1986, ALCS Game 2, Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles
Sanderson gets the call today against Mike Flanagan, he of the 21-4 record and probably AL Cy Young.

Sanderson loads the bases in the first but gets out of it.

With Coleman on 2nd and 2 outs, Winfield, Firova and Ripken each rip off doubles to give us a 3-0 lead after 4. Wooohooo.

Dave Smith has control issues and walks in a run in the bottom of the 6th, Coleman then singles in 2 more to give us a 6-0 lead after 6 innings.

Mike Morgan sets em down in the 8th after Sanderson goes 7 strong.

Schiraldi closes em out in the 9th and we win it 6-0 and head to Baltimore with a 2-0 series lead.

Bruce Robbins throws today against Mark Lemongello in a very winnable game for us here.

Winfield hits a solo bomb in the top of the 2nd to give us a 1-0 lead.

Coleman singles in a run in the top of the 3rd to make it 2-0.

Strawberry bombs one out to make it 3-0 in the top of the 4th.

Presley commits a farkin throwing error in the bottom of the 5th to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out but Robbins gets out of it unscathed.

With 1st and 3rd and 2 out in the 6th, having thrown 110 pitches we replace Robbins with Morgan. He gets Rich Dauer to fly out to center and end the threat.

Ripken goes yard to lead off the 7th and make it 4-0.

Morgan sets em down in the 7th.

Schiraldi allows 2 baserunners in the 8th so we bring in Hernandez who gives up a single and then walks in a run, all with nobody out. Uh oh. He gets a weak pop to center and then induces a double play and we head to the 9th up 4-1.

Henke allows a run in the 9th but that's all as we close em out 4-2 and take a commanding 3 games to none lead.

Holy crap, Mike Moore was a friggin beast this year. But we beat up the AL Cy Young, lets do it to the NL Cy Young (probably) as well. Outside of Moore they don't have a starter i'd consider dominant but they do once again have a tremendous bullpen. Joe Carter had a terrific year with 50 homers and their top of the order is very good. Interesting note that after spending 18 years with the Reds, Johnny Bench signed with the Cubs this year. He's been an All-Star all 19 seasons he's played, holy shit. Only note for us is that Dave Edler is back and will start against righties.

It'll be Stieb vs Danny Jackson in this game 1 battle.

They plate one in the top of the 3rd.

Sandberg gets it back with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning. Ripken adds a 2 run single and we lead 3-1 after 3.

Stieb allows one in the 5th.

Stieb gets in trouble in the 6th but Willie Hernandez comes in and gets out of it to preserve to the 3-2 lead.

Hernandez & Morgan combine to set em down in the 7th.

Sandberg gets an RBI single and then Keith Hernandez jacks a 3 run bomb to blow it open in the bottom of the 7th.

Morgan throws the 8th, Musselman shuts em down in the 9th and we win game 1 7-2 and take a one game lead in the series.

Sanderson throws against the studly Moore today, it'd be nice to grab this one before heading to Chicago. Obviously.

Sanderson labors a tad in the first, helped none by a Presley throwing error but he only gives up 1 run.

A Hernandez RBI single in the bottom of the inning gets it right back.

Firova puts us ahead with an RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd.

We head to the 8th up 2-1 and bring Stoddard in to start the inning. He allows a 2 run homer to Joe Carter
Schiraldi comes in and gets out of the inning. Damnit. We trail 3-2 heading to the bottom of the 8th.

Butler led off with a single, was saced to 2nd and stole 3rd. Sandberg then knocked him in with a double.
Hernandez then blooped an RBI single to put us back ahead 4-3.

Henke comes on in the 9th and sets em down to secure a 4-3 win and give us a 2 game advantage heading to Chicago.

Bruce Robbins matches up against Chuck Finley today.

A 3 run HR from Johnny Bench in the bottom of the 3rd puts them up 3-0. They add another run and lead it 4-0 after 3.

Robbins gets into a bases loaded jam in the 4th so we bring in Comer and he gets out of it unscathed.

Dave Winfield slams a 3 run jack on to Waverly in the top of the 6th to cut their lead to 1.

Stoddard pitches a scoreless 7th.

Hernandez & Henke stink up the joint in the 8th allowing 2 runs.

Ron Romanick will throw game 5 against Vida Blue. This gives Sanderson maximum rest and gives us the option of using Stieb if needed in a game 7.

Ripken drives a 2 run shot over the right field fence to give us a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the 2nd.

The get the 2 runs right back in the bottom of the inning.

Sanberg blasts one into the center field bleachers to put us back up by 1 in the top of the 3rd.
Presley adds an RBI single and we lead 4-2 heading to the bottom of the 3rd.

Sandberg blasts another shot in the 4th, this one a 2 run shot over the left field wall to give us a 6-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 4th.

Jesus! Sandberg singles in 2 more runs in the top of the 9th to make it 8-2. We tack on another and lead 9-2.

Romanick completes his complete game gem to give us a 9-2 win and for the first time in 12 world series games between these 2 teams, the road team has won. We head back to Seattle up 3-2 and prepared to win our first world championship.

It's Sanderson against Moore again as we try and close this sucker out.

Welp, Sanderson gave up 3 first inning runs. This a hole bigger than most porn stars are used too.

Winfield gets one back in the bottom of the 2nd with a solo shot.

Sanderson lets up a leadoff single in the 7th, Hernandez comes in and loads the bases with 2 out but Morgan gets us out of it. It's still 3-1 heading to the bottom of the 7th.

Morgan gets us thru the 8th.

Stoddard loads the bases with 2 out in the 9th but Henke closes the door. Bottom of the 9th down 3-1.

Lee Smith sets us down in order and it's on to game 7 for a 2nd straight year.

The only good news is that Joe Carter broke his finger and will miss game 7, Frank White hyperextended his knee and he will also miss game 7. Sucks to face them depleted but we're without our best hitter so fuck em.

We load the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the first but Winfield and Firova strike out to end the inning.

They get a run and have 2 on with nobody out but Stieb pitches out of it and they lead 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 3rd.

Sandberg does it again, belting a solo shot to left to tie it up in the bottom of the 3rd.

Butler triples in Wiggins in the bottom of the 4th to give us a 2-1 lead. Woohoo!

We get 3 runs, 2 of them coming on a double by........Sandberg in the bottom of the 6th and take a 5-1 lead.

It's amazing we were able to do this without arguably our best hitter and it'd be nice if Greg Walker could stay healthy next year. Our farm system is a little thin on top right now but we have Mullholand coming along which is probably important because our starters are more of a collective than a single stud but we should be fine as we head on to 1987 with our eyes on a repeat, HOOOHAAA!

Financialy speaking we have about $600,000 in cash and will be increasing ticket prices next season. I feel like we've got enough fan loyalty that we can bump it up to bring in some additional cash flow. It'll be interesting.
