Good deal. I was starting to worry about ya, picturing you in your underwear eating fruit loops with a beard down to your belly. Just lock up all sharp objects for 3 months and dont let the woman drive, that should cover things.

Well, I havent been in my underwear, but I do have some nice pajama pants I would wear since the kid was around. And yeah, the beard is starting to grow again, I was shaving up until last week though.Originally posted by SuicaneGood deal. And I was eating bad and not working out except maybe once in the last week or two. I can try to get back to normal now. In theory anyways....My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I choose not to show it so your feelings do not get hurt.

Time flies. Been almost 5 months with this company. It has been ok I guess. Driving solo really has brought to light things about the driving industry that just drive me nuts, meaning the federal regulations we have to follow concerning time 'working.' I am in the middle of a long stretch out on the road (so I can get several days at home at the end for a family trip). Last Monday I had to sit all day in Ohio because I didn't have the hours to drive. It annoyed the hell out of me. Thankfully I had just finished the best week of driving I have eer done, so that made up for it some.
But I am not really 100% happy. Fairly far from it, been miserable at times actually. Getting home, and getting the home time I want is almost always a fight, especially while still trying to get decent miles.
So I am looking for a way out of the situation. I don't have a ton of options. Two options is to start taking courses so I can do something else, which would probably be real estate inspector or real estate appraiser. The big problem there is a pretty large drop in income for a while, which is not good. It also would not be regular money, which driving provides for the most part.
I am leaning towards option three. Option three is to lease/purchase a truck and becoming independent (kind of). Many companies will do this with their trucks, and it's a good way to get into becoming an owner/operator. From what I have found out my company has a pretty good program. The big plus is no balloon payment at the end. After the lease is up, the truck is mine. The trucks are used of course, but they aren't bad at all. 380,000 miles, which sounds like a lot to someone not in driving, but really not. A truck can be pretty solid up to 700,000 to 900,000 miles atleast. I would have to pay for fuel, and truck payment (along with a couple extra charges) would be about $500 a week.
So far I am thinking I could make atleast what I am making now, maybe more if I do things right. The big plus side is I have control over what I do and when I do it. I have the right to refuse loads, no questions asked. And I can control my hometime the way I would like. As long as I am getting the company their money they are happy.
Hope to move in this direction in a month or two. I would give them the down payment right now but I have to wait and see what we are going to be able to do for health insurance. My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I choose not to show it so your feelings do not get hurt.

Option 3 sounds great to me but is dependent a lot on the type of person that you are. And a month or two doesn't sound like enough time to make a decision this big (not sure how long you've thought about it already) - though this is entirely "do as I say and not as I do" as I base a lot of decisions off of how my chemicals are imbalanced at the time.
I can tell you that I've "started over" about once every two years in my life and I fail to see what "scares" people into not doing it. I think the simple fact that most people don't see is that if you're miserable now then there's nothing to lose as a change that makes you miserable is a "push" and anything else is "profit".

Well, it's a month or two to make the jump I hope. I say it's 60-40 I do it right now, maybe 50-50. I want to do it, but the health insurance thing is a big problem (once again). I hate health insurance. I have been thinking about it for 2-3 months now, and looking into it some. Plus, being in the industry for 9 years now I knew some things already anyways.
Right now the company has a lineup of trucks to lease though, so I would have a choice. I could even get one of two shorter term lease trucks (and $100 less a week) right now if I want to take a truck with a Mercedes-Benz engine (sounds good for a car, but not too good in the truck world). My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I would love to be home every day, but the cost is pretty damn high. It is still an option though.Originally posted by MattI'd do something where you're home.
