some sort of March Madness fundraiser deal-o

I have no idea if this is a good game, but it is not an expensive game at half off. Probably will give serious consideration to a purchase over the weekend.

bundle with DDS- Pro BB for $45 again I have no idea if these are good games, but the price is right

I would love to support Wolverine, because Gary (despite what Jeff thinks) has done a good job with his games. However, I simply CANNOT become interested in a basketball sim. Give me football or hockey, and to a certain extent baseball.. but basketball.. nope..

The general consensus on the Wolverine Boards seems to be pretty positive, though obviously those are fans of the games. I've yet to see outright negative posts about it elsewhere (FOFC for example) and Gary does have a good reputation about listening to his users.

From what I've seen, all Wolverine games are well adapted for online multiplayer leagues.

went ahead and dropped the $20

looks too be customizable to a large extent. Can start in any year, rename and relable the conferences/teams ect. Looks to be locked intosame date structure every season. Like all college games, and the only one I have is TCY, recruiting is where the games are won and lost. And recruiting is why I never got into TCY very much. Lots of work ect...

Anyways quick overview looks good for $20

Probably a lovely game to play.. until you notice that you're recruiting the same guys you did 30 years ago.

Basketball is for sissys... you get a foul for a little slap on the wrist? I'd love to see a huge open-court hit on a basketball player.. he'd be shitting his oversized shorts!

                    I'll bite...

Despite the crazy baseball quote of "hardest thing to do in sports is hitting a round ball with a round bat... blah blah blah" I maintain that the hardest thing to do in sports is simply dunk a basketball on a regulation hoop.

Over time any human will eventually be able to hit even the best pitcher's pitch at least once. Most people will go their whole lives not even coming close to dunking.

Now hockey. Here's a "sport" created for the kids who can't quite fight so they can't do boxing or MMA and they aren't athletic enough to play any of the other sports so wealthy parents buy them equipment that most can't afford and send them out on the ice to stand with the other non-athletes with athletic dreams.

Seriously, I've watched many hours of hockey and haven't been able to label one player as any better than the rest. "They've been playing for an hour and it's 1-0. I guess they all suck unless you count the guy who scored when someone else's shot hit off the back of his stick when he wasn't looking".

My main beef with basketball is that it is just the same over and over and the frequent scoring. Guys run up to eachothers baskets, stand around while passing the ball and the poof, they either hit or miss, then they all run up to the other end and stand around there for a while repeating the same thing.

Hockey has action across the entire playing surface, including the neutral zone. Everyone seems to be complaining about fighting, but it's such a minor part of the sport.

For a player who is "better than the others", check this clip.. especially at around 1:05 and then at 3:55. Those two goals are special.

People have reported that they've ran into situations where they notice certain recruiting classes duplicate. It's happened in this latest version and it happened in the first version which was released 3 years ago. Gary has never been able to figure out how it happens. Seems pretty daft to me. I couldn't bring myself to play a game when there's a chance of that happening.

Hockey used to be about athleticism. Now it's about the team system, in my opinion. Individual athleticism isn't as showcased as it used to be. If anything, "hockey sense," if there is such a thing , is more important than athleticism now.

Lemieux was probably the most gifted hockey player ever, he just couldn't stay healthy. Even when he came out of retirement in 2000, he wasn't the same player. That's what most people remember. When he was younger, as a goal scorer, he played the game like Washington's Ovechkin, but had the vision of Wayne Gretzky. He was just bigger, faster and stronger than everyone else. And you know how these sports casters say some players just see the game differently than everyone else, well that's Lemieux in a nut shell.

Injuries to his back, cancer and age slowed him down significantly by 2000. Even in the mid 90s, prior to his retirement, he was slowing down.

Here's a tribute I found on You-Tube. Not the greatest quality, but about 5:25 into it he scores one of his greatest goals in the Stanley Cup finals against the Minnesota North stars when the Penguins won their first championship. Thing is, he scored those kind of goals all the time prior to 1993, when he got cancer. He was still better than everyone else for the next few years, even when he returned in 2000, but he was never like he was in the 80s and early 90s. I remember him putting up 6, 7 and even 8 point games against some teams, all the time.

Enough of the Lemieux love fest. Was just watching the Pens/Fliers game on NBC had felt like reminiscing.
