.S. into the fervor....if it hasn't caught on over here by now, it will never catch on.

Indiana University has one of the best collegiate soccer programs in the NCAA, but if you ask how many Collegiate Championships IU has, the immediate response is to count how many basketball banners are flying in Assembly Hall. Most IU fans wouldn't know that IU has 7 NCAA soccer championships.

It's not big, and I doubt it ever will get big. Maybe on the East Coast or the West Coast, since they like to think they're very European and avant garde, but I can't see Soccer ever getting big in the rest of the U.S.

And that's okay. Let the world go nuts, have their fun. I'm not a big fan of the One World Government. LOL.
